GUILTY WY - Jesse Speer for kidnap, rape of 10yo girl, Cody, 8 Oct 2012

I just got home from a drive on I-25 near the Casper area. All of our Interstate signs are blinking "Child Abduction Alert" with the description of a white SUV with 2 gray front seats and a mattress in the back. Call 911 if seen.

I was thrilled to see the signs being used for this. When I crossed from the WY to the CO border on Sunday the CO signs were lit up with the phone number to call for road conditions, not the active AA for Jessica Ridgeway. :(

I think this guy is long gone from Wyoming and probably left in the direction of Montana. The idea upthread about him being a worker in ND area because of the mattress in the back of the SUV is a great one. My DH works there on occassion and often has to stay in hotels 2-4 hours away because of the lack of housing.

Was she conscience when found?
I think this was not his first victim or his last.
Must catch him now!
If he dyes his hair it is very hard to cover white hair.
Who missed work, today?
Who might have scratches?
I hope someone turns him in.

No way it was his first victim, I agree.
He had a gun, he pre thought this out. Maybe not this girl specifically, but someone. I'd like to wring his neck....as my
Grandmom used to sat.

IMO

GAM posted this over in Jessica's thread.

This ------blankety blank-- took her, sexually assaulted her :banghead:and left ..:banghead:..just omg I need a cuss jar and a punching bag because I'm loosing it. Poor baby!! My heart breaks for her. How do littles survive such? :------(

This guy needs to be found ASAP. His vehicle and his description will help, IMO. Like others pointed out already, he needs to gas up. Sleeping in his vehicle? Or his rape-mobile? Strapping bottled water to the roof of the car is weird, IMO. There would be room in the car unless there were other bags and things in there. Could he be from out of state? I wonder if the victim heard his voice and if he had any kind of accent. Ugh....poor girl. The dog trick burns me up. So many kids have been taken with this trick. Thank God she is alive. Prayers for her healing xoxoxo

I heard that there were police swarming in MT earlier today. Maybe the got a tip on him being up there.

When school started in Casper, WY, several children reported that a man in a white van was offering kids rides home from school. According to this article, others were asked if they would help find a lost dog. I know that's a common line with these perverts but I wonder if there's any connection between this, the man in CO 2 weeks ago trying to pick kids up with candy, Jessica's disappearance and the attack on the Cody, WY victim.

I can't believe more Sleuthers aren't on this thread. It sounds to me like the guy is camping out. That's why he has extra water strapped to the top of the vehicle, and a mattress in the back.

Lots of rural routes out of Cody. I assume Yellowstone is still open. It is a dirt road for awhile, but you do get to Gardiner, and lots of places to camp in between. I am sure LE is all over this as a possibility.

I agree - might be a connection to the Colorado missing girl. The similarities in the cases are just way too close. I've driven several times from Denver to Cody in one day, it is not all that hard.

I wish more hunters would find this guy before law enforcement finds him. Those hunting accidents are just terrible. :what:

I always map an area looking for some type of indicator that might be helpful in a search. I'm attaching a map of where I think was nearby she was found off spirit mountain rd if I'm correct but don't know exactly where on that road. My impression is the whole area is extremely rural around the town of Cody. There lots of trails you can see small white lines in the terrain.

The squiggly line is near where I think she was found, my impression is helicopter searches would maybe be more helpful. JMO

You know, people living in cars tend to sleep in Walmart parking lots.

For what it's worth, if he's heading to the North Dakota oil sands, as far as I know, the Wal-Mart in Williston (the epicenter of the oil patch) no longer allows people to sleep in their parking lot. Too many workers from the patch were taking advantage.

(Also, it's strange to hope that the cases of Lyric/Elizabeth, Jessica, and this victim whose name I won't use are related, but I do. If it's the same perp, it means that LE is looking for ONE psycho who targets young girls rather than THREE of them. In a sick way, it's much more "pleasant" to contemplate one person doing all three crimes than it is to think about the likelihood that there are three nearly-equally despicable criminals abducting innocent little girls.)

Fingers crossed for the perp to be found and charged....or like someone above said...or hunters could maybe find him...accidently. Moo

I am so glad she was alive! I am so glad she was found!!! There is much talk here in NE Wyo., that 3 years ago there was a man w the same mo and vehicle trying to pick children up in the Rapid City, S.D. area. Eeeeeeekk!!!!

There is a report with video of the area K was abducted from and where they believe she was taken to.

According to the Cody Police Department, the girl was abducted shortly before 4 p.m. Monday at the Park County Complex on Stampede Avenue in Cody. About 45 minutes later, a friend of the girl reported to authorities that the 11-year-old had gotten into a white vehicle with a man to help him find his dog and had not returned.

45 minutes. It shows just how trusting kids of this age could be - the friend didn't realise straight off that this was wrong.

I run through these sort of scenarios with my 11 year old daughter and she gives the correct answer every time - no, she wouldn't get in the vehicle, yes, she would scream loudly, of course she would run and tell an adult if a friend got in someone's car - but I honestly don't know how she would react if it was a charming stranger who seemed so sincere.

Our local radio news is still asking the public to look for his vehicle and description. Was glad to hear it still being reported this morning.

Sure hope they find this guy. :furious:

I was hoping to come back to this thread and read about the capture of the perp, but I guess there would be no such luck as I can hear JVS blaring in the background.

A lot of the major towns now have traffic video to show the traffic situation to their viewers. I haven't looked at what channels broadcast their traffic views as I haven't pulled up a map yet. Has anyone already checked this out?

I like your way of contemplating. If only it could come true as such, a lot of minds would be eased.

Rumors that he had been caught in places such as Lovell or Casper are as rampant as the theories about who he might be, FBI spokesman Dave Joly said.

“Whether this guy was a local who knew the area or a transient on his way to Billings or a hunter visiting Cody is unclear,” Joly said. “We just don’t know at this point.”

Regarding a possible connection with the case of a still missing 10-year-old girl in Westminster, Colo., Joly said, “We haven’t ruled out anything.”

"Due to the Carter Mountain area being a common area for hunters this time of year, the Cody Police Department is seeking any information from hunters that have been hunting in the area recently that may be able to provide information on possible leads," said Rockvam in the release. "If you have any information that may assist in helping to identify and/or locate the suspect, we ask that you contact the Cody Police Department at 307-527-8700."
A candelight vigil has been scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the parking lot of the Cody Recreation Center, where local church leaders will lead prayers.
"It is a time to lend our support to the (girl's) family and reflect on the importance of community and teaching our children some important life lessons," said KODI news director David Koch in an email.

I had this conversation with my 8 year old yesterday. She swears she wouldn't go off with a stranger, but if there was a lost animal that she thought she could help find, I'm just not sure what she'd do.

A candle light observance will be held Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the Recreation Center within the Park County Complex. The service will be led by local church leaders.

"We're getting together tonight for a short time of prayer, scripture reading, song, and silent reflection as we consider the violent act against a child in our community, the blessing of her being found alive and also how we as a community can come together to support the family and also one another," said Kenny Lee, with the Cody Ministerial Association.
