The article states that “word on the street“ has it like this….

The streetcorner tip is the hitman was Neddy Smith and the place was the old Newtown RSL Club, which was upstairs from the street.

The article also mentions other underworld figures that mixed with Newtown Jets at the time including:

This was also about the time Gary Sullivan, who played with Dawson at Newtown in the 1970s, was pulling off some of the biggest bank and armoured truck robberies in Australia.

The article also reports that Neddy Smith was one of Dawson’s team-mate’s brother in law ….

So who knows ??? Would be an intriguing question to ask, if a truthful answer could be ascertained ???

EDIT to add, I don’t think it was a lie either…. My initial post was more that the article was trying to get across the point that possibly the Judge was out of his depth in regards to criminality and football links from that time ….
Hope that makes sense …

I doubt that the judge was out of his depth in regards to criminality and football links. Judges see it all and know far more about the seedy world of crime than the rest of us, but when judging a case, they work with only the direct evidence that is tested in the trial.

On her 17th birthday, he gave her a card addressed to “To my lovely, beautiful bub.”

“Hoping today is a very happy one + knowing we will share all the birthdays to follow. All my love, forever. 🤬🤬🤬,” Dawson wrote.

“To my lovely, beautiful (JC). The happiness your love gives me will be with me forever,” he wrote on Valentine’s Day in 1981.

Then in Christmas 1981, he gave JC a Christmas card with the initials “J.M.D.” on the front.

Instead of writing “C” to signify her last name, he wrote “D” for Dawson.

“All my love on our first real Christmas together,” Dawson wrote in the card.

“Knowing I’ll love you more each day, wishing only for your happiness forever. Chris 🤬🤬🤬. 25.12.81.”

He never grew up, never became a functioning adult.

The three little letters that led to Chris Dawson’s downfall

Love letters and cards from Chris Dawson to his teen babysitter were proof of his “infatuation” which drove him to murder wife Lynette Dawson, a court has heard.

View attachment 363804

It all looks so black and white until you read the transcripts. I believe JC more than I do Chris Dawson but the dates will be in question.

The transcripts from the trial that will be in contention are the dates. The judge in this case accepted JC's version that they were in 1980. I am guessing the next trial Chris Dawson will have to give evidence to defend the claims.

223 JC denied that the cards given to her by Mr Dawson were only received in 1981: they commenced in 1980. She conceded that she wrote the date on the cards later and not at the time they were given to her, although she did not know how much later.

224 JC denied that a particular card was given to her after she and Mr Dawson were married or that the reference in it to "our first real Christmas" was a reference to their first Christmas after they were married.

The Assessment of this is from 227.

A selective memory, and conveniently, vague and speculative. It would be irrational to think that Dawson did not receive the same advice when it came to the 2nd divorce. Except, this time, a less radical solution was accepted, he would have to cough up some dough in the second divorce ...Lucky JC.. !

However. ... his marriage to JC is invalid, his divorce from Lyn is invalid, his divorce from JC is invalid and his 3rd marriage is invalid.

Where this leaves JC's daughter, I don't quite know, but it leaves Lyn's daughters with one hell of a civil suit, an endless goat roping, as these sorts of cases are called. Everyone is in it, it's got bells, whistles and trumpets, .. I would think the suit would include the entirely innocent 3rd ''wife'.. She , currently , is entitled to 1/2 their shared assets, OR 1/2 the assets at the 1982 value.. this could cause a lot of sturm und drang all over the place....... ......

These are the kind of knotty problems that solicitors up and down the land indulge in, long what if's and what about's , during a lull in proceedings..
So if Lyn Dawson was really still alive as he told others, did CD commit bigamy?

I think the choice of words is interesting - "bub" - endearing form of affection - bubby.

But also because in reality she was close to a bubby in age compared to him - him being 20 years older.

Like when she was 5 he would have been 25 - one just starting school and the other just starting school ......... as a schoolteacher.

What's pathetic is he has to kill someone so he gets his fantasy skinny woman which is so important to him and which he believes he is entitled to. Plenty of people have marriages that don't work out - they do the decent thing and separate and move on with their life.

I think he also got his number plates mixed up too - It should be dumber and dumber or tweedle dee and tweedle dumb. MOO

Many men could only dream of the kind of love Lynette had for him.
He could do no wrong in her eyes. :(

Does anyone think that he eventually found someone to kill Lyn for him?? I don't think so. There is no honour among thieves, someone else would have blabbed, and they would , the brothers, have had to have forked out a fortune, with no guarantees of lifelong silence. It doesn't make sense...

