Deceased/Not Found Australia - Lynette Dawson, 34, Sydney, Jan 1982 *husband guilty* #5

In the latest, and possibly last Teacher's Trial podcast, it is said that Chris Dawson was estranged from his 3rd wife, Sue. This didn't come as a great surprise but I hadn't heard it stated as a matter of fact before. I suspected it, and stated it here, after Greg Walsh's statement outside the court after Dawson had been found guilty.

In a 2018 article I read, it was stated Dawson had been married to Sue for 28 years (so married in about 1990 and virtually straight after his split with JC) but I wonder when the relationship effectively ended?

When Chris Dawson failed to attend the 2001 and 2003 inquests into Lyn's death and the determination was that 'Lyn must have been murdered by someone she knew', it must have raised doubts in Sue's mind and that was 20 years ago.

I did read that quite awhile ago. I don't recall what news outlet it was, but I posted about it here.

Later I thought it must have been incorrect, because I didn't hear about it again.

I was going to add that there'll be no more wives, but who knows ?
Are prisoners here allowed to get married and have "visits" like in some countries.
Also some women are attracted to men in prison. Even ones in for murder.

The 2018 article stated that it was Chris' brother Peter (not his twin Paul) and Sue who posted the surety against Chris' bail and I think it was something like $1.5million.

Yes, prisoners here tend to attract groupie women who write to them, visit them and sometimes go as far as marrying them and then having contact visits with them. That's something I have never been able to understand and I have heard stories of women doing this and when the prisoner is released that they were mistreated and in some cases killed by them.

I definitely read quite awhile back, that CD and Sue had separated.

And then more recently someone posted that Sue would not be giving Christopher Dawson any more money.

Was it an ad in a paper cutting off any financial ties to her or something like that.

First Lyn, then JC and later Sue. Everything points to Chris Dawson having used and abused women almost his entire life.

Does anyone know if there has been or will ever be any financial restitution made to Lyn's two daughters for the value of the family assets which would have been Lyn's at the time she was murdered?

I'm guessing that could only come about as the result of a successful civil action against Dawson? The worry is, Dawson may have nothing left after the cost of his trial and anything that remains could be in someone else's name, so as it can't be sued for.

Someone here posted the application for legal aid a while ago. It said there was $200,000 owed to Sue from her retirement funds and other money owed to family for legal bills. With the appeal being handled by a Public Defendant after Greg Walsh handed over the reins, it seems that he has been successful in getting legal aid.

A couple of the papers have mentioned his property sold for just under $1 million. This doesn't include the house at Coolum Beach.

Property records show a Gold Coast investment property owned by Christopher Michael Dawson and Susan Constance Dawson sold on November 15. It's understood the property sold for just under $1m. The property, on Barnard St, Biggera Waters, includes a three-bedroom main home and a small granny flat out the back.

I do recall saying a while ago that in spite of having had 3 wives, at the end of the day CD has no "little woman" to stand by him. Not even a daughter. Silly man, his vanity, lust and selfishness cost him everything in the end.

I had thought he would have had wife number four on the hook by now.

I read in a newspaper that there were a lot of legal matters to sort through regarding Dawson's Marriages I cannot remember which newspaper it was just after Chris Dawson was found Guilty. I not sure of actual legal laws now but I discussed it with "Understanding Partner" who said the Article had a point and why there was a separation between Dawson and Wife Sue. Also IMO why she stop paying his defence. When Chris married JC he stated in paperwork he was divorced from Lyn which we now know she was dead so Paperwork was not filled out correctly it brings up the question was the their marriage legal. And the his third marriage by stating he is divorced twice, does bring in the legal question of his marriage to Sue. She may have not know the full details IMO, with the so called story Lyn left her family, hearing details from Inquest, even listen on the side about the Podcast The Teacher's Pet, watching family reaction and her husband, Sue formed her own opinon and questioned was her marriage legal then why put out the money. IMO.
I believe it may have been ABC News online Article.
It caught my eye I had a similar situation over fifteen years, when getting married to my husband I explained to the Marriage Celebrant my background, stories brought up in welfare I was not my father daughter rumours ,Celebrant checked my original Birth Certificate, when I asked would I need to take a DNA Test Celebrant said no, I could if I wanted to but no need My Father had filled out and signed my Birth Certificate therefore if I was his bio child or not he had legally claimed me as his child. I had been advised by a friend who was studying to be a Marriage Celebrant to make sure all the paperwork was done properly. I am so glad she did advise me, and I had done it, just before the wedding there was a call from to the Marriage Celebrant a objection to the marriage as it the fact mention above, marriage would not be legal due to Birth certificate etc etc ..... Marriage Celebrant was then delighted to inform the party on the line why the marriage could go ahead, he never had so much excitement in a small country town
So Chris not filling out paperwork can bring things into questions.
Also crossed my mind, IMO, the Dawson family could demand JC to return the Divorce Settlement.

I was sad to read this, Shadow. So much of this goes on behind closed doors. So many chilren traumatised, and scarred.

