2010.04.23 Grandma Sykes and Neves Search at the St.John River

Maybe searching the woods is just making them feel like they are doing something.
You know?

Like, maybe they are tired of just waiting around and feel they need to be doing something.

I can see Sykes not believing HaLeigh is dead, but still searching after hearing all these stories. She said she will not believe HaLeigh is dead until she sees proof. Maybe she's just looking for the proof.

I just don't see TN and Sykes as being guilty of anything. I think they both loved/love HaLeigh and kinda got caught in the crossfire of their children/inlaws.

But, you never know.

The constant defending of MC by them is kinda hinky.

My head is spinning. None of these people are normal. So, it's hard to try to get a mindset on any of them.

GGM is not looking for proof Haleigh is dead; she's looking for proof of a homicide. She's stated that. Twice.

I've heard her state several times that she will not believe HaLeigh is dead until she sees proof. I believe her words were "until I see a body or something that proves she is dead" (paraphrasing).
Maybe she used different words in her interview on NG the other night, but IMO she is meaning the same thing she has said for the past 15 months.
She said it at Mondex. She said it in various interviews since HaLeigh has been missing.

IMO she is looking for anything she can about HaLeigh. I think she loves HaLeigh very much and took care of her most of her life. I think she is grief stricken to even think about what happened to her. To make things worse, RC (who she also loves very much) looks to be involved in some sort of coverup at the least.

JMO of course.

And, to add, I think she does not want to believe HaLeigh is dead, but in her heart knows she is.
IMO that's a tough spot to be in, but I can see me reacting the same way.

Holding on tight to the slim chance, but knowing in my heart she's gone.

I'm in no way saying Sykes has acted perfect since all this went down, I just dont see her as the villian a lot of other people see.

Just differences in opinion.

That's right. A person who is holding out hope that a person is alive looks for proof of death, not manner.

Is it possible that GMa Hollars told GGMa Sykes something she hasn't said on tv ?

I think back to the Sheriff's presser, he did allude to the fact that Haleigh could have become deceased at the location of the search. LE was searching the woods so they had something that indicated to them they needed to check the woods. The woods doesn't seem to be all that relevant if someone just drove up and placed a body in the water. Perhaps had there been a party, in the woods maybe ? Maybe Joe Pytko was just a little off on location but was right about a party.

Hey Raisin, I never thought about that. I know there was mention of a party maybe this is where the party took place. Good thinking Raisin. I have to ponder this for a minute.

Yes, they do IMO.
She wants the truth, she wants HaLeigh laid to rest, and I believe she knows in her heart HaLeigh is gone.

But, she still must hold on to the last shred of hope that she is alive until she sees proof otherwise.

I think I'd be the same way.

yep, I agree debs...that said, I think she and TN know that HaLeigh is gone and were trying to make sure that they didn't see anything that would incriminate Ronald...

Knowing that LE was searching that next day, I have to wonder why they would risk contaminating a 'possible' crime scene, if the TRUTH was really what they were after, kwim? I suppose I'm just a cynic when it comes to this crowd..

eta~on second thought, how would LE know if they did remove anything?..not suggesting that they did, only wondering how LE would know either way?...hmm..

I was glad that Grandma Hollar and GMS went mano a mano. Grandma Hollar's stories maybe unreal and hard to believe, but GMS wants everyone to believe that RC/MC lifestyle was a nice neat package. How lucky for Misty she never had to do the kids laundry, I wonder if GMS did the same for Amber?

She did say doing the kids laundry was something she had always done.

It's interesting to me that AS portrayed everything as an idyll for a long time, then RC and Misty were arrested and she gave that interview about the problems there had been and I thought she'd got tired of covering up for them but now it's back to Misty was not on drugs, she fed the children and things were fine.

Donjeta, the laundry thing doesn't bother me in the least, I can totally believe that as I'm a little like that myself..but I wasn't when I was younger. In my younger days, I did well just to get the laundry done, forget about pre-treating for stains. Since I believe that she most likely bought the childrens' clothes, she prolly wanted to make sure they stayed in good condition. I don't doubt that she loves HaLeigh and Jr with all of her heart, I just believe that she loves Ron more..and will go to pretty much any extent to protect him...jmo however..

