I post on a non-crime board, and one poster said he grew up in Germany and found out as an adult that his neighbors included the children and ex-wife of Albert DeSalvo (who probably didn't kill all those women as the Boston Strangler, but he did enough other stuff to get him put away for what ended up being a life sentence). The kids were told at first that their father had died in a car accident, and only got the truth as adults.
