Definitely impulsive.

I do think it was impulsive if she did choose suicide.

“Anywhere from one-third to 80% of all suicide attempts are impulsive acts, according to The New England Journal of Medicine. 24% of those who made near-lethal suicide attempts decided to kill themselves less than five minutes before the attempt, and 70% made the decision within an hour of the attempt.”

http://www.businessinsider.com/many-suicides-are-based-on-an-impulsive-decision-2014-8

“Many people who attempt suicide do so impulsively. Extremely impulsively.

One study of people who attempted suicide found that 48% thought of suicide for fewer than 10 minutes before making the suicide attempt.”

Alcohol and suicide:
http://www.mces.org/pages/suicide_fact_alcohol.php

“Facts About Alcohol & Suicide

What’s the problem?
Alcohol is involved over a quarter of all suicides in the US (approximately 7500 per year).
Suicide is 120 times more prevalent among adult alcoholics than in the general population.
Alcohol abusers have higher rates of both attempted and completed suicide than non-abusers.
More than one-third of suicide victims used alcohol just prior to death.
How is alcohol use related to suicidal risk?
Alcohol increases impulsivity and decreases inhibition. It increases negative self-image and decreases self-esteem; deepens depression and social isolation; and rises with the amount and length of time alcohol is consumed. Alcohol use fosters either/or and all or nothing thinking, and a lower concern for the future consequences of one’s actions. Many suicide attempts occur during binge drinking.”

If she died by suicide, I think she used the balcony table to step on (alleged footprint), sat on the balcony railing (FBI evidence of someone sitting there when no one else with access to the balcony is missing) and hopped on over.

In this theory, Ron rouses briefly from sleep either hearing the table scrape on the balcony floor, or hearing her yell or of her hitting a lifeboat below. He doesn’t recognize the sound and falls back asleep.

In this theory when he does wake and doesn’t find her, he panics because deep down inside he knows it was permanent what happened to her... on a subconscious level. Immediate panic commences...

Later on, he is throwing up blood with realizing she is really and truly gone...

If she died by falling over the balcony, I think:

A) she was nauseated and turned to go inside the cabin to throw up in the bathroom. She opens the door a bit and remembers that they woke Ron up when they came in, and the puke is rising in her throat, so she turns around to go puke over the balcony.

She doesn’t want to puke on the glass and have it run down on the outside and have to be cleaned by the steward, so she tippy toes and really leans over far to puke and get a clear miss of the balcony glass. She passes out and because she is dead weight with her heavy head (we all have heavy heads) hanging over, her thin and tall (college basketball player) body follows and off she goes, unconscious.

B) she wants to take photos of Curacao in the daybreak, so she goes in the cabin and gets her camera and doesn’t close the balcony door all the way. She is drunk so sits on the balcony, holding on to the balcony divider thinking it was solid support. She loses balance and falls over. (Was her camera found in the cabin?)

I lived in the Florida Keys for a long time, and more people fall off of boats and docks than you can imagine.

It wasn't uncommon to be 25 miles offshore fishing and come across a ghost boat; a vessel with no souls aboard. Either washed overboard by heavy seas, or else one person falls in and the only other person aboard jumps in to save them, only to find that the 7mph current (sometimes even faster) there between the Keys and Cuba has already pulled their boat far away from them - they cannot swim fast enough to catch it, and so perish in the sea.

Often we'd find empty makeshift innertube rafts or the like which were used by Cubans trying to cross the Gulf Stream/Florida Straights - most likely the occupants had fallen off, or maybe jumped into the water (dehydration will make you do crazy thongs). The Coast Guard would sink the rafts after they recovered the occupants aboard, so that these were still floating means most likely the immigrants had perished. It is possible that they were picked up by a passing freighter, but again, they'd usually sink the raft afterward.

All things considered, I tend to believe that Amy either fell off the ship, jumped, or was pushed. The last time I took a cruise nearly everyone was completely hammered just 2 hours after we left port! Many people were holding the railing, leaning far over it, and vomiting. I was kinda surprised that no one went over the hand rail!

Falling from height from a cruise ship into the sea would most likely result in the subject losing consciousness; in addition, injuries would tend to be severe - internal bleeding, broken ribs, fractured spine, broken limbs, etc. It's quite similar to when someone jumps from a bridge into the ocean; they lose consciousness and then drown/sink. Trying to find a person in the vast sea is very difficult, even with all of today's technology!

I completely agree.

Last year on my cruise, we came across a ghost ship and spent about 30 minutes investigating. The ship sent a tender out to look closely and they radioed authorities who released us.

Anyone who thinks it is easy to spot or rescue an overboard person has not been on the water much, if at all. Incredibly hard, the water is immense.... Immense and people are so so small. It is nearly impossible and only possible (not guaranteed) if someone saw the person go in, threw a PFD and kept a spotter on the person.

There was no MOB at the time Amy went missing from the balcony. She had no chance if she was alive when she went in.

Interesting comment from Amy’s mother posted several weeks ago...

All my FB friends and family, Please share and ask others to share. The FBI has put this on their website, FB page, twitter and instagram and are targeting the Islands, South/Central America, etc. We are praying for information to find Amy.

The fbi is targeting islands and south/central America regarding amy or in general? Can you provide a link with more context? Preferably a link to the FBI website where it shares this info. TIA.

I don’t think so unless it’s a “help find” type of page.

FWIW the VI had stated that Amy’s handlers read websleuths. Sooo maybe we should all be cautious of what we post. Wouldn’t want to tip them off iykwim.

See. I planned mine all out so I wouldn’t be found and saved. If I am going to commit suicide I am going to complete it. Jumping off a cruise ship leaves too much to chance. But, you work with what you got I guess.

The comment says to share....share means share, no? It’s from her public page. She obviously wants the word out there.

I don’t think we are allowed to sleuth family members of any case, but your best bet is to confirm with a mod.
