I think we have to all remember that this story was not released by LE. We have no evidence that DW ever spoke to the media. All the MSM stories, including the early live videos, say "The family reports..." "The family says that the friend said..."

DW may have told this to JDT in confidence, not expecting her to post it on social media and start discussion groups to pick it apart. He may have seriously watered down or papered over things that he did not feel comfortable disclosing to a missing woman's ex's mother. He may have told LE a completely different story and we're here analyzing a game of telephone.

Another thought: DW may know very well that DNV was meeting up with unsavory characters and he realizes if they knew he was Car 1 and he was talking to LE, his own life could be in danger. There may be a very good reason LE and MSM have never released his name, and the media has not interviewed him (or complained about not being able to interview him). Constantly posting on social media that witnesses should "come forward" like they owe the peanut gallery an explanation for anything is excruciating to watch.

Couldn’t have said it better.

In thred 2 I saw a post about a well connected older man being mentioned in Thred 1 on page 43. In finding nothing regarding that topic so can anyone highlight that for me. I bring that up because Mobile is still an old money town. Certain names cover certain names etc. if you doubt it look up the Steve Nodine trial. All sorts of crazy.
The 10 grand mentioned is pretty crazy to me. I worked downtown as a bartender in Mobile and yes there were without a doubt some amazing nights but between bills etc it would have taken me years to save that much as a single mom, and I worked in one of the most popular establishments in Mobile and was considered really good at what I did. With that being said I did get involved with some higher profile men in the Mobile scene and the stories they told left no questions as to how they cover for each other. However I have not seen any of those names connected back to DV yet and have not gotten the impression that the guys mentioned were connected back to that community either.
Finally towing cars in Mobile is an interesting thing. If the city impound is busy then a private company can tow the vehicle to their own private yard. In some situations that’s literally someone’s backyard and they are able to hold your car until you pay the fees. Also her phone being found outside on a car isn’t all that strange to me with adults out drinking together. I once found a waitress apron, with all of her tips and book tucked in the back of my jeeps outer tire because the waitress stuck it there while we were drunk. It’s something that can totally happen when your brain is impaired.

I checked page 43 of thread 1 and can’t find anything about that but if I’m very interested- anyway you can link to the page with that info?

Thanks for such a complete local picture of Mobile.

You also bring up some great points about the money to buy car and towing cars in Mobile. We talked alot on an earlier thread about where the money might have come from for the car. DNV supposedly owned a previous Chevy Cruze that was crashed by someone else (believed to be TT) that might have gotten her some insurance money and she had also had a baby in June 2018 that was given up for adoption and this might have resulted in a sizable cash payment as well. By all accounts she was back to working double shifts 2 weeks after giving birth so she was a very hard worker too.

The towing situation in Mobile as you mentioned is interesting too. I've been tracking the cars going to auction to see if DNV car pops up and it hasn't so far so I hope MPD has a BOLO out for car (sadly this has never been confirmed by MPD) and is searching impound lots and independent contractors like you described.

This case is unlike any missing persons case I've seen as there have been next to no searches of locations around the missing site, waterways and rivers, downtown parking garages etc. with the exception of the Dykes house related to JCD arrest. No mention has been made as to whether the Mobile 'family' or friends ever checked local hospitals weekly and impound lots. My guess is that because none of this searching seems to have ever happened that MPD might know who abducted DNV but perhaps don't know where she was taken or her body disposed of. Just a guess but the lack of activity on the ground seach side of a missing case leads me to believe something else is going on here as no police department could be so inept IMO. I'm not sure why local friends and Mobile 'family' haven't mobilized for some simple searching around the Shell site or downtown parking decks? Individuals can do alot in terms of searching but in this case nothing ever seems to happen and I truly don't know why?

The older guy theory for lack of a better phrase has been kicked around but with no specific references to Old Mobile names. None of the named players in this saga so far appear to be Old Mobile. Some believe there is an older Old Mobile type in the background of this case and that they might be the father of DNV baby but this is pure speculation at this point. Nothing LE has described indicates so far even hints at the prescence of Old Mobile here. My guess is that Old Mobile person is pure rumor which could have been developed to take focus away from people closer to DNV in the investigation IMO.

