Would you mind sharing the body language moves you reference? Interesting
There were a host of them, some more subtle and difficult to read than others, but the most basic one that you see him doing -only after those two sentences about Trevor is the quick visual check to gauge if the lie was accepted or not. One might think the natural thing a liar would do is to look away, avoid eye contact, but it's not so in a high stakes lie.
When a person is lying and especially if the lie is high stakes to them, in other words when it's pretty important to the liar that his/her lie be fully believed by the listener, they will tell the lie and then IMMEDIATELY upon finishing the sentence - they will dart a very focused intent look at the listeners face, into their eyes and then hold it a moment... This is an instinctual physical response in that they're intently needing to learn whether or not that deception was successful or not. Did the person hear and believe them? If not, do they need to embellish further? It's hard to explain well in writing, but if you re-watch the tape after those two lines about trevor were spoken, you can see the difference in his NEED to see if the lie was bought or not versus his other lines spoken to the reporter. There is a very fast but very focused darting look. It's urgent to the liar at that moment to know how the lie is being received. There's no thought behind it, it's instinct.
A very professional high level liar will know all this (and other telltale body language clues) and compensate for it. But AL demonstrates no signs of being a proficient liar. Additionally, there is another body sign - the brow is lifted during the lie, it's pulled up and held higher, sometimes the higher the lift (seen by the horizontal furrows depending on age/skin etc) the bigger the lie. Again that depends on the level of sophistication about it - you can often see this from politicians and gauge which are the biggest lies.
There are many more but the eyeball to eyeball fast check/scan to see if the lie has worked was really evident in the news clip on the Trevor material. Hope that makes sense. I had occasion to have to study and learn these things, which has come in useful in many life circumstances!
