Purchase from shops Rabbit Photo and Strandbags.

Could a passport photo etc been purchased from Rabbit Photo?
Would the shop keep the negatives or copies?

Rabbit Photo closed down in Mount Gambier years ago. Strandbags is still there, it would be the one in Centro Shopping Plaza, back then it was known as "Lakes Village"

Some general musings from me...

Had the bank card expired and in order to obtain a new one, the people posing as Karlie would have to give an address for it to be posted to, something that they weren't willing to risk. Not sure how it works in Australia, in the UK you either have then posted out or you have to collect from the bank with ID. Could her card have been cloned to produce two cards to use? Hence the large distances between the activity?

I strongly suspect that this is not opportunistic, someone must've known a lot about Karlie and Khandles to keep the pretence up that they were alive. I suspect that beautiful Khandles was alive for longer, maybe cared for by one of the women, which is why her belongings were with her, also, Khandles hair seems longer than in the photos from the shopping centre which were taken shortly before she was last seen iirc.

It's absolutely tragic, such sweet girls totally in the wrong place.

When I am due for a new card, the bank just sends it to me in the post a month or so before it is meant to expire, but it could be different in other states and different for other banks or cards like a credit card. I suspect that this individual went to the bank to change Karlie's details (such as address) before the expiry date and then the bank would just send the card to the new address.

That's a tight timeline to drive, probably impossible without a co-driver. Google maps have Alice Springs to Adelaide as 16 hours driving (no breaks). Consider the police have said Khandalyce was in the car when it was stopped in Cooper Pedy on the 8th.

3/11 Pt Augusta
6/11 Adelaide (16hrs driving)
8/11 Pulled over in Cooper Pedy (9 hrs driving)
9/11 Alice Springs (7 hrs driving)
14/11 Adelaide (16 hrs driving)
Insert somewhere in here also the meeting with the friend at Marion Shopping Centre - no wonder she looked tired)
17/11 Mt Gambier (4 hrs) Interesting that both a suitcase shop (Strandbags) and photo shop are located here. Was Karlie dead already or was it planned she would be..... although there is an unconfirmed sighting of her in Canberra....

Such a busy time for her. Was Khandalyce with her the whole time....

Timeline from here: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-10-27/timeline-karlie-pearce-stevenson-bank-account-activity/6890008

If you were in Port Augusta and heading to Alice Springs it is quite odd to go back to Adelaide first.

I was going to say that.
Alice Springs is pretty big - not a place where everyone knows everyone else.

Absolutely. I live in a small "horse" town now with about 1,000 people and don't know everyone. We actually had a very major police bust this year, complete with helicopters, swat teams, you name it, and half the town didn't even know the man who committed the crime. Everyone was walking around going ... "huh?" He'd lived here apparently for years and no-one had a clue.

Is it possible the person the police pulled over in Karlies car in November wasn't actually her. Is it possible that person was the imposter / fraudster ? Maybe Karlie was already murdered by then.

Operation AUSTRAN was a month-long operation conducted by SA Police at a weighing station near Tailem Bend beginning May 2015. Police were looking out for any signs of illegal activity, so were presumably doing thorough checks of vehicles. A truck-driver who knew he was carrying something that would interest police (ie. a suitcase), is likely to have been pre-warned by other truckies about the stop. It would be easy to detour via Wynarka and throw the suitcase from the truck. I think it was also mentioned earlier in the thread, that the suitcase was initially thought to be caught in bushes? This would also fit with the suitcase being thrown from a large vehicle.

"Also, disturbingly, it appears that in June 2010 a woman in a wheelchair impersonating Ms Pearce-Stevenson attended Australian Central Credit Union, Elizabeth, to update banking records," police say.

I used to have an account with Australian Central Credit Union when I lived in SA. I recall receiving notification in late 2009 or early 2010 that it was merging with Savings and Loans Credit Union to become People's Choice Credit Union.
In order to keep using my account and obtain a new key card I would be required to visit a branch with some ID.
I didn't bother as I did not live near any branches and had very little reason to keep the account. I am wondering if this was the reason the person impersonating Karlie had to attend a branch. Does anyone know when the Elizabeth branch changed?