Frankly this case has been hugely hurt by the closed FB groups that don't have any reporting standards and have been a source of ongoing gossip and theories unsubstantiated by LE or MSM. Frankly my take is that one of the reason DW has been so vilified by the FB crowd is that he was older than DNV, had a salary and a house. He doesn't seem by any means wealthy in an old money sense but he might have had more money than the crowd DNV worked with or the FB posters themselves so he has been attacked repeatedly as the slighly sleezy rich guy that liked to party with younger women.

That’s literally how Mobile police handle almost all of their missing person cases. Unless it’s a child involved.

Good morning guys! Let’s hope for some answers today. Something. Anything that’s helps us to get closure for DV’s little girl, if anything else.

One explanation for the money is that DNVs previous car was totaled, the money could be attributed to a payoff from the insurance company. Just a thought.

We've all heard the phrase "the best way to hide something is in plain sight". What could have been looked over? Maybe a good idea to start from the basics with the facts and forget the "facts" we've heard.

That is one of the HUGE problems with this case. Facts are very very few.

Facts:
DNV bought a new car
DNV took the night off to celebrate with friends
DNV was at Dublin's
DNV was at the Shell Station
DNVs GPS shut off
DNVs car leaves Shell
DNV was wearing a Mellow Mushroom Shirt

Not Facts but hearsay from "friends" or family:
DNV was at Hero's
DNV hung out with RC at Hero's
DNV was with MK and DW at Dublin's
DNV left phone at Dublin's
DNV followed DW
DNV flashed DW
DW went to Dublins to search for phone
DW thought DNV was following him
DW retrieved phone
DW waited for DNV
DW went to Ollie's
DW turned in rental car
DW went home
TT was in Jail
TT was in Rehab
TT was in a facility
etc and etc and etc ......

She would need to have gap insurance to cover what she still owed on the previous car and what the blue book value is. Does anyone know if she was making payments on her other car? The only way she would have received that large amount of money for previous car is if it was totally paid off and she had insurance for the whole value of the car (and it was a newer model). Cars depreciate a bunch the minute you drive it off a car lot.

Or she got insurance money from an accident someone else caused

Its actually one of the worst showings I've seen in a long time on a missing case. I am almost getting the feeling that MPD is simply waiting for DNV to drive up in her purple/blue Chevy Cruze and say "I'M HOME, YA'LL"!

Thank you for refocusing the discussion. So much unproductive time IMO has been spent dissecting unsubstantiated gossip from Closed FB Groups with unknown agendas. It was hugely disappointing that JV chose to use a Closed FB group as a platform for discussion as it would have been wonderful to hear directly from the mother of missing DNV here on WS.

Since no news is forthcoming from LE or MSM maybe the best course is to use social media to ask the MPD why there has been no press conference update, why the Chief's original 30 min PC has been reduced to 1.5 min on MPD facebook page, why media links have been disconnected and the google search results scrambled in this case and why have there been no physical searches that have involved the public or been conducted by MPD? MPD clearly isn't treating this case as a missing case as none of the usual protocols have been followed. The press have stopped asking questions or investigating (none was ever done so far as I've seen which is profoundly sad) so I really feel that they should be asked on social media why they aren't asking MPD for a status update on the case or doing some digging on their own?

Two months have passed with no named suspects, nobody cleared publicly by MPD, and no POI? Have the police even checked the hospitals or impound lots for the car? Can the public help to search? Have water searches looking for the car been conducted by air or drone? Why no outside help if the skills don't exist to solve this case in house? There has been no visible action on the group on this case since MPD went and raided JCD house?

We've had a Mobile "family" that is no blood relation to DNV raid her apartment and confiscate her belongings and cash as well as take control of her social media? How is MPD Ok with this happening? Where is the advocacy for the rights of the missing DNV?

