I don' think $600 a week would be enough for an adult and two almost teenagers to live on.

Interesting thought. We've all been trying to figure out *why* she would do this, if she did. The current financial relationship between her and Simon is quite opaque, but money stress is the motivation behind so many similar cases where someone kills a spouse or another family member that it has to be way up there on the list of potential reasons. She still may have been struggling with cash though.
She could also have other assets: stocks, bonds, savings etc. that she could be spending down.

There could also be assets left in trust for the kids, with her as the named trustee. (Which may help explain why the grandparents were targeted.)Yes, I was wondering if she paid SP a sum of cash for his share of the Mt Waverley property in 2021, and then they transferred the property into her name only.
This could have substantially reduced any cash she may have had, especially with also paying to build her new home in Leongatha.
Leaving her in the position of living on rental income and his shared support of the children. Which might have seemed an okay settlement at the time, but may have turned out to be difficult.
If SP was no longer alive, I wonder if his assets (including 'her' money given to him for his share of the unit in 2021) would have all gone to their minor children - who were in her care.
imo
If it's true she worked for the Dept of Defence, she might have taken a redundancy package or qualified for an invalidity pension. Not if she was paying all of the child-related expenses, but presumably SP was paying ½ of the child-related expenses, or giving her child support payments and picking up some of the other expenses (school uniforms and such).
She still may have been struggling with cash though. I checked, and if she was getting rental income of approx $600 per week she would not have been eligible for Parenting Payment.
imo
To add to this, I wonder if they do psychometric testing on air traffic controllers, or if they’re evaluated by psychologists or psychiatrists before undertaking the role??If anything, the fact the accused used to be an air traffic controller seems even scarier. It is a position of power and I wonder if she is guilty that she enjoyed having a feeling of power over her guests. It is a chilling thought.
That’s interesting JLZ and it’s got me thinking!!If it's true she worked for the Dept of Defence, she might have taken a redundancy package or qualified for an invalidity pension.
Invalidity pension post government service is different from disability pension from Centrelink. The former is not income/asset tested. That’s interesting JLZ and it’s got me thinking!!
She may have had a passive income from another property?
She may have been eligible to be on a disability pension from DHS but I’m not sure she would be eligible due to their asset tests.
In terms of a single parent payment from DHS, there’s asset tests on that and I think owning a second property which she did not live in might preclude her from passing the asset test, but I’m not really sure.
I do wonder what she was using as income, to pay food, bills, car expenses like fuel, and school fees.
I also wonder if she would be eligible for job seeker? Or maybe ex partner Simon was paying some sort of alimony to her to keep her afloat?
All imo
Got it - thanks!Invalidity pension post government service is different from disability pension from Centrelink. The former is not income/asset tested.
If she has income from Centrelink, that might be a reason for a more than usually amicable property settlement with her spouse.
My goodness, that was quick!![]()

@JBowie Thanks for the r/e link.
That is really, really weird.@JBowie Thanks for the r/e link.
EP & SP bought it in 2019, before he transferred his interest to her, per a post in the past week or so.
At link:
"27 Jul 2019
Sold for $931,000"
"27 Jun 2019
Listed for Sale $800,000 - $880,000"
Bought on SAME day property was listed for sale, for a significantly HIGHER $ figure than the listng's $ range shown.
If that was not an auction purchase, seems the market for houses in that neighborhood was extreeemely hot.
And/or (inheritance?) money was burning a hole in her pocket??? Or other, IDK.
Not unusual in Australia's INSANE real estate market. My goodness, that was quick!
