Not long to go now.

Once the proceedings begin, this podcast will bring you all the key updates from the case involving accused triple murderer, Erin Patterson, and an allegedly poisonous mushroom lunch. If and when the case proceeds to a full trial, we'll cover it daily.

I'm actually disappointed in the Mushroom Case Daily one.
I don't think they have real time updates.

It's more likely to be news that follow in real time rather than podcasts

Re news, I hope some have a live update page following the case once it gets going.

I've made up my mind to never eat a wild picked mushroom again, even if they look like ok ones.
Or even if someone assures me they're ok.
IMO - I’m wound tight ha ha & would NEVER try any wild mushroom. MOO

So if jury empanelment is Tuesday, what will they be doing today? I thought the pre-trial hearings were already complete?

How Erin Patterson's murder trial over alleged mushroom killings will be run

The highly anticipated triple-murder trial of Erin Patterson is set to get under way on Tuesday, with a jury to be chosen for the case.”

How will the trial work?

“On Tuesday, Ms Patterson will be asked in front of the jury pool how she wishes to plead to the charges of murder and attempted murder.

The trial will proceed if she enters a not guilty plea, as expected.

A group of 14 or 15 jurors will be chosen from the large pool. However their numbers will be cut to a final 12 who will deliver verdicts at the end of the trial.”

Due to space constraints, only six reporters will be allocated seats each day and will have to enter a ballot. Other journalists and media professionals will watch proceedings from an overflow room in the court building.

The case will not be publicly live-streamed.

News outlets will be allowed to report on the trial, provided the reports are based on what the jury has seen and heard.

The ABC intends to cover the trial on its online, television, radio and social media platforms, and on the Mushroom Case Daily podcast.”

Podcast ... they had just returned from today's court hearing. The court was ironing out the last minute pretrial details today (quite normal) before jury selection starts tomorrow.

There is a larger than usual media presence at the court. The court has set up an overflow room in Morwell and an overflow room in Melbourne to accommodate the media.

Erin was there in person today.

Jury will be drawn from the Morwell area.

There is no public feed for this trial.

Erin Patterson was in court like I'd thought she would be.

Erin Patterson's Murder Trial Begins

A small error in this article.

As @Marg944 has outlined above, there will be 15 jurors empanelled, as I understand. Not 12 as the article states.

It will be reduced to 12 when they start deliberating

On Tuesday, a jury is expected to be chosen for the trial of Erin Patterson, who has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and attempted murder over the fatal July 2023 lunch.

It's all a bit underwhelming.

I thought at least there would be video of lawyers etc entering the court and vision of Ms Patterson arriving.
Plus the potential jurors and the media.

Did everyone arrive by secret entrances.
I don't think I've ever seen the beginning of a trial, where no one was seen, even on the day of selecting jurors.

Media aren't allowed there when they're empanelling the jury, I believe.
