Thanks Makara. Now we could do with a map of mobile phone black spots in the area. I'll just bet that most of the area bounded by the Calder, Digger's Rest-Coimadai, Gisborne-Melton and Couangalt Roads has plenty of them.

Bo, that site also lists the black spots in the area. Not that we really need them because it's been stated that Karen's phone pinged near Gisborne and BR's near Diggers Rest.

Can we get a triangular map of the area?

NSEW can some one do this with the available info .

More info - your good at this;)

Ahhh Unit don't be too sure. If they have leaked...well someone has....the pings from her phone and his...you can bet they have the rest of the data that goes along with it. This is just a bejeeby moment to put the wind up the POI.

The link Makara has supplied gives a break down of cell towers working within the area that includes the zones all the way down south to Melton.

It also breaks down the cell towers in to who uses the towers, with Telstra, vodaphone and Optus being the main operaters.

All police need to know is who her service provider is...... if we are already being given the information of where one ping come from from her phone, they will also know which service provider she went through.

Not all providers utilise the same towers at all points..... so if they focus on a specific area around Toolern Vale.....ya can bet they know alot more than whats been provided to the public so far.

So far I have identified two towers that would ping in that Toolern Vale area...meaning even if she was in diggers rest her phone may also randomly hit a tower in Toolern Vale...... a phone will hit any tower within a 14km radius, thats connected to her service provider....and not always necessarily the closest one...

Puggles the Telstra 3G tower at 273 Gisborne-Melton Road Toorlen Vale is interesting in that there is a huge expanse of forest to the left of it.

I was under the assumption that you didn't have to be with a particular carrier for your phone to ping off another carrier's tower. Would phones ping off any of the towers in the area?

That link you provided stated which phone carriers utilised such n such towers, some carriers used the same towers, whilst others only indicated one or two carriers, and some only one carrier used.

The 273 Gisbourne Melton Road one.. was of interest, Im betting she was using Telstra....

it borders the leeederberg state forest..... dense bushland.

I believe it is all about the radio frequency of the pings. Telstra equipment recognises Telstra pings etc. But all 3 big providers are well placed in that area (I don't know the geography though, there may be significant obstructions to clear line-of-sight for the signals).
Some providers are sharing some towers, some not. I wouldn't be surprised if the phone(s) pinged off multiple towers in that area, no matter which provider they are with. And if the phones were on for any length of time the previous night and that morning, they may easily show the entire route they took ... from the house, I mean.

So the area they are reporting these pings to have been in is, no doubt, the very end point that they have been able to track.

I'm a little behind reading all the posts, catching up now, but spontaneous question if I may, do the police use drones for these kind of searches? Just been wondering.

Great idea! They certainly should.

The first image shows the address and information of the tower between Gisborne and Toorlen Vale.

The second image shows the terrain surrounding that tower.

The third image shows the location of the tower and a dam in the lower right hand of the image. Bohemian is this the same dam that you mentioned up thread?

They can also sometimes tell approximately (in kms) how far away from the tower the mobile phone is/was by the strength of the signal, especially when they are linking or triangulating signals.

Your screenshots just reminded me of that little detail, Makara.

Thanks SA. I was hoping that was the case. I don't have a clue about mobile phones.

Good question Itsapuzzle. From memory they used drones in the Khandalyce Pearce investigation, albeit in South Australia.

If they had've found her in that dam we would know about it right? Would they release that info straight away?

BR left home at approximately 10:15-30am. He arrived home at approximately 12 midday. That covers the two hours that his phone was switched off (as reported in MSM). It takes about 20 mins up the Calder to drive to Digger's Rest.

BR's phone last pinged near Digger's Rest. Maybe he turned it off there.

Just how far would you need to go, ditching a phone near Gisborne and finding an isolated site, to conceal anything else you needed to conceal, and get back to Avondale Heights, possibly via Digger's Rest, around 12ish? No more than 15 to 20 minutes away from Digger's Rest is my guess.

Somewhere near Blackhill and Mt Aitken Roads, Sunbury/Gisbourne South(?) could be another likely spot in this case if it was a 'round trip'.

Yes. They have a duty to the public to release that information and there is no reason why they wouldn't.
