2011.02.21: Hailey's Angel's Quit Searching(decision reversed 2011.2.22)

EVERY volunteer organization I have ever worked with had Volunteer Appreciation Events. The truth is if you want people to keep coming back they need to feel appreciated. I don't find that too upsetting. Volunteer work like this requires a tremendous amount of personal sacrifice. Why shouldn't they get some appreciation? It does not mean they are doing the searching FOR the appreciation, but a little encouragement and gratitude would be nice. IMO Especially for searchers who showed up EVERY DAY FOR 8 WEEKS.

This group is passionate, and there are some raw edges. They did not act like a professional search group would. But then the professional groups show up for Hailey sporadically. They are searching for many missing, all over the country. But many are being paid, or at least reimbursed for expenses.

Hailey's Angels were focussed on Hailey only. So perhaps they did get too personal, too in your face. But if my child was missing, I would rather have a passionate, focussed group searching every day, no matter if they thought my BF was involved or not. Who cares. Find Hailey and the answers wil be found. It looks to me like Billie is trying to avoid that.

Has anyone on this forum seen this video? If not I don't know how anyone can post an opinion of what their motive was and why or why not BD should have reacted the way she did.

I am not sure a dinner is the proper place but then as I said above I haven't seen the video. I am sure BD has visions of the worst in her mind and she doesn't need to be reminded of it by a video espeically at the dinner hour. jmo

It was not just a 'dinner.' It was a VOLUNTEER SEARCH APPRECIATION DINNER. The purpose of the dinner was to SHOW APPRECIATION to those volunteers who have been searching. I have never been to an appreciation dinner that did not have some kind of presentation,[ video, slides, powerpoint, ] to show exactly what the volunteers do.
If billie did not want to be 'reminded' that people were searching the ugly dirt for her missing daughter, then she should have stayed home. IMO

“I wish I could give everybody gas money, but I haven’t worked in a month and a half. There is an account set up at City National Bank (in Colorado City) for the searchers, but I don’t know anything about it,” she added.

I think we all know that most Legions are bars. Primarily for members and their guests of the Legion, but they are bars.

And since when was H going to play basketball. That is not what she told Shawn, the last one to speak to her. Why would she lie to him about going to play basketball?

If they weren't invited, then why complain about the way it was handled. They weren't even supposed to be there to see the offensive video right?

I've been to many meeting @ my local American Legion Hall - for several different causes from political to community zoning issues to personal enrichment workshops - and I've never heard them referred to as "bars". In fact, an AA chapter meets @ my local Hall.

I'm so glad to see that she finds comfort with the POI in her missing daughter's case. Not with her family or her son, but with the POI.

Sounds like that director could have been to rude to Billie at that dinner and if it wasn't really about Hailey and more about them then I could see why she was upset.
