And why do I think we're not going to get any news from this landfill search. Well, perhaps, some more Kampfer speak - but no news.

My heart is just sinking as the hours go by --

The search for the missing Colorado City teen, Hailey Dunn continued at the landfill in Big Spring task force officials reported today.

“They are following up on leads that they have developed over the past month,” said Pete Kampfer, Colorado City city manager and spokesman for the task force conducting the search for Dunn, who has been missing since Dec. 28.

“They are following up on leads that they have developed over the past month,” said Pete Kampfer, Colorado City city manager and spokesman for the task force conducting the search for Dunn, who has been missing since Dec. 28.

“I’m not sure if they have cadaver dogs, but they do have dogs at the Big Spring landfill,” Kampfer said.

Texas Rangers, investigators from the Mitchell County District Attorney’s office and members of the Big Spring Police Department conducted the search.

I e-mailed the author of the article on the KTXS site to ask about how long this search was going to last. She replied that is was "just a one day thing". That to seems like they were looking for something very specific and not just a needle in a haystack.

Again this was a reply to an e-mail from my personal account. I cannot link the e-mail as I do not want my personal e-mail address listed all over the net. So take this post as you see fit.

You cannot search a landfill in one day. :maddening:

This is absurd. It has been two months. :banghead:

In Lori's case they stopped the garbage within 24 hours of her disappearance and it still took 33 days to find her body.

That was AFTER a week long search of the landfill starting less than a week after Lori went missing...

Plus a second 12 day or longer search starting August 4th.

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/...issing-wife-makes-first-court-appearance.html

Then they started searching in the end of August and didn't stop until they found her. So they actually searched for more than 50 days total of the 73 days Lori was missing.

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/595095560/Lori-Hacking--Her-body-found.html?pg=3

The body — found 33 days after police first began searching
the refuse pile — was "heavily decomposed," but most of the remains were recovered, Salt Lake City Police Chief Rick Dinse said.

An estimated 4,300 tons
of refuse was deposited at the Salt Lake Valley Solid Waste Facility, 3060 W. California Ave. (1400 South), on July 19, the day Lori Hacking disappeared, Stanford said. By midday July 20, police asked landfill managers to redirect incoming refuse to another area of the facility.

Cadaver dogs and handlers spent 21 unsuccessful nights searching the huge pile of garbage for the woman's remains.

Police then altered their approach, beginning a visual, day-time search for the woman on Sept. 14. Salt Lake police asked for the help of other valley police departments for assistance, with dozens of police officers and firefighters from the area volunteering for the job.

Over the past three weeks, a search team of 20 to 25 people, dressed in overalls and steel-shanked boots, have combed through one-ton sections of garbage with pitchfork-like rakes and sometimes by hand.

Working 10-hour shifts and four-day weeks...

All that keeps going through my mind over and over is Billie making a statement that LE is hoping Shawn did something horrible to Hailey, and just searching the landfill to try to get proof, and then LE quitting...

I can't help it.

I don't think they are looking for a body. I think they are more likely to be searching for recently discarded evidence (clothing or a weapon perhaps).

I just walked in from the doctor's and my husband says, oh they found your little TX girl in that landfill? I screamed and then saw he had on the news where it showed they are SEARCHING for her, which I already knew...and gave him a piece of my mind...:(

Awww, that is so sweet. I like that.

:waitasec: Odd, they either found something or they didn't. Call me crazy, but that sounds promising.

I take that as they have to test whatever they found.

He sure has a way with words. :)

Baum: "Do you feel like you're restricted in what you can release from those conducting the investigation?"

Kampfer: "There's definitely a restriction and I purposefully don't know all the details so I can't answer them."

I have to admit, this made me chuckle just a little bit. He purposely doesn't know all the details so he can't answer them? Is he afraid someone might torture him for answers somewhere?

Wow. I'm beyond shocked that this wasn't publicized. Especially on Help Find Hailey Dunn Facebook.

Meanwhile, Tuesday Colorado City City Manager Pete Kampfer answered resident's questions about the Hailey Dunn case on a local radio show.
Jim Baum, the owner of the station fired away, "Question called in: is law enforcement working with the organized search parties?"
Kampfer answered, "We like to encourage and thank everyone for searching but at the same time we cant advocate it, because of legal issues." Kampfer goes on to explain that people who trespass or get injured while searching can not hold the city liable.
Baum: "Why have their been no recent updates from law enforcement on Hailey's Case?" Kampfer: "We cant tell you everything we know because we don't want to hurt the ongoing investigation."

It is so he can keep his job as spokesman. I don't think he wants to accidentally say more than he should anymore. MOO

I am very glad that there is some movement on this case. Keeping the prayers going!!

Law enforcement has named Shawn Adkins, the former boyfriend of Dunn's mother, Billie Jean Dunn, as a suspect in the case.

Well, someone is sure out of the loop, this is her current boyfriend, she has made that perfectly clear.
