Found Deceased 11-year-old Livingston, TX Girl - Audrii Cunningham - *ARREST* #2

During the emotional hearing, Audrii’s family members delivered emotional, yet incendiary, victim impact statements, addressing McDougal directly & expressing the profound pain & loss they have endured since Audrii’s death. Audrii’s father, Josh Cunningham, Julie, Audrii’s aunt, Tabitha Munsch, Audrii’s grandmother & Philip Munsch, Audrii’s grandfather.

There is an article above where I could access it - and it had what each one said.
Thank you.
I wonder if her mother was there?
It had to be so hard for them to see him and make their statements, after giving this murderer a place to live, and friendship, and assistance.
IMO.

Apparently some of Audrii's family made statements this morning.
I'm interested in finding out who. There is no love lost between some of poor Audrii's family members, and it's always made me sad that she had to deal with that during her short life.
IMO.
@Leilei In case you have not seen or heard these items:

“You know, we’ve had a deal here, and we gotta move on from Don Steven McDougall,” Hawkins said. “I think as a society we need to forget about his existence and just remove him from that, but the second tragedy would be is if we forgot about Audrii.”

Tabitha Munsch, Audrii’s grandmother, also delivered a heart-wrenching statement, sobbing heavily as she spoke. She referred to her granddaughter as their “little angel” and told McDougal, “You took away the life of our little angel. Your punishment in this life will never fit the crime. Nothing will ever bring her back, and that’s your fault.” Through her tears, she added, “May you rot in hell.”

"Our granddaughter was the second victim of his because of a loophole in the law that allowed him not to register as a sex offender," said Philip Munsch.

Audrii's grandparents said they are hoping to pass a new law, called Audrii's Law, that would require offenders to be included in the sex offender registry.

I am happy McDougal will never harm another innocent victim. As to the family, I hope they are able to effect change that makes it harder for some predator in future to harm a child. I don't think they are the best persons to undertake this endeavor. Their judgment about who needs to be on the registry is questionable IMO and will continue to be.

Instead I will simply place this link with an interview with the grandparents. Please pay close attention to Mr. Munsch's comments at the 10:52 mark through 11:28 about how some people are on the sex offender registry because they earned it and others simply because they got caught up in "something".

In the plea deal did he give up his right to appeal?
Yes, he did. Will try to find a link.

ETA:

“The Polk County District Attorney’s Office is announcing today that Don Steven McDougal has accepted responsibility for his actions in the kidnapping and murder of Audrii Cunningham,” Sitton said. “Don Steven McDougal will spend the rest of his life behind bars without the opportunity to appeal or seek parole. This agreement reflects the gravity of the offenses committed and ensures the safety of our community and our children.”

AUSTIN — State Representative Trent Ashby today filed House Bill 2000 in memory of Audrii Cunningham On behalf of Audrii’s Grandparents thank you for filing what will likely be known as ‘Audrii’s Law’ No more glitches in sex offender registration

I find the last part of the statement ironic. What about glitches in adult judgment? Meaning adults who allow an RSO to have access to a child, despite knowing their history? The registry doesn’t help in those circumstances does it?

Don Steven McDougal

"In 2001, he was convicted of possession of marijuana in Liberty County.
In 2003, he was convicted of possession of marijuana in Harris County.
In 2003, he was convicted of possession of a dangerous drug in Liberty County.
In 2005, he was convicted in Baytown for evading arrest or detention.
In 2006, he was convicted of possession of a controlled substance and theft by the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
In 2006, he was convicted of assault on a public servant.
In 2008, he was convicted of enticing a child with intent out of Brazoria County.
In 2009, he was convicted of unauthorized use of a vehicle in Harris County.
In 2010, he was convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
In 2014, he was convicted of theft and reckless driving by HCSO.
In 2019, he pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in Liberty County.
In 2023, he was convicted of resisting arrest."

12 crim convictions in a 22 yr period. I wonder -
- how many total arrests there were, maybe some left unprosecuted for whatever reasons.
- any other missing girls in areas where he lived?

He was 42 at time of arrest for Audrii's murder.
Just random thoughts about a man who is now exactly where he should be.

eta: And where he needs stay.