Here is what I think is probable. I think Dawson had help, not paid help, like a hired killer, I am sure he floated the idea but was put off by the cost, all of them being meaner than mean. Someone in his family circle helped him, either during or after the murder, and that someone is the loose unit in the brick wall, as I see it.

One day... one day.. who can ever forget the matinee jacket right under where the body of an English tourist fell at Uluhru? buried for years by a busy dingo, until one sunny afternoon, someone high up on the Rock misses a step and.....

One day, Dawson will face his 'matinee jacket ' moment.

And Dawson still has other charges to face, I do not believe they will be sunk out of the courts calendar, people still have matters of law to resolve with Dawson. All of that will be done by Zoom, no need for him to ever leave his grey walls at all. Gone are the days when court day was an outing for prisoners.
Thank you Trooper, from my heart.
There are Support Groups for Children in Former Care, I have left Witness Statement with them regarding the Children Home and care and treatment the girls I remember what I saw. Not for me, but any former inmates contact them and tells their story if my statements helps them legal and healing. When I was ten year old, I read the book, "The Hiding Place" by Corrie Ten Boom and her life, it has infulance me. But I stay in the Shadow hense my name and hope and peace shine.. My loving foster family who I am close to, my family and friends who love and understand me has helped me heal and move on. Sometimes I get flashes of the past I cope. Having a sense of humour helps. I see it has given me an strong insight the best and the worst of people.
Seeing Justice for Lyn Simms has helped, the arrest and trial of Claremont Killer very much shook me up I seeked conselling. William Tyrrell being a child in care, and the Julie Cutler Case, being in Perth. They are are or were close for personal reasons. I study other cases in other threads as well
Julia Cutler case her disappearance, that one is close like Lyn's and William, I only just spoken on the thread, I had left Perth few months before she disappeared in 1988. Strange our paths crossed few times yet we did not met ,her best friend (who just left overseas when Julia disappeared) her friend we were in the same Drama school in Perth Julia(on her return to Perth) would have gone with her friend for Theater Games, Workshop or open day, performances upstairs or in the coffee shop I may have walked past her a few times I did not notice at the time as I would not be wearing my glasses at the time due to Vanity. I would catch the bus to go to Perth Airport from1987-1988 in the laneway behind the hotel were Julie worked, also the parking area where she was last seen. Cottersloe Beach where her car was found in the water, I stay over a lot of times at a friends house near by, rehearseling our lines outside the Surf Life Saving Club Building , beautiful old building for some strange reason I always thought as a hotel. Beach Parties or swimming Or helping my friend to do Singing telegrams around Perth(She did the singing,I looked after the clothes pushed the car so she could pop the clutch when it broke down) I think it was moe for safety as Perth was recovering from the Birnies arrests and trial
Lyn Simms case was my first, Trooper, and it hit me hard bringing back flashes of memories, but I was praying for justice for her and her family. I am glad there are more charges are to be down in Court for Chris Dawson, for over the years since Lyn's murder he has done other crimes. IMO
I remember the Tourist incident Ulhrela or Ayers Rock it was called then, he had some kind of breakdown saying people were trying to get him in his last phone call to his family said he was going to Ayers Rock. He did not climb where people used to go up (they have stopped this practise, which I am glad about it was dis repectful) but a seclued area where he climbed up in the dark and fell, while they were scerching for him the jacket was found in a Dingo lair I believe. I remember being on the radio, people in Perth were stunned how fast the events followed afterwards

Good thinking MJ and it would be only fair to add on todays value of a couple of million I‘d say. What about Chris’s assets to help that along.

Any volunteers? :)
All yours ladies. I wouldn't drink a beer if he bought me one and the Dawsons are known for their short arms and deep pockets.

I was looking for the downloadable version of the document which someone published before here and I downloaded.

Instead I found two other judgements relating to the judge only trial and the suppression orders.

This details the reason for the suppression and relates to the influence on the carnal knowledge charge. The specifics of the dates relate to it being in the second half of school year before school ended. 12 December must have been the last day of school for that year in NSW. Maroubra was where his parents lived.

"However, the indictment in the carnal knowledge trial is in the following terms:

“On a day between 1 July 1980 and 12 December 1980, at Maroubra in the State of New South Wales, [Christopher Michael Dawson] did unlawfully and carnally know [JC] a girl above the age of 10 years and under the age of 17 years, namely 16 years and who was at that time a pupil of the said Christopher Michael Dawson.”

I found this amusing.

"The material deposed to by Ms Nygh concerning the searches and search results obtained by her using the term “Chris Dawson Murder” returned literally several million results. It is simply not possible to neutralise this type of publicity. Suppression of what amounts to a less sensational version of the same material that it is anticipated will be led in the context of Mr Dawson’s trial is therefore said to be effectively futile."

This is off his solicitor's website

I wonder what the timeframe is with Chris Dawson's carnal knowledge case? I assume it will still go ahead, regardless of the fact he will be spending the remainder of his life in jail anyway. I guess the priority of it being heard anytime soon is now reduced? Perhaps his appeal, assuming he carries through with one, needs to be sorted first?

The only thing I can find about a trial is in the headline of an article from July 2022 which says the carnal knowledge trial is delayed nine months. It's a subscription article so that's all I've got.
