His Honor is making sure this trial stays on course for the May 9, 2011 start and Baez has the audacity to ask that this pretrial come to a halt since he will be unavailable for those days.

He should remember he is only the "lead" attorney on file but one that is not DP qualified. The other two attornies can fill him in when he comes back but he really shouldn't be taking one day off, this is a serious case which demands his full attention but he doesn't get that, does he?

I doubt very much His Honor will abide by his insane request. Each time it appears he shows more and more how full of himself he is and how truly inept he is. :maddening:

Money was his driving force. I do believe he thought he'd get this prisoner a million bucks to use towards her defense...I still feel it was HE who brokered the deal to gain monetarily from Caylee's blood.

I believe he should have stepped aside once a DP charge was placed on this prisoner. He claimed the DP was only placed on this case to get him booted off...Same when he wanted the SA's booted off as well. I believe he is still as unethical as he was when it took 8 years to fix what the Florida Bar Association held against him, he's still the same person...but more defined in his elaborate tales...I'll never understand how someone would break the law in the name of upholding the law...seems like an oxymoron to me...as always, JMHO

I know that certain states have enacted laws forbidding a convicted murderer (or maybe any convicted felon.. :waitasec from profitting from their crimes via book deals, media appearances, etc... However, I am not sure if it there is any federal legislation or how far it extends (e.g.,. family), etc...

I am pretty sure the State would have no rights to any money though.

I have read on another thread that Judge P can cancel (if that's the right word) Baez's Notice of Unavailability, assuming--as likely is the case--that the time off is for a vacation.

If this cancellation is possible, I hope Judge P will take steps. It seems so unfair and illogical that Baez can take time off, ask for an additional 45 days (or more) extension, and still fail to meet pending deadlines.

I am not altogether sure that money is the primary motivation, though it certainly is strong.

I agree with what you are saying but if I were a person who committed a serious crime I would want an attorney who looked under every rock, delayed my trial and pretty much upset applecarts to keep me from prison even though he knew I was guity as sin. His methods leave a lot to be desired but he's managed to delay this trial for almost three years and publicly announced that someone else put the body there. KC has nothing to complain about. Now you and I, we have a lot of problems with him. lol

This is a well thought out and comforting post! It makes me feel better knowing that so many things that have been done and are being done will keep KC from getting certain appeals. How can she claim ineffective council when he has done everything, including ruining his own career, to get her off? As always, Lambchop, you are a voice of calm and reason.

This $500,000.00 interview was being talked about before Casey was indicted in October 2008. I just know that there was talk, back then, about Casey getting a lot of money for an exclusive interview that they were trying to make happen.

She can not make money off of her crime once convicted. No interviews for money. No books for money. No movies for money. She can not sell pictures of her victim. Videos of her victim, etc...

Cindy and George are going to try and make as much money as they possibly can after this trial is over. They will be writing books, pitching movie deals, charging to speak at public events, etc... the easiet way to put a stop to this becoming a huge financial gain for them, it to not buy what they are selling. Companies are not going to buy into something that they can't sell... it is our job to make sure Cindy and George have nothing to sell.

No, I'm not 100% sure. I just can't recall any state recouping any funds in past similar instances.

IIRC, Mr Ashton had Defense expert witnesses lined up for depositions. And had relied on the 20 day time limit.

Who knows, but perhaps JB and KC have already made audio or video tapes during that time which JB will have to use at his discretion after the trial. They may even have made a deal; if KC goes to jail, he gets to use them to raise money for his own payment and her appeals, and if he can get her off, they split the money from those tapes. Oh, I don't think JB would be allowed to do that. He claimed under oath there were no deals for books or movies. He couldn't broker that deal for KC and yet ABC said he did. So that could be a problem for him down the road don't you think??

I truly expected something from the judge or state today. Wonder why nothing, so far? Both the judge and the state seem to be wise to doing things in writing through the clerk and not giving Baez et al verbal stuff. It is very odd to me nothing has been filed today.
