GUILTY WY - Jesse Speer for kidnap, rape of 10yo girl, Cody, 8 Oct 2012

A man who was among the hunters who found an 11-year-old girl abducted from Cody on Monday evening considers it nothing short of a miracle.

“The Lord put us there at that time for a reason,” Shane Larsen of Cody said.

It was dark, about 30 degrees and four miles from the nearest house when Larsen and his party found the girl, walking in the barrow pit along the road, dressed only in light clothing.

Among the things the girl told them during the next half-hour was that she had initially thought their vehicle was her abductor, coming back for her.

“I just think now, what if she had decided to run from us, thinking we were him? We might not have been able to find her,” Larsen said.

Upon hearing of the kidnapping, Larsen gave the girl his cellphone, and told her to call her mother.

Laske used his phone to call police.

“She said the man had ‘lots and lots of pictures of naked little girls’ in his vehicle"...

Larsen said the girl told him the man pulled a gun on her, put a bag over her head and at one point struck her with the gun.

“She also told us that at one point, they got into a physical struggle, and she kicked him in the nose, and made his nose bloody,” Larsen said.

“I think she had amazing survival instincts,” he added.

At the request of the FBI, the Enterprise is not reporting additional details the girl told Larsen, things he heard her tell her mother on the phone and also how she came to be freed.

So sad for all she's been through. Praying for her recovery. Finding this horrible man will help her heal. I hope they find him soon. For her sake, her family's, the community's, and the safety of other kids. Thank God he let her go/she got away. I agree - it's a miracle those guys were right there to help her, she didn't run, and the grizzly they'd seen didn't find her.

So glad she fought back! Hope they have DNA from that. to her, for her.

Wow, those were hard details to hear.

So great. There's some sick pervert driving around in a rape-mobile that also happens to be overflowing with child *advertiser censored*.

What a brave little girl. I'm glad she got in a good kick to the face.

I've been following this case too, just haven't had much to add that hasn't already been stated.

Please know, little girl, that we are all here for you.

Hope that LE can get a sketch out of the perp soon.

I'm feeling more sure than ever this is connected to Jessica Ridgeway. I can't wait for more details to be released so we can turn our sleuthing towards this...animal.

Edited to add: I think my brain is just having a difficult time processing that there would be this many monsters swimming among our children at the same time.

There just are no words. I hate, hate, hate that our children are not safe. If we aren't safe in Wyoming, there aren't many more places to go. :( I also strongly feel there is a connection between J.R. and the girl in Cody.

Today our Interstate signs had the information about the mattress removed from the Search for a Child Abduction Suspect, but the information about the black and red bag being attached to the top of the SUV was on the alert. IF he is still here, he WILL be found. I just fear he is long, long gone and am so worried for the little girls out there in his path.

I am just sick after all the news this week.

This young girl is going to need a lot of prayers & patience to get through this ordeal
The good lord gave her the fight, courage & angels to get away from him-she is a hero in my book for kicking him in the nose-go on girl!!!
I send many many prayers to you & your family!

I really hope that blood from his nose got on her clothing so they can get dna to get this guy. She is so lucky he didn't kill her, especially since she seems to have fought and struggled. I hate to know she went through such a horrifying experience.

I don't know if I think it's connected to Jessica's case or not. They haven't confirmed yet, but found a body near where she went missing this afternoon. If its her, I can't see the guy killing one child and then letting the next one go.

Then he must have a black eye and some bruises???

I so agree; I hope, hope, hope he got lots of his blood on her and that there is a match in CODIS.

Oh no! I am just now sitting down to see what's going on today with Jessica's case. They found a body?

I am so concerned about this monster abductor in Cody. The part about him having photos of little girls in his car is what really gets me. I hope they find him AND his photos so they can try to identify the girls.

I wonder if he takes the pictures and if so how he prints them out. He must print them off his own printer or something because no store would print them. Just kinda thinking. I used to have a small portable photo printer that ran on rechargeable batteries. It printed great. I wonder if he travels with something like that or if he is local and prints them at home or what

I don't know that he "let her go." That article posted just a few posts up said the FBI didn't want the hunter releasing how she said she got free. There is a reason they don't want that specific information out. IMO.

Here is the quote:

Actually there are a number of small photo printers that run on battery but they need certain ink cartridges that run out fairly quickly. I wonder if anyone has been buying lots of cartridges in local office supply stores

The article now says that the victim said he let her go

Poor baby :(

There are unmanned kiosks in some stores where a camera memory card can be popped in and you print out your own photos. My first thought was child *advertiser censored*. I was so focused on this one victim and the horror of seeing that with everything happening to her. But Charlie's right; it could be trophy shots. I hate to say this but if investigators gently ask, there may be some child *advertiser censored* pix that she remembers that they can identify, then it spark a connection that x guy that they'd connected to that pic has been on the run, matches the description, etc. Its late & I'm not saying that well. Maybe either the perp or the kids in the pix can be identified if she remembers any of them.

Yep, same thought that I hope they have his blood for DNA.

With the hunters nearby, I wondered if the suspect heard a shot, panicked that LE was closing in, and kicked her and her things out of the van to flee ASAP. Just a thought.

This monster is sick! I hope they are able to catch him and link him to other cases..
Taking her deep into the woods. Pictures in his car! He must have a garage or live somewhere he does not fear anyone looking in his windows..Wasn't there another case where the perp had pictures in his car or van??
God bless this child. She is my new hero!

Wow! This brave little girl attended the gathering for her last night! How amazing!

When Pastor Keith Twigg spoke, the 11-year-old girl who had been abducted was at the podium with him. He told the gathering that she wanted to show everyone she was alright.

Many hugged the family and the girl after the service and saw something everyone appreciated, the child was smiling.

Community members gathered Wednesday night for prayer, song and silent reflection. Some expressed outrage directed at the suspect, but realized it was more important to bring people together.

An estimated 300 to 500 people came out to the Park County Complex, as the Big Horn Radio Network, after hearing from listeners, asked the Cody Ministerial Association to help with the service.

We've had a few victims this age (8-12) who came out and spoke, identified themselves, did media interviews.
I wouldn't be surprised if this girl is one of them.

Whatever it takes for them to feel healing, strength, and safety again. I used to work with abused youth. Some have incredible resilience, some struggle to deal and reach their potential. All need love, support, and hope. She seems so strong. Praying for her healing, and her family's.
