From all accounts of family and friends Lyn was not the type to let her husband or relationship be looked on disfavourably. Lyn protected Chris’s downfalls and covered them up to save the the embarrassment.

Unfortunately this may have been her undoing as if friends were more aware of the violence and mental abuse that was happening in the relationship, they may have alerted the authorities earlier on

Just rereading a few articles. I didn’t realise that Paul was also a sex Ed teacher who was taking advantage of his students including ‘Alice’. Link below

So I have emerged from listening to the remaining podcasts I hadn't caught up with.
Listening to the interviews of Chris, Paul and Marilyn. I am wondering why all three said that Chris was both the father and mother of the children, yet they also all said that she was a good mother and loved her children. What are they trying to imply here? That she wasn't as devoted to her kids as everybody else has said she was? A possible reason that she could up and leave her kids? It's not like Chris was a stay at home dad. They both worked at the time she disappeared.
Thoughts?

While Joanne might have said to the kids not to call them mother, it was obvious she was involved with the parenting of them at least in the fun parts like art as shown in a few of the pictures. Shanelle was only 4 and Sherryn 2 so while she was a very good parent her time with them was so short. Chris really only became a mother to the children in theory after Lyn left. Probably the boys talking themselves up.

I think they were all referring to when Lyn was there, not when she "left".
Just listened to Chris in the episode 'Loyalty", his words were when asked by the detective if Lyn was close to the children- " she was pretty close to them most of the time, then when she returned to work I guess she was a little frustrated she wasn't with the children as often as she liked. I basically became father and mother to Sherrin our second daughter, but she was basically a good mother, yes."
Then Paul and Marilyn said similar, that Chris was basically mother and father. Maybe I'm reading too much into it. I just found it odd, like he was sewing a seed to the detective, which no doubt he was doing throughout the whole interview.

In the example of alleged abuse, witnessed by the first baby sitter Bev McNally, when a glass wasn't clean Lyn got whipped with a tea-towel. Poor Chris probably didn't understand that when both mother and father work that the housework and child rearing need to be shared. This was the early 80s, a lot of wives at the time quit work when they had children and didn't restart some until their kids were a lot older if at all. He had a full time job too but being a teacher probably got longer holidays, so he may have perceived he was doing more raising of the kids while she was in the kitchen cooking him dinner and cleaning up afterwards. At the time of Lyn's disappearance it was school holidays, he probably felt overworked.

I think the 'Chris played mother and father' thing is just part of the Dawson's (Paul, Marilyn & Chris himself) narrative in supporting Chris.

I have no doubt legal brother Peter has been providing coaching on what to say and what not to say, and of course when to appear and when not to.

Dig Extended

The search has been extended beyond the initial five-day plan, with the extensive dig continuing into its sixth day today.

Forensic services are excavating the the soil between the front of the house and the pool.

There are two riot squad vehicles outside the property.

At the weekend, earth-drilling machinery was used to continue excavating rocks, dirt and foundations around the swimming pool of the Bayview home.

A dozen detectives from the homicide squad have been joined each day by police rescue officers and maintenance contractors to sift through unearthed material in search for any trace of the missing woman.

Police have not said whether anything has been found over the first five days of the search.

One of the challenges at the site is how to access an area of soft soil, which was covered by a concrete slab as part of an extension, and it is understood concrete cutting tools are on-site but have yet to be deployed.

Police are working near the soft-soil site but it is understood they are yet to access it.

It appears police have prioritized on the areas less disruptive to the owners first, and perhaps, now not having found anything in those areas, they are now resigned to having to get down and dirty and disrupt the area outside the kids bedrooms and perhaps even under the extension.

yes seems so cliff

however I think they should have simply went straight up for the pink cardy area and the soft soil under the slab.
then spread from there.
(in my completely unprofessional and ill informed perspective :p)

Imagine for a minute Chris did bury Lyn in the 'soft soil' area, the area immediately outside where the kid's bedrooms once were. How would Chris be feeling right now, full in the knowledge (no doubt) that that's where police are about to dig today?
