:(
It is such a sad discovery, but atleast her family and friends can have some closure after finally finding her 💓

Completely agree. I think it would be horrible to never know what happened and always wonder

Moo...is it confirmed it is her?

What an amazing effort by the searchers, such dedication.

“Mr Boys said the remains were found about two hours' walking distance from where other items were discovered in December, in an area the search party had not been through.”

Wow!

Well, I was starting to worry that that guy was starting to lose sight of Celine and creeping into doing it for himself and his own publicity.

More than happy to eat crow over that. Celine going home to her family is worth it all.

MOO

Quote from this article, "the body parts were found about three kilometers north-east of the Philosopher Falls car park, alongside the Arthur River."

Sounds like she followed the river. Only made it about halfway to where the Magnet Rd crosses the Arthur River.

"The bones that I saw were just lying on top of a pile of soil and stones," Mr Boys said.

Well done. RIP Celine.

If that is Celine, it’s weird that she went north east, especially if she was using a compass, as the carpark is south. Feels like a long walk in tough conditions and in the wrong direction. Possibly frozen, disoriented & just following the river. Wonder why Jarrod even headed that way and so far away from Rob’s search areas and where the phone was found.

If I've got this right looking on google maps just now, a point 3km NE of the car park (not the falls), by the river, is not actually that far from where Rob was searching in the last video. It's a bit further east along the river.

On the map shown at 01:55 with the three footprint images it looks to me to be somewhere around where the rightmost footprint is, or maybe a bit further east.

A compass technically points north and south everywhere, but a standard Northern Hemisphere compass (like those for Europe) won't work well in Australia because the needle's magnetic inclination (dip) is different, causing it to drag or jam; you need a specially weighted "MS" (Magnetic South) balanced compass for Australia or a "Global" compass to avoid inaccurate readings in either region (Google AI)

I was wondering if an european compass would work the same in Australia. I would have thought it was the same so maybe that what went wrong.

'Very difficult time' for family after remains found in search for Belgian tourist who went missing in 2023

Relatives of a Belgian tourist missing for more than two years in the Tasmanian bush are going through a "very difficult time" following the discovery of human remains in the area where she disappeared.

Celine Cremer's sister Amelie called the discovery a "significant step forward in the search" but warned supporters nothing was confirmed until DNA analysis was carried out.

"We ask everyone to be respectful and patient, and to wait for the experts' conclusions before sharing any erroneous or premature information," she said, in a post on Facebook.

"We are going through this very difficult time and ask you to avoid any inappropriate curiosity.

"Official information will be released in due course."

She thanked family and friends for their support, describing it as "invaluable to us during this ordeal".

This story wasn't going to have a happy ending, but it's some solace her loved ones are looking to get closure.

From the interview Jarrod gave:
Yeah, so I started near where the bottle was found. And I went from the water race northeast, travelled for about two hours from there at a pretty good pace. So it was about three kilometres.

And ABC clarified in their news article:
The body parts were found about three kilometres north-east of the Philosopher Falls car park, alongside the Arthur River.
Is the mystery of missing tourist Celine Cremer at an end?

Playing around on satellites pro, that would place the discovery around here:

from the live press conference by Tas Pol just now:

"If these remainsturn out to be Celine Cremer, that location is consistent with ourtheory that potentially she could have been trying to reach the road and may have done so by moving towards the river, knowing thatfollowing it downstream may eventually lead to that road."

Police to return to site tomorrow by helicopter

He says six experts will again fly to the site of the remains tomorrow via helicopter due to the length of time it would take to walk into the remote terrain.

Those experts will continue searching the river area.

"They're going to be inserted approximately 400-500 metres downstream of where the remains were located, and they will then walk up the river in a what is effectively a line search."
The bushwalker who found the remains, Jarrod Boys, has previously theorised that the remains he found were washed downstream, as they were deposited on a dry part of the riverbank.

Inspector Hanson says there is no need for any diving equipment and searchers will wade through the river.

Lower jaw bone found, several weeks for identity

As I understand it, the process now will be the boneswill be sent to a pathologist who will conduct a report and a review.

They will then go to an anthropologist for a similar process.

Thebones will then go to an odontologist (teeth specialist) who will conduct those dentalcomparisons with records that we are currently in the process ofobtaining through (mother) Ariane from Belgium.

And the last part of thatchain is that the bones then get sent to Forensic Science Services Tasmania for DNA testing.

No other items found with remains to confirm the identiy

Inspector Hanson says a pathologist confirmed the remains were human but not other items were found with the bones that would determine an identity.
