It is a strange sighting report.

Apparently he's the only person on the planet who would need to pull off the road to look at photographs to see what BL looks like. And, story states that he got sound clip of BL from Dog's sister? Couldn't just pull up a youtube? Yep, strange sighting alright.

Update.

Saw a new protesters in the street in front of Laudries' house vid.

Up to 5 now. <modsnip>

I thought the same thing, MOO. But also, you will note that they appear to have taken evidence from 2 locations. Petito’s death ruled a homicide, experts see Laundrie as abuser. The rock by the water is a different location (a bit down from where she was actually located MOO), which is why I had asked on a previous thread if anyone knew if he crossed the water with her. Only one rock, out of all of those rocks, is marked. They must have something there. Something found either on the rock or in the water near it? Don't know. Speculation and MOO IMO
The reporter at 19:50 in the following linked video seems to have seen the remains in the Chopper5 video (MOO) and she says "body parts" when discussing the FBI press conference. JMO, the orange chalk paint may have been markings near the remains.
Human remains discovered 'consistent' with description of Gabby Petito
But I do see where there is a hole or dent at each chalk marking. It seems a little odd that LE would spray chalk directly on potential evidence.

While the story sounds so odd to me, I think it's safer to say that a healthy person would not ask for directions to California from North Carolina.

I don't think anyone would. You'd need to navigate the mountains of Tennessee first, without worrying about a final destination some 8 states away.

Besides, BL would by now be a total hot-shot at travelling across the country, as he has done it several times!

Plus, I can't see him asking anyone for directions. It's beneath him.

I have the feeling the FBI already has BL, especially after the last visit to the Laundries.
Someone mentioned here that, evidence is usually held until the conclusion of a criminal case. In this FBI visit, one of the FBI agents entered the house carrying a "large" brown paper bag and left the house without it. I've been wondering since then what was inside that brown paper bag.
This could also explain the Laundries' silence and lack of emotion leaving and entering their house.
This is purely speculation on my part.

MOO JMO
RSBM. Has, as in he's in custody? And it hasn't been announced? MOO, not likely. Can't think of a scenario where they wouldn't announce he's in custody, or found deceased, etc. They wouldn't do that to GP's family, or the Laundries, IMO.

I don't know, sometimes these kinds of things happen when and where and to whom we would least expect.

Has anyone checked to see if Dog's sister has posted about it? Or if Dog is going there?

I understand this is only speculation on your part. BUT, could this be possible, the FBI already has BL in custody? Is the FBI obligated to say when/if they have a person in custody?
Good question.
IMO the media would be all over it but not about how to obtain that info

That's not how the FBI operates, I'm afraid. When they capture someone, the FBI makes sure the news media is present to show the subject doing the "perp walk" in handcuffs in front of cameras. This is their standard operating procedure. MOO

I agree with this. There comes a point where this needs to be shut down. IMO there has to be something on the books that LE can use and not give free rein to screaming until "10:00 p.m." At this point these poor neighbors are becoming collateral damage, and it's not fair to them. MOO
There wouldn't be any demonstrations if there were no hungry media. (Media friendly here, but they choose what goes on the news). I remember the jugglers and the noisy virtual carnival out in front of Terri Shiavo's HOSPICE.

He did claim in the New York Post piece that he absolutely informed LE:

Davis is frustrated three calls to the FBI and 911 calls in both North Carolina and Tennessee have not been returned by law enforcement.

Brian Laundrie may have been spotted on Appalachian Trail
Yes, it's certainly possible. As I said in my original post mentioning California NC, I don't know how likely it is.

But it's pretty likely the engineer from Florida has never heard of California NC. So he'd have assumed the man meant the state. And that may have led the engineer to decide that meant the lost man was especially "confused" when it's really the engineer who was. Having decided the man was confused and "wigged out" (quote from the engineer in NY Post article) may have made him look more like BL to him later on when he thought about it. I mean it's still odd to ask for back roads directions to a town 5+ hours away, but not nearly as odd as asking for directions to a state 2000+ miles away.

I doubt it was BL for the above reasons plus the visibility conditions were so bad.

JMO

I really don't usually get into the tiny nits of conversations in looking at true crime stuff - people speak so casually that minor oddities rarely mean much. And that goes doubly so of a reported (not recorded) conversation given by a person who finds himself suddenly answering press calls and giving interviews in a high-profile homicide/ fugitive situation.

That said, this guy says he said to "BL" that he could take I-40 to California, and that "BL" said (paraphrasing from memory except the bolded and beyond), "I'm just going to take this road into California."

"Into" is not how anyone refers to going to a state (exception - maybe occasionally, when referring to going to a neighboring state to do a specific activity, to distinguish from doing it in your state); we say "to" x state.

However, we quite often say "into" with respect to towns or cities.

This may be a regionalism (It certainly exists in Southern parlance. I had a bf once who thought it was amusing once when he called me at home and my (Southern) father said I'd "gone into town.". My parents used that phrasing all the time, despite our living in a medium-populated area of sprawl with many towns running one into another; the colloquialism was from my father's upbringing in a small town with one main shopping drag, aka, grocery store, bank, etc.)

Following on that line, the phrasing would make more sense, too, then, if "BL" were actually a local boy, with the Southern /rural phrasing.

But again, the conversation is retold by a person who seems kind of amped up (understandably) by the encounter, so I don't put much on it at all.

