IMO this case is not too relevant. The question there was whether the confession was "tainted" by a prior arrest without probable cause. The defendant WAS read his Miranda rights before being questioned about another crime.

Here, there is, IMO no question that Casey's handcuffing for stealing property WAS with probable cause based on everything Cindy said. And she was NOT read her Miranda rights before being questioned about the other crime.

So perhaps if there had been questioning relating to the property theft that would be tainted, but the subsequent questioning was about a different crime (kidnapping) and the uncuffing and voluntariness broke the causal link between the "arrest" and the making of the incriminating statements?

George and Cindy both shook their heads in disagreement with what KDB was stating - in regards to "both parents testified that Casey spent about an hour alone in her room AFTER coming back with sgt. Acevedo." They clearly aren't happy about what they're hearing.

LDB stating that miranda has to do when a person is in custody - Casey was in her room for an hour on her own before YM got there.... after handcuffing. Reasonable to believe statements before that were not in custodial situation trying to find daughter - interviews

IMO the whole "tainted by the arrest" question is irrelevant here because there was nothing wrong with the arrest for stealing property. There was probable cause for it. The question here is whether that (perfectly proper) arrest was "undone" enough that a reasonable person would have felt they were no longer "in custody" later on when talking to LE.
