My DH and DS are both diagnosed AD/HD and both are medicated for it...DH's Mom is bi-polar with schizophrenic/psychosis..sooo when we were testing DS for ad/hd, they also tested for bi-polar/schizo, because it is hereditary..thank God it turned out to be AD/HD..but I do have to take care of things for MIL and I have tried to learn as much as I can about it her mental illnesses..
If if if if Britney is bi-polar, which it has been stated that she has been diagnosed..then the doctor that put her on Adderall has failed her completely...stimulants are poison to someone that is bi-polar...if this is the case then it explains alot...
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I can't tell you how much I agree with you! A Stimulant is one of the worst medications you can put someone with Bipolar disorder on.. the other one being
only an anti-depressent! These are the biggest dangers when a person has Bipolar disorder that remains misdiagnosed.
What is even worse is that they are now finding that some of the kids that
used to be diagnosed with ADD/ADHD were actually mis-diagnosed because back then they did not diagnose Bipolar in children as they do now so they have been on the wrong meds all along.
Although Brit's recent behavior points toward Bipolar I am not yet convinced that is the case. A Bipolar mania is
neurological yet she seems to have dramatic
physical symptoms not associated with mania such as dialated pupils, staggering, slurring of words, rapid weight gain then weight loss, sudden onset of acne.. not to mention that the girl has yet to "crash".
Trust me, ya'll, a mania does not last forever, if it did, those of us with Bipolar would never seek help! By now this girl would have come down, fallen into a depression deeper than most people could imagine. She'd have stopped showering and doing her hair and nails, she'd stop going out at night, she would have disappeared from the public eye and would be holed up someplace (probably her mothers house) in her own private hell. With what she is going through in her personal life she probably would have attempted suicide by now.
I think she should be taken off the drugs (prescribed or not) and alcohol first to be certain she is getting a proper diagnosis! People are so quick to point at mental illness now'days and we are tossed on more and more drugs (presciptions) to "fix" us when sometimes that's whats causing the problems to begin with!
I have been on the same meds (different strengths) for about 10 years with the exception of the benzodiazepine, Klonopin. Yet until about 5 years ago when Klonopin was removed from my cocktail I remained
unstable. Going off of the one medication made all the difference in the world! Benzodiazepines, in some cases can cause manic-
like symptoms. So can Appetite suppressants, cold medicines, amphetamines, cocaine, stimulants.
I self medicated for many years and I'll tell ya something, Nyquil is a
great medicine for a pill junkie to have in the house "in case of emergency". I'd do shots of it if I ran out of options... I can still
feel the buzz it gave me, the tightness in the side of my jaw and everything.
So, again, although Brit may not have had any illegal drugs in her system, I am not convinced that she is not a actively using addict, therefore I also cannot be convinced she has Bipolar disorder.