I think he poisoned her. The girls were there , sleeping.. Notwithstanding that BadenClay did the same while his kids were sleeping, battered Alison, and then left the kids alone while he drove 14 miles to the creek. He was so offended when he was questioned on this, why wha.. I would NEVER leave my girls alone, but he did. Facts bear that out , so it is possible to kill someone while your kids sleep on.
That's what I think he did that Friday night. And spent Friday night digging a place around that house, yes I know they have searched, they should pull it apart, brick by brick. Or the burial site is close, very close.

Every killer has as much hours in the day as you or me. No more , no less. They have to fit their crime into the same structure of urban living , street lights on, people walking the floor with a new baby, the old man coming home late from a booze up at the club, a kid with a toothache... He had to move fast, between Lyn's last breath and his appointment at the Northside pool for work, plus get the girls up and dressed to take with him.

I , like the judge, discard the drive to the bus stop at Mona Vale to 'go shopping'. It doesn't scan , in time and space, or in any dimension.

I too think Lyn was likely poisoned. It fits with the scenario that it was all a calculated act.
I'm of the opinion that he had 'assistance' from the very start, most probably by a particular member of the family who is older than CD and who has 'had his back' the whole time.
I really can't grapple that Lyn would be buried in the yard of one of their houses. It seems too brazen and weird for me plus the Saturday evening gives him/them plenty of time to go for a drive with some torches and shovels.

agreed troops.
I think quite strongly that she is somewhere on the grounds of bayview.

His lurking around the place every trip back to sydney is weird.
I am quite a nostalic person and am known to do drive by's old homes and haunts from time to time but the new owners stated he suspiciously would be walking around...and approached them and asked them what changes they had made and where and loitered in a strange way.

I don't discount the rubbish dump either. Because of his familiarity with it.

If geoprofiling is applied....using the 'least effort' principle.. On the grounds that we all know instinctively where we are, and we know how to get back using the same track. And we unconsciously choose the route we know best.

In this matter, we know where he started from, and we know where he finished up that Friday//Saturday. A start point, and finish point, and I am assuming that he did not wake the girls and take them with him to hide Lyn's body. He could have, but it is a big jump, and those girls were not babies.

Theory - he kills her between 11pm and 1am Sat. He has 6 hours min, or if he kills her earlier, 8 hours, as he has to be back at home to wake and dress the girls.. say, he has to be back at home by 6.30am. 7am . And then take off for the Saturday job, at Northside pool with the girls.

So that makes it 3 hours out to the hiding place, , hide the body (1hr) and 3 hours back.. so a radius from his home of no more and most likely , a lot less than 3 hours in any direction. This is generous timing, not accounting for the shakes, for creating a hiding place, for taking a few wrong turns, etc,..

So ... Sydney , somewhere, and most likely, Northern Beaches, familiar, cosy, well trodden trails for all his life. On that night, he would not branch out into any unknown territory, with the cargo he has, and the necessity to off load it quickly. Not the night to try a strange freeway,...

That's if her body isn't extremely close to his house. It isn't far away.

( geoprofiling is usually applied when a body is found and the need then is to trace out where the killer started from and where he went back home to, on the grounds that even killers go back home , they don't disappear in a puff of air..

But in this we can postulate on the reverse. We know where he began, we know where he went back to , to pick up his daughters ......we know approx what time he would have started work at the pool. )

Or maybe he put Lynn in the boot of his car until later in the day? (boot = trunk)

  • #778
I think she's at the property or nearby, in the wooded area behind.

I also remember at least one resident said he came by and asked where the police were searching.

Hating this ...but if i were to put myself in Chris's shoes...if ever Lyn's body were found...

If he disposed of Lyn's body away from the home...then the lie still works (in his mind) that she ran away...ran into misfortune somewhere along the way..

But if Lyn's body was ever found somewhere on the properties....it would point the finger directly at him/them....doesn't fit with his lie ...MOO...
...certainly not impossible but difficult to fatham

If it ever happens that her body is found on or near the property, I wouldn't be surprised if he points the finger at JC and says that he didn't know anything about it all these years.

Or... he might say the lies he told were to protect JC, because he thought she may have done it, but had no proof.
