He was never convicted of a crime. You can't restrict someone's constitutional rights for not being convicted of violent crimes.

So he got off twice and then killed a kid. Third times the charm. Zimmerman's constitutional rights do not trump a young mans life.

I think most people can agree that Zimmerman overstepped his bounds. I think the contention here is that it's not clear who was the main aggressor. We have one side painting Zimmerman as this rogue agent who was out to kill a black kid, while on the other side we have Martin being portrayed as a who was up to no good. The real question lies at who assaulted who first. The following did lead up to that, yes, and it was incredibly stupid of Zimmerman to do so. However, that doesn't mean that Zimmerman was required to pay for it with his life if that is what actually happened.

OT, but I once argued with EMT's and Fire department at the scene of an accident, when they told the young girl lying on the ground that she looked okay and was there someone they could call to give her a ride home. I told EMT and Fire dept that she HAD to go to the ER because the left side of her head and face were twice as large as the right side and i also told the young girl, she agreed. WTF is all I can say! Oh, BTW, this was a young black girl.

So it's possible that an EMT may have made a slipup in recognizing how severe his injuries could have potentially been?

I wonder what level the EMT was that treated him.

I Can't remember the actress' first name, but last was Richardson. Was skiing with her kids in Canada and slipped, hit her head on a rock. EMT's eval'd her and she said she was alright, a few hours later she was brain dead!!

Would it have changed anything with respect to Trayvon's character if we didn't constantly hear that he was found with skittles and tea, allegedly for his brother?

If not, I'm not sure why it is relevant to begin with. It's nothing but persuasive tactics being used by the media.

I have already linked, in response to request from you, what Trayvon had in his pockets. Tea, skittles, $22, cell phone. In fact you thanked me for doing so. So, all that really seems unknown is whether he was really going to give those skittles to his future step-brother. Trayvon had a lengthy history of volunteering with youth at an optimist club, the young teens of Twin Lakes looked forward to playing football with him, which is not something all much older teens are willing to do. He doesn't seem like the sort of monster who would promise a kid Kittles and then gobble them down himself. Moo

I was just using extremes. A lot of people here are somewhere in-between, but I've also certainly seen both sides posted.

ITA. The info about TM's past refutes the racial profiling angle that is being (IMO, wrongly) pushed. Those who are convinced this case is an issue of race (and not, as I believe, of bad legislation) don't want to hear it because it raises the reasonable doubt that perhaps TM was casing houses or up to no good. That perhaps GZ read his behavior/posture better than the rest of us who weren't even there.

I abhor the vigilante fervor that is taking over our country. To my mind, there is no question that the killing of an unarmed 17-year old (or 7-year old or 57-year old!) should be thoroughly and rigorously investigated. For whatever reason, reasons I can't even guess at, that did not occur. But that is not GZ's fault. And it does not make him guilty until proven innocent.

I beg to differ, I think each and every day it shows more and more that who Trayvon was, a black kid isn't going to get justice based on old stereotypes, that's why his picture seems to be so paramount to the case.

That kid just MUST be guilty, he can't be a victim, how dare his parents portray him as a good kid, what are they hiding. When over and over we've seen families put out pictures of their misisng and murdered loved ones from all different ages..

And also because there is NOTHING in his past that showed a history of violence on his part. He was found with only skittles and iced tea, now even that is supect.

There's been nothing dug up that showed he was a criminal, he had suspensions, not a bearing or a fact in his murder, he smoked pot, good heavens, how many kids drink and smoke pot, but wham, he's a drug dealing gang banger so he's a violent attacker.

And the main issue isn't even that GZ had no right to think he was suspicious or even call 911, no one has EVER said that. HE chose to go after him, HE chose to tail him with a loaded weapon. HE's the one with the proven aggession problems.

Others can't be blamed for reacting to GZ's own words and actions, calling him an Effin **** or these a****** always get away while he's chasing him down.

One of my daughters was in a serious accident, broadsided by someone who ran a red light, totaled her car. When the EMT's came, she refused to go with them, had to sign a waver. It wasn't till the next day that her injuries became extremely painful and she went to the hospital. Sometimes when we incur a trauma, the extent of it isn't apparent until hours later IMO.

that is very true, but here's the thing, as I linked above, one of the most common symptoms of a head injury is confusion, trouble thinking and making decisions...so if there was in fact proof of a violent head injury (which in my medical opinion a scalp laceration and a story of having your head slammed on the pavement IS) then he should not have have been allowed to sign a waiver based on the fact that he could be endangering himself because a common symptom of his injury is confusion and difficulty making decisions

I cannot reconcile the two either the information and evidence of the head injury was there which required that more than a bit of treatment in the back of the squad car happened and they just didn't do it.

Or the injuries were simply not as described to us thus far, but you can't have him viciously beaten with horrific and dangerous head injuries, but not bad enough to go to the hospital

Again, I'm not questioning that he had them. I'm questioning why there would be deception in the media if it wasn't clear that's what he was actually doing at the time.

and this is exactly the point. Zimmerman should have never followed him in the first place especially after he was told by 911 not to.

Even if he did simply follow him in order to give the police who were in route a better idea where to find him, that is not conduct which would allow TM to attack GZ. could shoulda woulda doesn't work in the law. Is following someone to give the police their location being the agressor? Probably not. If TM started the physical confrontation, whether out of fear or not he is the agressor. TM had a phone and could have called 911 as well to report GZ following him. He did not have to attack - IF THAT IS WHAT HAPPENED AND I AM NOT STATING THAT IT DID AS FACT - JUST AS A POSSIBLE SCENARIO.

Chief Lee came out and said GZ would not be charged because they had already made the decision it was self defense. He was free to go. Never did we hear that GZ was not arrested pending further investigation. Had there not been an uproar is sounds as if this investigation would have been closed. Rug was up and their broom was in hand. So it seems. jmo

After several activist groups protested Monday over State Attorney Angela Corey's appointment to the Trayvon Martin case, a group of African-Americans came to Corey's defense Tuesday.

When I first read this, yesterday, I had a problem believing this fresh-faced, innocent looking teenager was the kind who would say or do such a thing.

Do you have a link to this? Because I have looked for it myself and have only found him stating that they don't believe it to be self defense yet, they're wrapping up the case, and will turn it over to the state attorney the next day.

I agree, and I told her 'you should have gone to the hospital'. But especially these days, with cost's as they are, many people don't go to the hospital. In some areas you have to pay for the transport to the hospital, and the ER costs are outrageous. So people think 'well, I'm okay, battered and bruised up a bit, but I *feel* fine, so............
