2010.04.30 Casey Anthony: Friday hearing

Seems to be a very different demeanor today. Inmate Anthony seems very pensive, stared at the judge as if she was in a different state of mind. I'm wonder what SHE was thinking. CA/GA also seemed very nervous/anxious as you see her biting her nails.

No nonsense is a perfect term for Judge Perry, Jr. Seems he will get his trial rolling along without kinks. Seems he brought order to the court...

Yes, seems the judge will bring jurors from other counties to Orange County and he wants them sequestered. Which is a wise move on His Honor's part to ensure the integrity of those jurors. I like he's thinking ahead. He wants DVD movies and games listed to keep those jurors busy during deliberations. So, change of venue will happen but they will bus the jurors to them..that is FS 910.03 Change of venue is FS 2.260.

Judge will not say what county for the change of venue until nearer trial date which is set for May 9, 2011...

Seems this trial will take about 9 weeks...6-8 weeks for state and defense to put on their chief case and another 3-5 days for a penalty phase should defendant be found guilty of murder in the first degree...huge sigh from Inmate Anthony as the judge stated this..

All in all, you see this is a very different atmosphere in the courtroom today. A different attitude from the defense/state and seemed very harmonious in front of this judge. Reminds me of the principal taking over the classroom and everyone is on their best behavior...

I enjoy Judge Perrys' demeanor, his talk, his wording, great impression of His Honor...

It is clear the defense has been as scattered as Waffle House Hashbrowns, but the day of reckoning is upon them. Thank you, Lord, for this judge...Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Scattered, smuthered, covered with cheese and chunked!

KC did not once....preen, pick, scratch, rub, cry, fix or flirt.

She did however......."shwallow", gulp, listen, stare, and get a big dose of reality.

To be fair the primping ritual started early on but as soon as the Judge Perry walking in she didn't move a muscle.

H...E...to the double L YEAH!!!! The mere fact that this judge was even TALKING about the death penalty phase was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And we didn't have to hear JB whine "they want to kill Mizz Anthony".

Seriously, why was Cindy smiling? Sith.

There are always two: a master and a apprentice. Which is Casey and which is Cindy?

MOO

Yeah, aksleuth! :)

Where was all that talk about "killing Casey"? By Bozo Baez? What a difference a judge makes... :)

What was the defense's reason for getting a new judge, again?

I think Cindy being giddy means she is glad this is finally happening and there is an end in sight. I personally think she has been done with Casey for a long time and dreaded this whole nightmare taking more and more time as the defense kept delaying. I think she is happy that Baez is looking more and more like he's in over his head, and that no matter what, this trial is happening and things are finally getting seriously under way.

I don't think she wants Casey dead, but in jail for the rest of her life. I think Cindy and George can live with that. George seems down about it, but I think they both realize how this is finally going to end. The reality is clear - no swaggering out of court, found innocent, on CM's arm for Casey!

And since Judge Perry is not on normal rotation he has PLENTY of time to devout to this case.

And that is the last thing I think the defense wanted....too bad...they asked for it and now that have it, like it or not.

And since Judge Perry is not on normal rotation he has PLENTY of time to devout to this case.

I love that he also let that be known to JB et al..........! :gavel:

He has plenty of time, he wants judicial expedition as well as economics! No Nonsense!

How disrespectful of "Ms Lyons", (sorry I can't help but mispronounce her name after what JB said-in fact I think I will mispronounce it till the end :)) to be off doing something else while this hearing was taking place, making the judge shout her name a few times to get her attention! Geesh! Pathetic....even JB was shaking his head in disbelief!!

moo

I saw a nervous Cindy. She smiled a few times, mouthed "I love you" to Casey as she was leaving, but I also so her looking quite nervous. At one point she had her hands up to her mouth and her hands were visably shaking.

Oh my, does anyone feel like this is a new day?

This is what we have been waiting for. For Casey to stand trial and answer the charges of which she is accused.

Today was a step forward, might I say a giant leap forward in FINALLY getting a little closer to justice for CAYLEE.

There will be an end to the interminable motions.

The trial will start.

Caylee will not be forgotten amongst the legal wrangling and will one day be free of the stench of her awful demise - then we can all mourn her and let her be.

KC has been practicing holding still. Guess her blouse fits and her hands don't itch today, and her hair is cooperating. Hmmmm

Cheney probably made her pull it back to keep her from messing with it. :)

Yeah she sure got caught didn't she....very unprofessional!!!

For the most part, I thought CA had a smile/lightened moment only when she heard JP talking about movies and games for the jurors. Other than that, unless I somehow missed it, I thought she looked concerned and studying the new judge to sorta try to evaluate if this is gonna be as hard as she's been hearing. I believe she got her answer today. Yes, it is different. I don't feel very bad if CA's entire day has been ruined.

No kidding. I'm surprised she didn't bring up exams for her law students as an excuse to delay the trial next year. Wasn't teaching her excuse for everything she wasn't able to do for awhile? Or is she actually NOT teaching for once?

I wish he hadn't accepted her daughter's graduation as an excuse, but at least he wasn't happy about it.

And why does Casey need TWO death penalty qualified lawyers on her case again?

That's because their atty. Mr. Conway has had experience with the judge and has informed them that the nonsense and latitude of Judge S. is now long gone. Also I am sure he's informed them that Judge Perry has no trouble with the death penalty! JMO

I noticed how JB kept looking to CM whenever the judge asked him anything. Can this guy make no comments on his own? Wth?

Cindy smiling and being giddy was so off. WTH??? What was her joy? That jurors would have movies and games chosen for them? Goodness.

Gotta say, KC doesn't look good at all. Frightened would be a good word.

ITA, Aksleuth. Seems to me it's finally hitting Inmate Anthony that she is in the fight for her life. I don't think she really took it so seriously before but now, she's got a different look about her, like a deer caught in the headlights. I sure hope reality has finally slapped her in her face. She kept her eyes affixed on Judge Perry. I saw her hugh sigh when he mention, should the defendant be found guilty of murder in the first degree, how long do you think the DP phase will take..huge sigh..Yeah, Inmate Anthony, I think you may know what the outcome might be..

Also when LDB bought up the motion on hearsay, innuendo and gossip, party photos, etc..another huge sigh..this to me shows the consciousness of guilt..JMHO