Oh, I believe that was a way for GMA to maintain some control over the kids, not that I blame her. She didn't want DCF to see them dirty. They went overboard to compensate for the lifestyle ron led.

Don't think they limited the laundry to just the kids either, I'm betting ron's clothes were washed also. Bet she came by and picked up all dirty clothes off floors, except sheets and towels; I bet she came often too. I suspect, and repeat that GMA raised the kids and rc had very little to so with it.

He took jr when he was six months old and Haleigh barely two. Come on now, not for one minute was this 22 yr old guy, changing any diaper, making formula and caring for an infant and toddler. He just didn't. I will go further and say that GMA had them the entire time when he didn't have a girlfriend that would take care of them. Even then, she must have kept a close eye out....but she missed this one...has to have tremendous guilt.

No, I have no problem with her doing the laundry. The importance of stain removal now makes sense to me and Misty wouldn't be anal about it. It just seems to me that she might have liked to have the excuse to drop by frequently to check on the children who were being taken care of by seemingly unreliable people and I wonder about some things that she might have seen.

It was interesting how Misty's babysitting skills were praised by TN because Haleigh was always dressed like a queen but some of the credit belonged to AS who took care about her clothes.

AS should get all of the credit for the kids looking clean and cared for, actually...IMO

They were trying to build up misty to make ron look good in his choices of care provider. They are on a mission to keep rc out of trouble. So misty has to be the best caretaker...EVER.

I opened a laundry thread. Back on topic here please.

You can bet your bippy that GMA was in that house that night. She picked up all the kids clothes too, may have washed them and brought them back at 4:00am. This pink shirt that was stained may have been washed and put in the basket. I recall it being said that the pink shirt show no evidence of being worn outside.

If my child was missing and it was 14 MONTHS later and NO closer to solving the incident.... I can't say I wouln't go searching myself if I recieved a phone call to where his reamins may be..I beleive I would be gone in a flash .... what would I be looking for? My child and anything that has to do with my child, I think I would have given up on the LE by the time 14 months passes by...

Could it be that Chelsea gave Grandma Flo the info about Highway 309, stating Joe stayed there (I believe she said this on one of the shows). Then Grandma Flo calls GGM Sykes, and she knows where Joe stayed so she and TN go to search woods on Monday ? I don't know how close they were to Shell Harbour, but maybe they just had info about 309 and where "Joe stayed" ? I am starting to wonder what Tommy did tell Flo, if anything. Tommy's lawyer said that either Lindsey or Flo called him Sunday night (can't remember which one). Could it be that after Tommys lawyer told him to come clean (after the failed poly), Tommy specified Shell Harbour to LE on Monday leading to the dock trip, and not in a conversation to Flo ?

Seriously? See, I would be too afraid to do that for a couple of reasons..

(1) being that after 14 months of what has seemed like very little headway made, regarding where and what happened to HaLeigh and FINALLY LE has a new and promising lead. I would be terrified that not knowing what I was looking for, I may disturb or destroy evidence that could lead to her murderer. I just wouldn't be able to take that chance..no way, no how..'cause for all I knew, LE may never get another lead like that..how horrible would that be to possibly be the REASON that evidence was destroyed or contaminated in some way..

(2) not as important as #1, nevertheless.. Again after this length of time, it's extremely unlikely that there would be any 'body' left to find, not anything they (or myself) would probably recognize and they know this..so what were they looking for that was so important enough to risk everything?..the TRUTH, the perps being prosecuted..maybe even HaLeigh being able to be recovered...They never should have done that, imho..and I admit, I am pondering what would possess them to do such a careless and reckless thing?..hmm....:waitasec:.

Why would GGM Sykes say on national TV that she and her daughter had searched the woods before LE ? Was it to say this, "of course we didn't find anything" ? That reminds me of the statement, "no odor" which was uttered in a different case, same state.

I am serious..

I really think I wouldn't care what I found.. just anything to do with my child would satisfy me...
If my child was missing, I would be in such a state of panic that my thought would be no where near thinking of the LE or wrecking a crime scene....it probably would be I want my child back in my arms...I imagine that a child that has passed away is still loved with same intensity as he/she was loved when he/she was alive, perhaps more...
Again, this has never happened to me, so like I said, I am assiming these are the things I would most likley do..
