KHON2 (in Hawaii) reports someone walking on the beach. Calls them idiotic. Says that maybe they have no TV or daio, no computer or Net access or common sense <g>

Some reporter, he kept on saying tidal wave...

We are having bad rainy weather in in Orange County today. I am watching the harbor activity from my house and it is gray and dirty and pouring rain.
This is good because generally people are not at the beach today anyway.

Stupid people in California:

But rather than run for the hills, curious onlookers instead headed down to the shoreline to see whether or not the tsunami would touch down here. “If we can see something, I want the kids to be able to see the effect of something that happened thousands of miles away,” said Jim Semick, of Santa Barbara, who was near the base of Stearns Wharf overlooking the ocean with two seven-year-olds, Sean and Drew.'

Tsunami center in Honolulu saying it looks like this may be less of an event than they previously thought, but can't cancel tsunami warning yet.

We had a few hurricanes growing up in coastal Ga and for every one, that I remember, there were "hurricane parties" on the beach...yeah, I guess the stupidity is everywhere.

Homes being looted, officers have at least 1 suspect, others being tracked.

Idiots. The bad guys, not the cops.

Breaking news that Long Beach Ca is on alert for a Sunami. Long Beach has seen the water receeding out leaving seaweed everywhere...water is starting to rise but very slowly. Very unusual for LA HARBOR.

Oklahoma just had a 4.4 quake, too. So that's Argentina and Oklahoma having quakes within hours of the Chile quake.

I think I'll double check my quake supplies...

Here is a really good site that I found during Haiti. There was a 6.3 in Argentina today, from what I have heard the Argentina quake is being treated as a separate quake and not an aftershock.

I bookmarked this site and find myself calling it up once a week or so.

I got an email alert on my CA earthquake alert within 30 minutes of the Chile quake. It was in central CA. I posted it somewhere earler in the thread. I am freshening my supplies up as well.

Tsunami surge brings spectators, little damage to L.A. beaches

Waves generated from a tsunami hit the Southern California coast Saturday afternoon -- with little damage or drama.
While hundreds of people went to local beaches to watch the surge, the waves were difficult to detect for many.
The National Weather Service said there was a 2.2-foot surge in Santa Monica and a 3-foot surge in Ventura. The Ventura County Sheriff's Department reported minor damage at Ventura Harbor from several buoys washing away.