There are both basic and serious questions that haven't been answered by MPD for whatever reason and at some level the buck stops with MPD. To spend time on this thread playing telephone with a group of people in 2 closed FB group that clearly don't know what they are doing, have questionable motives and methods and seem to be simply trading in poor quality gossip is something that makes little sense to me so please I encourage people to "Stop the Insanity" and don't bring that stuff to this thread.

It may have been removed, but over yonder when the sharks were circling him about his job and the possibility of human trafficking, Le ding dongs posted in the comments news articles about his work concerning an unrelated topic that named him. It’s a travesty

Yes, insurance money makes sense but she also probably got money if she did a private adoption of the baby. My speculation is that her buying car resulted in friction within the family as alot of cash was needed to pay off TT related legal obligations or he was headed to prison due to repeated drug offenses. There is a reason for no clarification of TT situation and I go back to the old adage that 'no answer is an answer'. So far as what is visible DNV was only working member with cash in this Mobile 'family'. TT appears virtually unemployable and the rest look either retired or do occassional odd jobs. Coming up with a good chunk of cash would have been a challenge.

Okay- building from @3dzer0's post

LE gave a press conference on 08/02/18. (I believe this is the approx. 30 min. PC that has been asked about a couple of times. The video itself is about 30 min., but the PC is less than 10 min.)

Notes on PC content
At 17:49- reporter asks LE to expand on his comment regarding an infant child. He says 4 months, but corrects it to 4 years. Possible slip referencing newborn?

At 18:40- reference to people go missing because they want to go missing and just don't want to be found at the time.

Around 22:00- they've had good cooperation from people and some not so good cooperation. No elaboration of not so good cooperation.

Around 23:00- no evidence of foul play at the time.

Around 23:45- reporter asks when in the convenience store, did she use a debit card. LE says as part of the investigation, they would not release that information.

Around 24:00- reporter asks if LE feels she's missing at her own will. Responds that it has happened before, but they just want her or whoever is associated with her disappearance or someone who knows something to come forward. Does not want to say anything specifically because he does not know.

Around 25:00- reporter asks about cell phone activity. LE can't release that information to maintain the integrity of the investigation.

FACTS
  • DNV was occupying 2014 Chevrolet Cruz with a green and white Pearl Motors tag. (Confirmed via Pearl Motors FB page and LE's blog.)
  • Pearl Motors website states they've been in business since 1966. They finance and advertise "your credit is good at Pearl Motors". Anything confirming DNV actually bought the car, either through financing/cash, or was it just the last vehicle she was seen in? It appears all recent articles have moved away from her owning and/or driving the vehicle.
  • 07/20/18 article states Vian was last seen riding in a deep blue 2014 Chevrolet Cruz w/a Pearl Motors tag.

  • DNV took the night off to celebrate with friends. We know she was out with friends, do we know for sure she was scheduled to work that evening?
  • DNV was at Dublin's- articles/evidence to support this? I know we have the timeline, but reports all say "family members say..."

  • DNV was at the Shell Station- was the surveillance video removed because it was actually not related? Again, LE states last known whereabouts were 3500 block of Government. I don't see anything that states her vehicle ACTUALLY pinged at the Shell station- only that she was seen "on surveillance" at the Shell. Reporter states last time she was seen was on a grainy video that can't be shown. Has LE made a statement saying the Shell was the last known location?

  • DNVs GPS shut off- one report that the GPS was TURNED off. Not disabled. Not malfunctioned. This report does say they know she left Dublin Pub, stopped at the closed Shell station w/a friend in another car after realizing she left her phone, the friend left thinking she was following him back to Dublins, DNV stayed at the station for another 20 minutes with a 3rd car then both cars leave. This does seem to follow the Shell station surveillance footage.

  • DNVs car leaves Shell- see above article re: GPS.

  • DNV was wearing a dark-colored Mellow Mushroom Shirt, a light-colored hat, and black legging style pants w/a light-colored shirt tied around her waist. (Confirmed via LE's blog.)