In other news, that engineer guy's pic looks like half the men suggested to me on dating apps. :confused:o_O

The crime scene photos really do not give you much of a good picture. I am struggling with them too. The one picture to the left of the rock, you can see behind the tree all those rocks and the stream, so that one fits in. But the others, I wish you an see the ground to get a good picture of what happened. I am still unsure of where they actually found her. The 2 stone crosses confuse me. Your guess about crossing the water can very well be the story! Maybe he tried to get her to a more secluded area? All of it is awful. I hope he is found this week!
A combination of reports from the Jackson Hole news makes it clear IMOO that she was found feet/yards away from the rock, and that the stone cross by the water was not where she was found, and is different from the stone cross laid by her step father. I'll link them all and then you'll be able to easily put this together.

BBM Do you mean alive or deceased?

Here's the link to the alleged Appalachian siting: Brian Laundrie may have been spotted on Appalachian Trail

Sounds credible, and sounds like Brian was in a very confused state. All alleged of course. However, the NY Post is a credible media source, and wouldn't have published this without checking the background of the source.

Go Dog!

Amateur opinion and speculation

In this BL sighting article:
BBM

There is no doubt in my mind I spoke to Brian Laundrienone whatsoever,” Davis, 53, said.

The man Davis sighted drove a white or light-colored pick up truck resembling a Ford F-150 and wore a dark bandana on his head.

Despite the road being dark, Davis said the headlights from both idle cars were sufficient to see the man at such close range.

I'm having a difficult time grasping how Mr. Davis can have no doubt whatsoever about who he spoke to yet at the same time... was not able to clearly identify the color of the vehicle belonging to this person.

Anyone else?

There is one witness who overheard her saying to BL "Why do you have to be so mean?" I don't recall which witness or what day it was.

Can you please provide a link for this because it's not what I've heard.

What she says is, “I was apologizing to him and saying, ‘I’m sorry that I’m so mean’".

At 2:50.

And yet, at the same time, there's usually an actual fever difference in how people speak and behave. I mean, nowhere but a sitcom is where you'd find a man hysterically crying and taking the blame and a woman fist-bumping about "crazy boyfriends, amirite?"

Frankly, if a man were acting like GP was, those cops would have been looking at the woman who was referring to her bf's "little blog" as some kind of cruel and dominating monster.
People interpret things differently, I guess. I would not say Gabby was hysterical. She was crying, sure. But able to speak coherently and was in control of herself. Nor did I see any fist bumping behavior on the part of the men. The crazy statement was in response to a question about whether she takes meds. Brian's response was "She just gets crazy. No." Everyone gets crazy on occasion and that's ok. He's trying to downplay the seriousness of the encounter. MOO

I thought she may have been about to say, before she stopped herself: when he’s having a mental health crisis. MOO.
Pretty likely.
But also possible ...
tired of her abuse.
breaking up with her.
needing his space.
running away from his problems.
homesick.
losing his control.
depressed.
out of money.
needing his mommy.

The list of potential sentence endings is as long as one imagination. No point in picking one and tying your flag to it.

What are the differences between National Parks and National Forests?

At first glance, our nation’s National Parks and National Forests may appear to be just about the same thing, with both as public lands. Under closer comparison though, each has their own unique history and priorities.

Hunting is illegal in most national parks except under special permits. Target practice also is banned. • For national security reasons, guns cannot be carried into federal facilities within national parks. Notice of this rule will be clearly displayed outside all federal facilities.
A Quick Guide to Gun Regulations in the Intermountai…

Hunting and target practice are banned in national parks. Guns may only be discharged in rare circumstances. Guns cannot be carried inside federal facilities, even when they are within national parks. This includes visitor centers, ranger stations, maintenance buildings, and fee collection stations.
Carrying in National Parks: The When, Where, and H…
It looks like it depends on whether the area is a national forest or a national park.

Target shooting is allowed on national forest or grassland unless restricted. Check your local ranger district for more information about local restriction. It is prohibited to shoot:
  • In or within 150 yards from a residence, building, campsite, developed recreation area or occupied area.
  • Across or on a national forest or grassland road or body of water.
  • In any manner or place where any person or property is exposed to injury or damage as a result of such discharge.
  • Into or within a cave.
  • Firing tracer bullets or incendiary ammunition.
  • Disturbing, injuring, destroying, or in any way damaging any prehistoric, historic, or archaeological resource, structure, site, artifact, property.
  • Abandoning any personal property or failing to dispose of all garbage, including targets, paper, cans, bottles, appliances.
In general, you should target shoot only if you:
  • Use approved targets. Certain forests may have specific restrictions, such as the type of targets used (i.e. cardboard targets, paper targets, clay pigeons).
    • Exploding targets are not recommended and are restricted on many forests or grasslands for safety and fire concerns.
  • Use approved targets along with a safe, ”bullet-proof” backstop. Do not to attach your targets to vegetation or structures, such as; trees, log decks, slash piles, fences, or water tanks.
  • Practice safe gun handling by:
    • Treating every gun as if it is loaded.
    • Never letting the muzzle of a firearm point at anything you do not intend to shoot.
    • Keeping your finger off of the trigger until your sights are on the target and you are ready to shoot.
    • Making sure of your target and what is beyond.
  • Are not in possession of alcoholic beverages while discharging a firearm.

Between all of the accounts that have been reported on the MSM and linked and on these threads: the conversations with Moab, the 2 hitch hiking rides, the Victor, ID merchant, the Merry Piglet, it is MOO that this was an ongoing issue. MOO

I'm leaning this way as well. It's a lot of publicly witnessed behavior for a new dynamic. Abuse/domestic violence tends to be an iceberg - you only see a small % of it openly.
