I don't know much about cars so hopefully someone who knows more could chime in, but wouldn't how the GPS connected to the car dash system be unique to each make and model of the car? Both of my parents' cars have built in GPS but one car has one big screen that serves as the radio/audio control, phone control, and GPS control. The other car has a separate screen that is for GPS/maps and a second screen below that's more a touch screen for radio/phone/etc. They are very different even though they are similar cars and both last year models.
I would not know how to disable the GPS in either car. I don't think most people would know how to disable a built-in GPS. It leaves me to think either the person is a mechanic/car person who would know how to quickly disable it on the spot if asked, or someone who researched it ahead of time.