When you register a business name and obtain an ABN you can open another bank account using your own ID (Karlie's) but the account name is in the Company name.

I wonder if Police have searched for bank accounts under KP Drilling explorations???

BBM - Brilliant observation!
Yep, her hair is not as long in the Marion photo as the hair on the police dummy.
But maybe it is longer at the back????

I think like you said before it was either leverage/blackmail/protection or there was an emotional attachment somehow. Perhaps one of the women in this group grew attached to the little one and maybe wanted to keep her..but someone killed her instead. She may have stashed the little one and the suitcase, and for some reason these remains have been discarded this year.

Maybe she passed on, and family members cleaned it out? Maybe she lived local, and the case was stolen from her property?

Keeping the remains in both scenarios suggest something a woman, more so than a man, would do. Men would be more likely to toss anything that connects them to something, IMO.

Yep, I think so.
Much as I want the killers brought to justice, I almost as much want an answer to this bizarre mystery of why someone kept the clothing and why they,or someone else, later dumped it.
Been driving me nutty for 3 months.

Another brilliant thought!

Has anyone contacted crime stoppers about the ABN number in her name?

Hey guys, I haven't finished catching up, but I'm not surprised to hear the news today about the Centerlink fraud. Here was my post last week about it, mind you I guessed it would have been half the amount, not sure how they managed to continue her payments to 2014 after the 4th birthday immunisation requirements weren't met. or is that only to qualify for child care rebate? or is it a more recent policy of Centrelink? http://www.websleuths.com/forums/sh...-Stevenson-(Belanglo)&p=12133224#post12133224

I suppose it would depend on if they checked her licence, or not. Another possibility if they had a fake drivers licence with Karlie's details but her picture.

I can't bold atm, but I wonder if it was kept for sentimental reasons, especially as the police are now saying that they believe that Karlie and Khandles were murdered at different locations and different times. I have outfits and keepsakes that my children have outgrown and are currently stored in a plastic box, could whoever was 'caring' for Khandles have kept them?

Could one of the women now be in prison and the case was discovered by the man involved and disposed of? He thought she had got rid of it, she kept it hidden.

I'm going to go back and look at all the clothing again, especially the black tutu dress, and double check the dates of sale etc. My gut says that there is clothing in there that wasn't bought by Karlie, but by someone else, just my opinion though.

I don't think they "kept the clothes" so much as they were just there and needed to be hidden away just as the body was. Later on, whoever it was probably didn't want to pick through to separate the remains from the clothing. I think when Khandalyse was killed her body and her stuff was all stashed somewhere together and at a later date were all dumped into the suitcase to be transported. She decomposed in amongst all that stuff, it doesn't seem like it was kept for any reason other than convenience at the time.

The wheelchair might have been used to disguise a vast difference in height between the two women.. Paranoia about what details the bank hAd?

Perhaps Khandles and Karlies photos which were taken at the shopping centre weren't actually taken on the same day. Not sure what this shows/doesn't show but they aren't in the same photo.

Or maybe the wheelchair was to garner sympathy and avoid hard, prying questions?

IMO it's not a small town, well it wasn't when I was there in May of this year. I was expecting a little town with one road running through it. It's actually quite large with all the major department stores, many shopping centres, fast food outlets etc....

Alice Springs is still a fairly large sized town, somewhere in the vicinity of 25,000 people - there's no way people would know everyone there, even if you lived there all your life. There are about 3 petrol stations in Alice and they would probably have a lot of casual staff. Also, no-one checks what card you use. It's common practice nowadays to "pay wave" if the transaction's under $100, and it's now pretty standard policy that staff don't touch your card when you use EFTPOS, let alone actually look at it. I use my partner's card all the time when we fuel up, and no-one ever actually looks at the card.

I was going to say that.
Alice Springs is pretty big - not a place where everyone knows everyone else.

Ok, thank you. I've not yet been to Alice Springs, it's on my bucket list when I do the Big Lap. I was going by what another poster had said up thread that Alice Springs was basically a small town and everyone knows everyone else.
