As we're right next to essendon airport where helicopters are based, helicopters overhead aren't unusual but flying back and forth repeatedly will prompt chatter on local facebook which is how i first heard shed gone for a walk and not come back. Helicopters could have been for something else and someone's just incorrectly attributed them to search for KR

I think you/someone said that Borce was asking locals about their home CCTV and that is how the locals initially heard Karen was missing?

Just wondering if police were door-knocking before Saturday.

I think Mr Rule is incorrect in stating that Karen wasn't reported missing for 3 days.

Victoria Police tweeted about Karen being missing at 6:11 AM - 30 Jun 2016

ETA Pic of tweet as time changed when posting

Thanks for searching for and posting this, sleep. I read the parts of the Andrew Rule article Makara posted late last night (then I went to sleep thinking; 'Nup, those dates can't be right *zzzzz....*')

If it helps any, maybe Andrew Rule got his dates mixed up. AFAIK Karen wasn't reported as missing in MSM until 3 July:

http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/d...ing-mother-20160703-gpxclz.html#ixzz4DMi7HIVs

There are a number of articles dated 2nd July such as the one below.

And if anyone can understand Macedonian - this one looks like it's 1st July

According to Andrew Rule, it was SR who reported her mother missing on Saturday July 2. BR may have already reported Karen missing but for some reason SR's report seems to be of relevance in Rule's article.

I also remember the name of this police officer as being the original author of the Missing Person posts for Karen on VICPOL's Latest News.

'Senior Constable Adam West said Ms Ristevski’s disappearance was out of character.'

http://www.starweekly.com.au/news/search-for-missing-taylors-lakes-business-owner-enters-fifth-day/

I remember there being two Missing Persons posts about her. He would probably know when Karen was reported missing.

Regardless, thanks for posting the tweet, sleep.

He doesn't actually say 'reported' - she may have told them something else (what I have no idea).

It wasn’t until July 2, the following Saturday, distraught daughter Sarah told police and made a plea for help to find her mother.

Andrew Rule is usually very precise with his reporting.

I wonder if Rule is correct or incorrect about the date police interviewed BR. If it wasn't until nine days after Karen's disappearance, it's a little more plausible that he didn't remember his trip up the Calder.

"The last time Mrs Ristevski was seen was June 29, a Wednesday. It wasn’t until July 2, the following Saturday, distraught daughter Sarah told police and made a plea for help to find her mother. Six days later, police interviewed Borce, who maintained he and Karen had argued at the house over finances before she left for a walk to “clear her head” about 10am."

Great, this is the original police announcement. I have been looking for that. It was only linked here, in Thread One, not posted.

I am going to post it here so that we have it somewhere, seeing that VicPol have archived it.

And as you say, the article is dated 1st July.

Yup SA, that's the first missing persons post I saw for Karen on vicpolicenews too. A second was posted dated 7July IIRC. Thanks for finding it.

so much was made .....here on WS of the fact that BR was out there on the same day she went missing...he was asking neighbours if they had CCTV ....it was speculated that in itself was suspicious.

I personally saw FB posts the next day from friends mentioning her being missing......

So Mr Rule...as much as I love the dude....he has his facts wrong on this occasion.

BBM: All in your opinion, yes? Below is what Andrew Rule said in the article we've been discussing. It has also been posted earlier up thread.

The last time Mrs Ristevski was seen was June 29, a Wednesday. It wasn’t until July 2, the following Saturday, distraught daughter Sarah told police and made a plea for help to find her mother. Six days later, police interviewed Borce, who maintained he and Karen had argued at the house over finances before she left for a walk to “clear her head” about 10am.

So how has Andrew Rule got his facts wrong do you think? He has simply stated that SR told police, not that she was the first to notify police that her mother was missing. There is a fascinating method in the way Andrew Rule puts his words together in his articles. You just have to read between the lines sometimes IMO.

But in the same article Andrew Rule also says:

"The case is littered with loose ends, red herrings and questions. Starting with why police weren’t told Mrs Ristevski had vanished until three days later."

  • #277
I wish we could figure out what Andrew is trying to say. How did the police tweet on 1st July come about? Was it others who reported to police first, and not family? Is that what he is trying to say?

Or did Sarah go to the police late at night on the 1st July, and by the time she signed a report it was officially 2nd July but still the same night? Nah .. that seems a bit not-right. lol

ETA: Sarah probably Facebooked her mother's friends before she reported to police, if there was social media talking about Karen being missing prior to the police talking about it or knowing about it.

You're right and on 30 June some people were already sharing the vicpolice "missing Karen article"image.jpeg

  • #280
If I'm reading it correctly then the writer of that article seems convinced that BR is responsible for Karen's disappearance. I just wonder how he can make such assertions in the absence of any solid proof - to do so, he is running the risk of being sued for libel.
