2020 Hurricane Season Starting Early, "High Activity" Expected This Year

Time to phone a friend who is north of you. Make a plan to go. Water kills way more than people expect.

Gulf Coast on alert: Where Cristobal may make landfall in the US
Gulf Coast on alert: Where Cristobal may make landfall in the US - CNN

"The highest winds, greatest storm surge and heaviest rain may occur east of where Cristobal makes landfall, so not only is the Louisiana coast at risk but also Mississippi, Alabama and well into the Florida Panhandle," he added.

People don’t realize how quick water can cut you off from your evacuation route.

I’ve heard it many times, “our house isn’t flooded, we are fine” and two days later they are freaking because all the roads around them are flooded. And they can’t get to Dollar General to get cigs, diapers or ice.

Plan ahead peeps!

I’ve lived in a landlocked state my whole life but even after all these years still remember visiting my dad in Florida after Hurricane Andrew hit.

Would appreciate if members could “check in” when they can, using this thread, if you are in any of these upcoming storms’ paths so that we know you’re okay.

My dad is VP of one of the largest US insurance companies and is tasked with running its catastrophe division. Talked with him yesterday and he already has multiple suitcases packed and has hired someone to take care of his house because he expects to be “on the road” for most of this year dealing with all of the post hurricane clean up efforts :(
wow - an admirable job for sure. I've started my prep but missed out on the sales tax holiday for buying my batteries - that's about all I have left to do now. I'm worried about Covid but do not plan to leave my house - I'm far enough inland that I haven't had to ... yet.

Pretty sure that storm surge prediction of 2-4” is supposed to be 2-4’. I hope everyone in the low lying areas has made it to higher ground. Here in SWFL, we have the outer tail bands moving thru. I am not in a flood zone or even an evacuation zone but yet I have standing water in my yard. There is a small swell in my backyard which helps drain water. The land behind me has a wetland with a pond and canal. My front yard is slightly sloped to the street and I have soil sliding down to the sidewalk. It is supposed to rain for the next week.

Cristobal strengthens to Tropical Storm, should make landfall Sunday

As far as tropical storms go, the U.S. impact from Cristobal shouldn't be that significant. There will be 2-4 inches of storm surge across southeastern Louisiana and coastal Mississippi.

Areas east of there through the northern half of the east coast of Florida will see 1-2 inches of surge.

Because the storm is quite large in size, it will bring widespread 3-6 inches of rain with some spots up to 10 inches from north Florida through coastal and just inland Alabama and Mississippi. This will cause some very localized flooding.

Hi friends......sitting here in southern Louisiana with a hot, sunny afternoon.....
however I look at the cone of Cristobal and see that it has a straight line through my area. Will let you know what happens. Hugs. Lato

I am upper central Florida, 1 hr or so SW of Jacksonville, FL. Mostly lots of rain. I like the sound of rain (formerly from Michigan and Colorado). It is good to see all of you but not so for the reason we all gather here. Take care. Be safe. Kat

Not unexpected but still sad.

Tropical Storm Cristobal spawns damaging tornado in Orlando; Louisiana brothers, 8 and 10, killed in rip current

A tornado touched down Saturday evening near downtown Orlando, causing some damage and just missing a group of protesters at Lake Eola at around 7:30 p.m.

In Louisiana, two brothers were killed Friday night getting caught in an undertow and swept away by a rip current as Cristobal churned in the Gulf of Mexico.

The children, ages 8 and 10, were swimming at a beach in Grand Isle when they were caught and swept away, FOX8 reported.

That one was devastating and it’s very sweet you want WS members to check in - we had a tornado touch down last night so I’m afraid this season is going to be bad-this on top of Covid !

A couple hours ago.

Visible satellite loop ending 12:27pm EDT
#Cristobal is bringing rains from Louisiana to Florida, and will make landfall tonight. The primary hazards are expected to be storm surge flooding and potential inland flash or river flooding in spots. The storm does not appear to have enough time to tighten up and generate winds greater than ~50 mph.

Southern Louisiana.....Hi friends.....rain has made a little lake of the front lawn. Have spent hours watching weather channel. Am amazed at the weather in Florida and the Gulf Coast. Will let you know if anything happens overnight. Fingers crossed that electricity holds. Hugs, LATO

What was so important that they needed to go out an inlet, with an incoming storm that was known to have 3-4’ surge, in a 20’ boat?!?! I’m baffled.

Cristobal brings flooding along Gulf Coast, Coast Guard searching for 2 missing boaters

The Coast Guard said in a news release that Ted Roach and Jennifer Lingoni left Salt Bayou near Slidell, La., at 1 p.m. Sunday on a 20-foot yellow skiff and were scheduled to be back at approximately 1:30 p.m.

Hi.....a most unusual tropical storm for us. Lots of rain and some flooding to the east of me. The dog thinks that he has three small pools in the yard. But the most amazing thing....did not lose electricity...!!! And, the sun is out....
Thanks to all of you who think of me......Hugs, Lato
