Maybe some of the younger children are sensing a way out of this ? That is, if one of them called DHS , asking for help.
It's chilling to think that the facade of a "big, happy family" could be hiding more abuse. Certainly I think those kids are being controlled. What if they're being punished too harshly ; and one of the kids called on May 27, asking to be taken out of the home ?
Might the social worker have been trying to respond to reports of bruises ? All of that modest clothing can conceal marks.
Sounds far fetched , but there are some who know how to put bruises where they won't show.

Good point. With all the talk on this thread, I automatically think they are covering something related to molestation and wondering why the heck after 12 yrs?? But if they're spanking babies with spoons as infants, then I would imagine the physical punishment gets harsher as they grow older. You could very well be right.

Hey Schmae, I don't mean to call you out or anything, "live and let live" is my motto, but any time I hear this I have to respond with this:

As long as I have enough strength in my body to crawl to the polls, I will NEVER not exercise my right to vote.

Too many men and women have sacrificed their lives for our freedoms including the right to vote, which so many people over the world do not have.

And what the suffragists went through to gain women's right to vote, OMG. Jailed and force-fed with tubes stuck down their throats to end their hunger strikes. They were so courageous.

All those ahead of me made so many sacrifices, including their lives, so that I have the privilege of the vote. I feel not voting dishonors those sacrifices.

Even when I know it's a lost cause, like when I voted for Michael Dukakis. :lol:

OT , I don't mind. In the last 3 elections I wrote in ' none of the above' . I used my vote to make a point. It is important enough to be to drive down , wait in the line and give them the all the 'no thanks' . But in the most recent election, it was electronic only and no place to write in ' none of the above' . So they're hampering my ability to vote like I want to .

I just lost all respect for Jill and Jessa too, in their interview they swore up and down that DHS commended Jim Bob and Michelle for their handling of the (what we now learned is the original) DHS situation. They failed to mention that DHS showed up a week earlier to the filiming of the interview and they refused DHS access whereby the police had to be called.

They also swore that there were no other skeletons in their closet. All these two care about is either keeping 19Kids on the air or getting a spin-off. I never want to see them on TV again.

TLC, what is taking you so long to cancel these criminals, liars and hypocrites!?!!?

I'm not defending anyone here but I wonder if the parents may not have told all the adult kids that no longer live at home, about this DHS /911 incident. **speculative**

"Well, we're, um, Washington County DHS office and we're out here to, uh, we have, uh, an investigation, and, um, I guess they're, uh, not being cooperative, and we have to see the child to make sure the child is all right. So we just need police assistance or escort," they said.

The call was transferred and it is unclear what happened next. It is also not known what was being investigated.

Duggar Family Scandal: Officials Called 911 After Visiting Home

State officials called 911 after being denied entry to the home of the "19 Kids and Counting" family just eight days after the Josh Duggar molestation scandal surfaced.

In Touch magazine reported Wednesday that a Arkansas Department of Human Services worker contacted police after not being allowed inside the family's Tontitown dwelling on May 27.

A DHS employee is heard asking for help in an audio recording obtained by the magazine which aired exclusively on NBC's TODAY on Thursday...

Terrorising babies when they crawl off a blanket, centering their parenting on punishment, breaking children's wills from birth, robbing all their children of a meaningful education and their girls of any future beyond being a submissive womb.....

TLC knew about all of that from the very beginning. Profit has trumped decency all long and will again unless fleeing advertisers keep their distance.

As for whether or not they're covering up physical abuse. Some former cult members say that when they were in their early teens their parents made them start " disciplining" their younger siblings. They were instructed to spank and literally use a rod on siblings, even those still in diapers.

Did the Duggars do this?

I can't imagine how traumatizing that would be for both sets of siblings. To be forced to be complicit in child abuse. To be a child surrounded- literally-at all times by brothers and sisters and parents who demand absolute, perfect obedience and who inflict pain when they don't receive it.

The Learning Channel, featuring a family that proudly renounces actual education. The Discovery Channel, subsidizing a family that doesn't allow even their babies to actually discover anything on their own.

I only watched a few shows right before this broke, but I am guessing that everything was white washed.

I realize that this show was a huge money maker for TLC, but I also question whether there may be some behind the scenes that hold the same beliefs as the Duggars and others like them and want to promote the lifestyle.

I researched who owned TLC (Discovery) and who owned Discovery, etc., until I came across info on the family with a controlling interest in the Discovery corporation.

I had to laugh.

This family who helped make the very intolerant, rigid, medieval Duggars rich also owns Costa Neste, which publishes among other pornographic magazines ....Vanity Fair! Feature cover this month a transgender Caitlin...LOL.

I agree that's possible. In which case Jim Bob and Michelle betrayed their daughters yet again by allowing them (or maybe even encouraging them) to speak out on their behalf on national television.

IMO though, I think they knew. The family has a damage control (PR) expert on board and likely stipulated how the interviews were to be conducted. My guess is that they all thought that since DHS business is protected that no one would be the wiser.

What on earth were the parents thinking when they denied DHS access to the minor they wanted to talk with? Lying to the public on television is bad enough but refusing to cooperate with a child protection agency is downright reprehensible. What are they hiding?

ITA the family needs to be investigated but I think DHS knew about all the victims back in 2006. Josh sued DHS in 2007 so they had access to the 2006 police report.

Besides scoring an interview with Hutchens, In Touch also reports that Josh Duggar sued the Arkansas Department of Human Services several months after the police closed their 2006 investigation.

The publication reports that after the Springdale police department ended its probe into the molestation allegations, the department referred the issue to the Families in Need of Services agency, which looks into cases involving minors.

The Department of Human Services was also brought into case, the publication reports. Nine months after the two agencies looked into the matter, Duggar sued the Department of Human Services, with the trial taking place August 6, 2007.

The Weather Channel used to be that - weather - 24/7. Now TWC has live weather coverage a few hours per day unless there is major storm coverage. The rest of the time, there is silly reality-type programming. What a waste!

Wouldn't the "5 year old" be the only minor still a minor (from the molestation allegations) still under the Duggar roof? The In Touch report indicated that DHS was trying to investigate the welfare of the minor. But supposedly the 5 yr old was the one who recalled the book reading ploy by Josh. So DHS must have been aware at that time, and "investigated", the result being a gold star for the Duggars .....so what minor were they checking on THIS time????? Very confused. JMO
