Thanks for the updates Flinders (my thanks button isn't working!!) :)

Terrible reading about what Kiesha went through. And I'm sure there was violence prior to that night. Poor, dear little girl.

A life filled with abuse: Kiesha murder
June 17, 2013, 4:33 pm
By Isabel Hayes - AAP

Kiesha's mother and murderer, Kristi Anne Abrahams, abused her from when she was as young as 15 months old.
The abuse started years before Kiesha was murdered by her mother.

The little girl was just 15 months' old when Kristi Anne Abrahams viciously bit her daughter's shoulder.

Killer mum gave Kiesha a 'little nudge'
12:18pm June 24, 2013

The court has previously heard the couple stuffed her body in a suitcase and kept it in her bedroom for some days.

They then donned disguises, took a taxi to nearby bushland at Shalvey, burned Kiesha's body and buried it in a shallow grave.

Forensic dentist, Dr Alain Middleton, told the court Kiesha had suffered fracturing to four of her teeth, consistent with being punched several times in different directions.

The sentencing hearing continues before Justice Ian Harrison.

This is such a heartbreaking case.

I hope Kristi rots, I cant even comprehend what type of monster she was to poor little Kiesha..

F***ed up at school? Wasnt it reported that she only attended 5 days the whole time before she went missing?

If she was p'ing & s'ing the bed, is it no wonder, she was most certainly terrified of waking up to another day of abuse.

RIP Kiesha... may your soul be free

I am not surprised how long Kristi waited before declaring Kiesha missing.

The fact that Kristi punched Kiesha so forcefully, one can only assume that their was physical damage (cuts bruising etc) to Kiesha's face, and I am guessing bruising to Kristi's knuckles etc..

She would not get Kiesha help for fear of being investigated for Child abuse.

She would have had to wait for the physical damage on her hands to heal, and I am guessing ensure the house is free from any evidence (cleaning product smells, residules etc)

so angry at this case, it is making me ramble...

Missing girl Kiesha Abrahams knew life's harsh cruelty

Police sources revealed that, as a toddler, Kiesha was admitted to a western Sydney hospital with a bite wound inflicted by an adult.

The injury suffered by the pretty blue-eyed girl was yesterday described by a source as a "significant bite wound".

It has also emerged that Kiesha was known to numerous government departments, such as education and health.

I wonder if there will be journalist covering the beak down of a child not at school?

Will there be an inquiry on how children can slip through the system?

Kristi was on a good behaviour bond after the biting and KW was returned to her after anger management classes. It would appear that the only govt link to KW was the Education Department.

If Health still had a link with the family, I wonder if there was a govt funded referral to a paediatrician?

sad thing is there are plenty other children in NSW living like this” sadly very true.

Bolded By Me

I comes back to people in responsibility having a duty of care to follow through. My sister in law in the US is a teacher and she said they are bound by law to report abuse of children and the elderly. I wonder if we have the same laws and if we do, who is responsible for following up the case?

If I believe anything KA says, it was she was not toilet trained and school was a problem. I wonder if KW was incontinent at school (for a good reason) and they told KA to enrol her in another school that could provide the resources to respectfully change her at school with dignity.

I am thinking this would mean KW may not be able to take the school bus and she had to be driven. Explains maybe in some part why she wasn't at school. Her mother was just too lazy.

Could it be that the first school asked for KW to change schools and she never did because the interview would bring out details of past and present abuse. Either way, who has the duty of care?

Off topic, I met a lovely 20ish lady today who was so kind and helpful. We struck a conversation in which she told me she has intellectually disability with speech and other issues. She was working with young children in the same position. She has to has to live in supported adult housing with others to learn more.

I asked her what it was like to be a child with her condition. She said she spent most of her time as a child in a room by herself as people didn't know back then that we could learn.

I bet she did not get punched at all from different directions which resulted in a broken jaw.

If KA plays the pity card, be warned as it will be an epic failure because your daughter wet the bed.

What'd she get, or didn't they sentence her after all that?

Mrs Norris, they did have the afternoon off for this session and one court reporter said this sentencing phase will last the week. Both sides will offer evidence and then the judge MOO will consider the evidence.

Cheaper than JA by far but this is called a sentencing phase.

LOL .. thanks :) You can see I've given up understanding the system in my own country. Too hard to follow cases in Australia!

Yes, we do. All teachers are mandated reporters.

