Australia Australia - Amesha Rajapakse, 31, Westmead, NSW, 26 Aug 2014

I agree TGY ... surely the brother could have stopped for butter and milk. Or picked them up before going to work if he was a late night shift worker, for some reason.

I wonder how the apartment manager could tell that Amesha seemed to have something on her mind, from the CCTV vision. Was she crying? Or biting her nails? What would indicate that a person had something on her mind?

Thanks for those photos, South Aussie! I missed those reports about the car being taken away and with Damian in the lobby. Did they say whose car that is? The family's?

Yes Xantara, they said a family car or the family car ... will listen to the video again.

And I don't think they always take a family vehicle away for (presumably) forensic testing ... not in the mysterious deaths I have read about in the past ... and where I think they probably should have (Kylie Blackwood's case jumping to mind here).

Apart from conflicting reports of when the brother last spoke to Amesha - Monday or Tuesday (although those conflicts could be the fault of msm) - one small thing I found a bit strange was him saying that he'd bought her take away on Sunday night... Just rings odd to me. It's a detail that doesn't really add value to anything about the story, other than provide an example of 'what a good brother' he is to his little sister. And I also still have trouble 'digesting' how the brother just happened to find her, of all places, in an underpass or creek or whatever, that is supposedly so hard to get to... It'd be interesting to know where else he'd searched for her, allegedly throughout the course of the night...

Okay .. the video says "the couple's car was also taken away to be examined by forensic experts" (at around 1:47 in the video).

Also, interestingly, the video says "that scream appears to have come from her husband or brother .. they had both reported her missing last night" (around the 1:00 mark).

The building manager thought she looked agitated or concerned, by the way she was pacing up and down in the lobby, going from front door to back door, four or five times, and putting that scarf between the door to keep it unlocked - presumably sticking her head out or something to check something, and then coming back in again. I think they're the only behaviours of hers that were mentioned.

Yes, I can see that behaviour being taken as agitation or concern ... although in the video he definitely says "something on her mind" (they have video of him speaking), which doesn't necessarily mean showing agitation or concern. I'm wondering if there was more than just the pacing ....

Aagghh .. I wish they'd release more info .. at least the COD! All this lack of info is making me analyse - and perhaps overthink - every single little thing! :tantrum:

I give a little benefit of the doubt to her brother in interviews because of English being second language.
I wonder if they had a balcony or window that looks over the area where she was found.

Hahaha ... no worries TGY. I just turned on Escape to the Country instead. :)

Well, the police said they would have the autopsy report on Thursday and it's now Friday... The results are reportedly key to determining whether the death is suspicious or not. Given that there are many local residents disturbed by this event and women, in particular, not knowing whether they should legitimately fear for their safety, I hope the autopsy results are released sooner rather than later!!!

If they don't release the initial autopsy finding soon, I imagine that we'll find that Amesha's death is a targeted killing or a suicide or an accident. Though I personally can't see it being a suicide or accident. Surely they would alert the public if some homicidal maniac was running loose.

It seems an unlikely venue for a suicide, though not impossible. And the only way that I can imagine it being an accident is if Amesha was fleeing in fear and somehow got over or around that fence by the creek and tried to hide/flee that way. Because it sure would have been a slippery, muddy and wet shortcut to nowhere.

What happened to you Amesha?? I wish we even knew what you looked like .. who you were ...

:rose:

I notice security was beefed up at the complex but I wonder if that was mainly for the other residents peace of mind.

The complex has put on extra security patrols with the hundreds of residents, especially women, in fear after the grisly discovery.

Police not releasing a photo of Amesha could mean a possible suicide.

By this time, if it was a case of murder, I tend to think the media would be onto it and we'd be hearing about it.

Hard to know with so little information.

I guess something against suicide in this case could be Amesha’s religion.

Buddhists are not known for embracing suicide in any form. It is considered a bad way to start their next life. Bad karma. And it is considered to be focusing inwards to self, instead of outwards to others.

There were some Buddhist monks who burned themselves up, but that was a political statement, and still caused a lot of angst among their own.

“If one knows how to treasure oneself, one should protect oneself well.”

-The Buddha (Dhammapada)

“According to the Buddhist teaching of cause and effect, since one does not realise the truth of all phenomena, or does not practise to be liberated from life and death, suicide is pointless. When one’s karmic retribution is not exhausted, death by suicide only leads to another cycle of rebirth. This is why Buddhists do not support suicide; and instead, encourage constructive living, using this life to diligently practise good, thus changing the present and the future for the better.”

- Chan Master Sheng Yen

RSBM

Amesha may have suffered a depressive or paranoid disorder or something.
She didn't have friends only family.
That's sad.

So I was just looking into the known reasons for such a high suicide rate in Sri Lanka. It looks like grinding poverty, particularly in rural areas, is a primary 'cause':

But poverty, joblessness, high debt burdens and other social problems—the main factors behind the high suicide rate—are rampant throughout the country.

According to a recent police report, 3,770 people committed suicide, including 231 women, in 2011. Most were in rural peasant areas and were mainly due to poverty and debt.

http://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2012/09/sril-s28.html

Amesha's situation is very different from this as she had a university degree and lived in Australia. BUT.....I totally get that she may have viewed suicide as a viable 'out' if it is widespread in Sri Lanka.

Blessings to Amesha.

I'm surprised that no photo of Amesha has been released and police not asking help from the public.
It's unlikely she got to the shops.

Unless she had prior medical problems of self harm I'm disappointed the police would make a 'knee jerk' reaction of assuming suicide unless everything is totally obvious.
Say like found hanging by her scarf, but even then they should not assume suicide.

Unless she obviously self harmed, something like this should always be treated with suspicion.

If she had suicide tendencies then I'm sure she wouldn't have been expected to venture outside on such a wild night.

Possibly, but it goes against this comment ... (I think)

“She was the nicest, most laid-back person ever,” the staff member said.

“She didn’t seem to have a worry in the world.”

Unless she was medicated.

I think the police should release some footage of Amesha's last moments in case someone outside the complex saw something/someone else.
The father didn't find her he begged to see her face. It appears the brother found her.

Would so many Sri Lankan papers have published articles about Amesha's death if it was thought to be suicide? Although it seems that they are just re-publishing our articles.

Here is another one - the Hiru News this time. It has some reader comments underneath, but Google translate cannot seem to translate them .. perhaps a local dialect. Wish we could see what they say. :sigh:
