UPDATE: We spoke with Barbara's husband Jack tonight (Monday). He says Barbara has dementia. He had checked her into the assisted living facility for respite care just a few hours before her disappearance. He says it's possible someone picked her up. Their 52nd wedding anniversary was yesterday. He's desperate for answers but not giving up hope.

I can't imagine. Are there cameras outside the facility or on surrounding buildings?

We continue to ask that residents do not conduct searches for missing Barbara Doyle. We are working hard to search in the most effective, methodical way and public interference could jeopardize these efforts. In addition, we do not want anyone getting injured or lost while searching.
Also, the Bella Vista Police Department is not affiliated in any way with the reward offered by the family through a private donor.
Thank you for your understanding.

I didn’t realize it was in the Ozarks. Beautiful country. My folks are from there. I was diagnosed with early onset dementia and Alzheimer’s just a bit over a year ago. I work tirelessly trying to slow the process - brain puzzles, games, organizing, scrapbooking and working and playing in my favorite of all - WS. I do have much trouble with short term memory. I lose and misplace things all the time. All the time. I get so frustrated when scrapping cause I lose the damn scissors ten times a day. I think of something I need to do in another room and can’t remember what once I go to that room. I cry a lot when I lose things. I’ll be in a conversation with my family and suddenly I can’t remember my words and I get flustered and cry some more. It drives me crazy. I keep fighting it. I’m way too young. I’m only 65. The doctors say the combination from the brain damage I suffered in a massive right brain stroke may be why it’s appearing so early.

I don’t want to derail the thread and take the focus off of Barbara, but I just wanted to say I’m sorry you are going through this. I am the same age as you, so I feel great empathy. Regarding the scissors frustration, would buying multiples of it help? My kids were always misplacing scissors when they were young, so I kept a whole bunch of them to avoid a lot of frustration.

As for this case, looking at the Google map of the surrounding area, it looks like it’d be hard to find her if she were incapacitated in what appears to be large wooded areas. Heartbreaking.

“The main thrust is to get new information out about Barbara," Jack Doyle said. "We are hoping with the new development -- the reward -- leads to finding her."

Anyone with information can contact police at (479) 855-3771.

The Police Department, in a Facebook post Thursday, asked residents not to conduct their own searches for Barbara Doyle.

"We are working hard to search in the most effective, methodical way and public interference could jeopardize these efforts," the post stated. "In addition, we do not want anyone getting injured or lost while searching."

The department also stated it is not affiliated in any way with the reward offered through the family by the private donor.

Anonymous Donor Offers $10,000 For Safe Return of Woman Who Walked Away From Assisted Living Facility

Aug 20
Authorities are still searching for Barbara Doyle, 74, after wandering away from an assisted living facility that she was admitted to earlier that day.

Doyle may have dementia, and her family reportedly said she has wondered off in the past, but always staying near major roadways. A multi-agency search expanded to six miles beyond Brookfield Assisted Living has not yet turned up leads about Doyle’s disappearance.

It is unclear from the report if Doyle had resistance to being admitted to the facility.