All children are entitled to 15 days of leave per school year. After that, unexplained absences are logged with the Home School Liaison Officer. If the HSLO officer finds that the child is away from school without a valid reason, a court order can be obtained to ensure the child attends school. If there are further absences, DoCS is usually advised. If things still don't improve, children may be taken into out of home care (foster care) in extreme cases.

Obviously the ball was dropped with Kiesha. The responsibility for following up in this case isn't clear. I've always believed that Kiesha's absences were because she had visible signs of abuse. It is the school's responsibility to follow up after 3 days in a row of unexplained absences. If they did follow up, HSLO should have been taking action.

Having said that, the area she lived in isn't great. I have no doubt that DoCS was following up much more severe cases than a child missing school. As far as we know, at that stage that's all they knew. On the other hand, she should have been flagged in the system because she'd already been in out of home care for abuse.

I hope that some kind of review takes place whether it's at school level or higher, because Kiesha should have never fallen through the cracks.

Kiesha's mother faces sentence

Kiesha Weippeart a victim of mother's violence

AFTER the tearful denials and frantic pleas for the safe return of a daughter she knew would never come home, there was only one word left for Kristi Anne Abrahams to say.

"Guilty," the 30-year-old said in a measured and polite tone yesterday as she admitted in the NSW Supreme Court to murdering her six year-old daughter Kiesha Weippeart

'I'll hurt her': Kiesha's mum

KRISTI Anne Abrahams said she was sick of her daughter Kiesha. She wanted to "hurt" and "kill" her.

Eventually, she did.

Shortly before she killed her six-year-old daughter Kiesha, Sydney woman Kristi Abrahams allegedly told her own father she was "sick" of the child and would "hurt" and "kill" her, a court had heard.
But the 30-year-old maintains that she did not intend to murder the little girl, but gave her "a little nudge", which caused her to fall.
The revelations came during the first day of Abrahams' sentencing hearing over the July 2010 murder of Kiesha Weippeart, who was killed at her home in Mt Druitt and then dumped in a bushland grave about a week later.

I am astounded that Kristi's father did not intervene and also that he gave all indications that he believed the child was actually missing.

<snipped>

But the full truth of what occurred may never be known, with Abrahams not expected to give evidence and the Crown alleging her versions of events is inconsistent with the forensic evidence.

In April 2011, eight months after Abrahams and her partner Robert Smith reported Kiesha missing, Abrahams confided to an undercover police officer that the little girl was dead and buried.

It was an admission that led to her being arrested and charged, but Abrahams only pleaded guilty to murder on the first day of her trial last week.

Abrahams also told the police officer that while there was no blood, “there could be blood in her bedroom from previous injuries.”

Abrahams remained expressionless throughout the sentencing hearing which continues on Tuesday.

Kristi's father told reporters his granddaughter might have left the apartment during the night to go look for a cat. :liar:

So many people in her life who knew she was mistreated and unloved and no one did anything. My heart bleeds for this little girl.

I would hope, that Kristi's father did infact advise the police of what he knew, but was trying to save face with KA, and go along with her story until the Police's suspicions were confirmed..

I would be extremely unhappy if he witheld such critical information on purpose.

Kristi Abrahams' Supreme Court sentencing hearing for Kiesha Weippeart murder continues

BEFORE Kiesha Weippeart was murdered, her mother Kristi Abrahams had warned a relative that she was "sick" of her daughter and would "hurt her or kill her", a court heard yesterday.

As the Supreme Court yesterday began considering what jail sentence Abrahams should receive, harrowing details of Kiesha's final days have emerged - including the opinion of a dental expert who said the six-year-old suffered as many as five "fresh" blows to the jaw before her death.

Murdered Kiesha 'suffered for months'

June 25, 2013 - 11:43AM

Dr Orde gave evidence at the second day of Abraham's sentence hearing on Tuesday.

He talked the court through 10 separate injuries to Kiesha's head, collar bone and arm, which he said showed signs of healing and which would have been inflicted in the weeks or months before her death.

"There would have been damage to the tissue and bone which would have resulted in significant pain experienced by the deceased victim," Dr Orde said.

"I didn't even know her and I loved her more than you!" one woman in the gallery said loudly as Kiesha Weippeart's mother, Kristi Anne Abrahams, was taken away at the end of the Supreme Court sentencing hearing.

What I can't understand is why she didn't just let someone else look after her - someone who would have loved her like she deserved to be loved
