2011.05.13 - Jury Selection DAY FIVE MORNING SESSION

I was getting worried last night. Thinking that I believe GA and CA are really awful parents and in that case KC is right. However - I think they raised a sociopath and that KC is the only one to blame for what happened to Caylee. Like many of you know I had my son at 15 and my parents were busy with affairs etc. I had a very difficult upbringing in the most dangerous neighborhood in Brooklyn NY.

But I love my son and nothing my parents coudl do to me would change that.

I am worried that the jury will not see this as I do and she will get a lesser charge than she deserves. MO

I think that they will get that every parent is not perfect. I should know. casey was a 22 year old woman and she did not give her life for her child, instead she took her childs life so that casey could live. They will get it alright. you have to have faith. Last juror was perfect example of that. Her daughter had troubles. jmo

I have a hard time believing they will reach the number 12 tonight. They spent 1 1/2 hrs on this one. Kind of seems like the yesterday morning threat that they would get through all 36...we saw how that worked out.

Just back in court - all rise please.

IIRC, normally she doesn't go----She normally sits there..Lunches yes--breaks no

I think she had to use the ladies room. She was checking the back of her tucked in blouse as she walked back to her seat. jmo, of course.

When we get to number 12 if you intend to exercise any backstraps you may, but after that we will get to final jury selection they will be replaced one at a time and we will get to that number tonight. Said by HHJP firmly. All rise for a five minute break.

Not directed at you, LG, just thinking out loud.

So what is HHJP going to do if the DT spends 4 hours on the next PJ? IMO, he is limited to how much he can rein them in without it causing an appellate issue.

Trial is going to be 12 to 16 weeks, I'm sure of it, sigh.

I heard that they will get a panel of twelve, then exercise strikes. After that, each juror is examined one by one and either stricken or admitted. Is that right? How many strikes does each side get?

From what I understand each side is supposed to get 10 strikes :waitasec:

Also, yesterday IS was saying they needed 40 people in this process. 20 for jurors and alternates and 20 for the 10 strikes each side gets so I don't understand how we can have 12 tonight?

JUROR RECAP #1312

Pretrial Publicity: *Doesn't watch or read much news. *Has seen a few interviews with "Casey and a young man". *Watches 60 Minutes and 48 Hours. *Heard about Caylees remains being found. *Doesn't have (and doesn't like) Facebook. *Says Casey is "very emotional". *Doesn't recall any blogs or programs she's watched/read about the case. *Says the media is "a little bit intimidating". *No concerns about the media- believes she can remain fair/impartial. *Camera in the courtroom wouldn't distract her. *If the media contacted her post-trial, she says she would answer their questions but it isn't something she'd "voluntarily seek out". *Indifferent about serving on the jury.

Death Penalty Stance: For it. *Is fine recommending either life in prison w/o parole or the death penalty. *Could recommend the DP if the facts were conclusive. *Says she believes each scenario should be looked at individually. *Wouldn't try to pressure another juror if they disagreed. *Considers age, history of abuse, social history, and behavior as types of mitigating circumstances.

Misc.: *Works at a hospital as a pre-admission and anesthesia nurse. *Lived in PA her whole life before moving to Florida. *In PA, worked as a surgical nurse for 23 years. *No experience with police or rescue dogs, but has a friend who trains service dogs and has seen how that person trains dogs. *Says she is "not 100% sure that PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) is a real disorder". *Has treated victims of both physical and sexual abuse during her hospital work.

Family: *In the process of going through a divorce. *Has 2 children (ages 30 and 32) and 2 grandchildren (ages 4 and 5 months)- all live in Florida. *Daughter currently on probation (requested to talk to attorneys/judge in a sidebar to explain why). *Very active in her grandkids lives. Sees them about 1 time per week. *Brother was on trial for armed robbery 25 years ago and acquitted (she attended his trial).

Describes herself as..: *A nurse. *Active in her family. *A fair person. *Loves to read. *Has a close network of friends (mainly in her neighborhood).

State: No challenges/objections. Defense: No challenges/objections

Called back for next round.

This are GREAT....NICE JOB!!!

The not reporting Caylee missing for 31 days was the focus of this case early on by the media. I'd like to know if a PJ remembers that or not.

I just don't believe she was abused by her dad or Lee. I don't really like GA - but I don't think he is that tye of man.

I am really really afraid she will say who Caylee's father is and that it may be a friend of her dad's or an uncle. THAT to me would be a game changer. MO nto that she should not pay for her crime but the jurors would be sympathetic to her mental issues.
I truly don't believe she was sexually abused by GA or LA.

But as I read your post, a thought came to me. Wonder if she is going to claim she was sexually abused and/or raped and that's how Caylee was conceived. She told CA and GA and they didn't care and made her have the child anyway.

hhhmmmm.............................. would she have to then name the father? hhhmmmm.............................

I think Hizhonor plans to work tomorrow. Possibly to move the jurors to Orlando on Monday and get them settled....

Up to twenty strikes can be made without cause...so this is far from over...

Let's move the discussion about "alleged" abuse out of the Jury Thread. I am sure we have a thread on this for extensive discussion. When I get a moment, I'll bump it up.

With a great difficulty - I am keeping my cup half full!!!:great:

When you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are - when you wish upon a star, your dreams come true...quoted from Jiminy Cricket in Pinnochio - and aren't you lucky you didn't have to hear me sing that!

Judge - have you formed any opinons as to Ms. Anthony's guilt or innocence?
PJ - no.
