Thank you so much for this information. I have refused to donate to the Red Cross because of their past practices. Now perhaps I will mark the usage for a donation. I plan to donate to the Doctors without Borders.
Smart Blonde did you get an answer to your post concerning the prisoners? I'm thinking many may not be with us any longer as the building collapsed. I hope so anyway.
I was involved with red cross for 9/11 for many months and after I realized that they designate monies wherever they see fit. SAYING: "This was a donation to the Red Cross, it is not written that it is for 9/11".
I begun to tell people to PLEASE write on the check what they are donating for. I realized early on that
if it is not written they can designate it to Palestinians. (just saying - and maybe they did

)
PS: I got a medal from them but I sent it back to them, I did not want a medal, or an honorary certificate.
But I am happy I did what I could during those hard times.
I will never donate through them, or work with them again. I did send through the white house, and want to check out Doctors Without Boarders. I do not know very much about them.
This made me sick too: A very rich woman went to Bed Bath and Beyond and bought about 20 good blankets for those who were left homeless. The director opened one and said to me, these are too good for homeless people, here take these 2 for you. I knew if I don't take, someone else will so I took 2 but I gave them to my cleaning girl she had 2 kids and she was very poor. by the next morning there were no blankets they were given out to whomever she felt like giving them to. That rich women would have done better if she took those blankets to the street or shelters by herself, she arrived with her driver, who could have driven all that elsewhere.

On one of my missions I had to go to shelters to see that the people who had to evacuate, had food, and whatever they needed. I have to tell you my heart cried and I wished I could have brought all those blankets to them.
