I think what is interesting is they are asking Shawn A. not to search yet they are letting CD. So does that mean CD is not a POI? It might be assumed.

  • #62
Yes Swedie a witness can also be called a POI. I think since we have seen this interchangeable term used and since they are saying that SA should not search, that the "suspect" is still the "suspect". moo

It is very rare for a Police Department to name a suspect until they are ready to arrest them. Unless they are searching for him/her and want help from the public in locating that person.

Another term used is "Target".

I agree. Synonyms, and that's all it is.

And I don't think he is suddenly warming up to the FBI. I think he is getting a little too comfortable so the FBI encouraged him to come in and have a little chat, probably non-threatening, to make him put down his guard a little. And then they just let him talk - which he likes to do - and they are probably studying his every word as closely as we are.

Let's hope LE got all their little old duckies in a row, and their scenerio all planned out. Like those little subliminal, trickery questions they ask....then they reel him in. :great:

I found this statement also interesting.

Regarding the naming of other people of interest, Kampfer said officials are following several leads, including two leads involving people.
"Two leads involving people?" As opposed to what? Two leads involving aardvarks? Was there a transcription omission, or is this what he really said?

Nope- that's what he said. I remember questioning that sentence when it came out. Two leads involving people? As opposed to two leads involving boxes. Who knows. Its just how Kamper speaks. Strange..............

But glad you brought that back up - after all the "revelations" in the past few days - I actually might just be starting to understand him.

:woohoo::rocker: Thanks Grams! Now that I got the answer right, do I get to pick a treat from the treasure chest? lol

Sorry every1 I'll explain...When I was in grade 1 our teacher divided the class in half. During the week she'd ask random questions. Whatever side of the room had the most correct answers at the end of the week, got to pick treats for the treasure box. My favorite treat was the can cigarettes lol.:floorlaugh: k going to sit in the corner...again.

By the way, WOO...thanks for your avatar. If you stare at it long enough, it will straighten out eyes (and brains) that have gotten crossed up from reading all the doublespeak in this case.

Hi guys...sorry to break in but I am looking to find someone to give me some moral support. I haven't followed Hailey's case in a while. I can't believe I read that SA was moving back in with BO...and there is a brother and and Mystery Man??

Did he ever say he thought Shawn did it?

Adkins, Hailey's mother's once live-in boyfriend told KTAB in an exclusive interview that he maintains his innocence, and Clint says although he believes Adkins is sincere.

"He needs to help find Hailey," said Clint, "so he can get the heat off of him."

This sure doesn't sound to me like CD thinks SA is guilty of kidnapping and murdering his daughter. There seems to be a big shift in alot of things in the last few days. I still maintain SA's lawyer would not have allowed him to do an interview on the news unless the focus is off SA.

(I don't think there should be a period and paragraph break in the news story. Lovely writing on this site.)

Very very interesting... I didn't realize they had asked SA not to search. Hmmm... Thinking about that for a minute...not searching...not searching... :silenced:

I think that CD is merely toning down his statements and putting some finger-pointing distance between his loved ones and SA. It may have occurred to CD that other members of his family could be endangered, since he spoke candidly about BD during a "chat" with a media person a few days ago. He did not follow through with an audio that was planned, and there could have been some not too subtle hints to back off. Perhaps he was advised by LE to zip it for a bit for before things got too hot. The statements made by LE are probably deliberately vague as to what they have at this point. They may still be gathering evidence while comparing more "he said, she said" statements, which would confuse the heck out of anyone.

According to my BIL, he is a detective, "person of interest" is a more politically correct way of saying "suspect" His department doesn't even use the term suspect and hasn't since the mid 80's.:twocents:

I think it more of a legal issue for LE. Remember the "suspect" in the Atlanta bombing, Richard Jewell? Sued out the ying yang. Maybe this is what BD was talking about when she said she would deal with it. She plays both sides of the fence and knows which one is buttering her bread at the time, imo. Also maybe why it seems LE is doing a little back peddling.

I've wondered about that too. CD is not out of my "field of suspicions" yet. It makes me uneasy because he heads down to the Odessa area and the MX border. Now is talking about a slight chance she may be in Canada. If this was a custody battle and HD was taken somewhere to go into hiding....I pray it's Canada and not Mexico.

On another note and with abduction....there is the possiblity of her being abducted and taken to MX for the sex trade. Young blondes are in high demand, by all the accounts I have read. Not to mention what is going on in that area of crime in our own backyards. :(

HB where did he say Canada? Was it in an interview or paper? I miss that one. I would pray Canada too and not MX. Oh that's so scarey. I feel our borders are pretty secure. I'm sure they have H's info at the border, wouldn't you think? This case is so confusing and too many lies and half truths. I flip flop on my opinions of these people like a fish out of water.

Prayers for precious Hailey. May we get great news today. Nite y'all.

True maybe he just considers both the same. Still odd he goes from one thing to the next!

That. He doesn't seem to me to realize there's a difference.

At this point, I'd like to hear a press conference, and hear directly from the head of the investigation, someone in LE, on several things.

PK just doesn't seem to understand the importance of LE and legal terminology.

What is the difference in a POI and a suspect???

It depends on who's talking. Apparently they throw these words around and use them interchangably, so at this point.... your guess is as good as anybody's.

  • #80
Thanks PM. :seeya: It can also mean that a POI is just someone who LE would like to speak to, or have spoken to, who may have info about a case, possible witness. YES? Suspect is someone who LE believes may be involved with the crime.

You're right... they can call a potential witness a POI and I have seen this in a few cases. And they sometimes call someone a POI right up until they slap the cuffs on them and escort them to jail.
I really think Mr. Kampfer jumped the gun a little when he called Shawn a suspect so early into this case. But I think he does use these terms interchangably, and it's confusing. And that may be on purpose.
