Found this picture of Sam from what I believe is her drivers license. Couldn't seem to find a bigger one, but I wanted to share it because she looks SO different in it.

She really is a very beautiful girl. This picture reminds me of Kate Winslet.

Sorry to quote myself (hehe) but I keep coming back to this this afternoon. She left a note for the opening barista. Unless this was very well planned out I don't believe it was staged. I am trying to walk myself through her last hour (minutes?) at the stand. She closed up the windows (8:00 pm closing time), made two cups of coffee (could have been done earlier but I would think they would get cold), wrote a note to opener, got call from boyfriend stating he would be late (IIRC, this was stated to be the reason he spoke to her, can't find a source now so purely me), then was abducted. These things had to have happened very close together since LE states she was abducted at roughly 8:00 pm. I would think they would have stated 8:30, or even 8:15 if it was closer to either of those times.

I just can't wrap my brain around why she let someone in the stand. The only alternative I can think of is she left to take out the trash, and was abducted at that point? My brain hurts :)

Not to worsen your headache, but:

"It looked like, in the middle of (making) a drink, she just left," Ornelas said

Makes it sound like she wasn't completely done making the coffee when whatever happened happened.........

I've been thinking the same thing.. First I thought maybe the note was part of the staging, to make it look more real, but it just doesn't sit well for some reason.
I think maybe someone was waiting for her outside to take out the trash (maybe hiding on the other side of the hut, out of camera view) and then followed her back in before the door closed. I think the guy HAD to be inside the hut at some point, since the owners report both that the camera had been obstructed (which we can only assume was the inside camera) and that the (outside) camera had picked up a truck with a person in it sitting 50 feet away.
OR I guess the outside camera could have recorded the truck, but been obstructed after they came outside, before they walked away?
My brain hurts too :(

I definitely hear "them" instead of her as well.

It's hard to say- You can imagine at that point he had likely had no sleep, and was a complete "mess." ;) But it sure seems...strange.. especially when paired with all the other random things he has said on camera.

Southern comfort, I took the mess just as you did.

I agree with Southern on this too...I think he meant the situation, not the hut.

This is picture from the very first article they put out.

That always seemed strange to me, too. Why wouldn't they get a more recent picture of her from her dad, or bf, to put with the article??

I'm starting to really believe that we are missing a huge puzzle piece here regarding what was going on when Sam was taken. Her boyfriend had spoken to her minutes before, and didn't call the cops that night at all. LE won't release the video, yet they don't seem to know who the guy on it is.

Maybe some "business" was going on at the coffee shop, maybe the bf knew about it, and didn't want Sam, or himself to get in trouble for it. Maybe her bf even knows who took her. Even if he told James or LE, maybe they can't find this guy, and don't want the publics help finding him because they're afraid of what might happen to Sam if they scare the perp.

I don't know, just my opinion. I really hope more is going on behind the scenes, so to speak, because it is not looking good with what we know.

I think the APD owes us a bottle of Excedrin, because we wouldn't be hurting ourselves if we knew whether her stuff was left or taken, did the perp knock or just walk in, in what way was the video obscured, etc.....UGH.

I do too, after reading that the windows had been boarded up like normal for closing. He couldn't have seen the inside of the hut.

The thing that bothers me is the surveillance inside the hut. The perp seems to have known about it if he obscured it, but then why come in at all? I can see the "business" inside the hut angle without a doubt, especially if you know they don't look at the video unless they have reason, but if you were gonna take her, why come in - why not grab her as she came out? Unless you knew she wasn't coming out until her bf showed up?

That, combined with the new info that she (supposedly) stole $3000 from her dad, makes me think it might have been someone she was expecting.. a meeting set up to give whoever back the $$ but then things went bad. Either because it wasn't enough, or the guy just decided to have some fun with her.. who knows.

I agree. Sadly, I think there is a lot more to the story than we are getting, and I think APD has other priorities. I think there are drugs and/or gangs involved, and I think LE is keeping info close to their chest because they see a bigger bust happening.

This is the State Trooper Annual Drug Report for 2011, just released today. It gives you some insight as to the scope of the drug/alcohol problems up here.

I missed the part about the money ($3K)-was that from a FB page, i.e. a rumor at this point? (If true, it does put some new spin on things, but I will be darned if I know in what way...)

There have been far too many rumors posted already in this case, and it's going to stop right now. If you can link it to MSM, you can post it. If not, forget it.

Thank you Bessie. I didn't know if that website was considered MSM or not, I couldn't find a reference anywhere and it (the link) didn't show up as stars so I thought it was ok.

I have been reading through these posts since near the beginning of this debacle but have kept quiet as I didn't really feel I had much to add. A few observations/opinions that might help.
First (and I cannot find the link- sorry), at one point a former coworker (I believe from HoH) noted that there was no way this was staged. That Sam would never leave her dog. This struck home with me. In my work, I get to observe the relationship between people and their pets. You would be surprised at how attached people become to their pets- especially if they have had trouble in their lives. Pets offer non-judgemental support and the fact that this coworker felt strongly enough to mention this speaks volumes. Second: I think from the news reports, etc. that Sam was surrounded (at least at times) by people that were trouble. I won't go into the rumors. But I think this has been established (and fwiw, Anchorage does have quite the seamy underbelly). Third, in case it has not been said already: the window to the door of that coffee shack is big. Like almost half the door big. When I saw it last, I didn't notice a curtain or any type of mechanism that would board it over at night (but maybe it just wasn't up)-- my point being that it was a bad storm the night Sam disappeared. Someone could likely see in just fine, but her ability to see much outside may have been compromised.
IMO: This wasn't faked, she likely knew the person who took her, the person either waited for her to take the trash out or actually knocked- maybe she let him in (and maybe she expected this person...from the "them" slip up from her BF). Not sure about the obscured cameras, but I think she was seen to react in a surprised/afraid manner and was then abducted.
I think that there is way more to this story than we know. I am made hopeful by JKs remarks that seem to indicate he has reason to believe she is alive. I hope this is the case. Keep hoping for a positive development. What I don't understand is why, if this is potentially about drugs/money owed, is why the reward $ hasn't brought her back. Though perhaps she has seen all of them...and can id them.

It's all right, ryanemsmom. I wasn't targeting your post specifically. The rumors had gotten out of hand long before you posted, even after numerous warnings. We have to get back on track here.

IMO, she had her phone on her, in her pocket, when she was taken. If it was in her purse, or left with her belongings, I would think the first thing the opening barista would've done is pick up the phone, find the contact # for her dad or Duane and call them and ask why her stuff was here and to make sure everything was ok. If a purse was left behind, you know they opened it to look for a phone.
I think in either scenerio, whether she was taken, or left with someone she knew, she had the phone until the abductor made her hand it over and then got rid of it. (Or IF she left on her own, she got rid of it herself so she couldn't be tracked.)
I don't know any teenager who doesn't have their phone in their pocket at all times..

Good point AK81. How many of these cubby places does this hut have for the workers to put their personal items? It is not like they have a locker room where every employee can place their personal items in their own personal locker and no one would ever know if someone left their items behind. The person opening in the morning had to put their coat, purse, ect somewhere and most likely on top of Sam's items if they were left behind.

On top of the strange things like the place being a mess, the cups of coffee left on the counter (which I think she was making a cup for her and Duane to take with them when he arrived), the alarm not being set, wouldn't you think the opening person would have found it really strange if she noticed Sam's coat, purse, ect were left behind in the cubby? That should have raised a RED flag I would think.

ETA: The opening person gave all kinds of details as to what she found. If the items were left behind don't you think she would have also said that in her interview.

Also on some missing posters they were showing a Harley Davidson purse with leopard stripes. Why show what kind of purse she might of had if the purse was found left behind in the hut? I think she took her stuff with her which would mean that her phone was likely with her also.

Any reporters reading this? GO do some investigating and ask LE, the person who opened the hut that morning or JK what was left behind in the hut and if her phone has ever been found. If LE won't tell you then let us know. Publish your finding in the paper, no need to post is here, we will find it in the article you write, we are really good at things like that. TIA
