Police officers remain in critical condition

By Daniela Pizzirani

NSW Police Minister Yasmin Catley says two police officers remain in hospital in a critical condition after they were injured during the attack.

"I'm praying that our officers can get through this and are able to work again," Ms Catley said.
Multiple officers exchanged fire with the two gunmen, with two officers — a constable and probationary constable — suffering gunshot wounds.

Ms Catley said although questions around gun laws were "reasonable", it is important to hear from the experts following an investigation into the attack.

She said her team had the back of the Jewish community.

Bystander tackles gunman in incredible footage

I saw that.
What an incredible hero !!!!
Unbelievable and yet he did it, risking his own life for others.

Ahmed al Ahmed, 43, has been named by relatives as the man fighting one of the terrorists in a video shared widely on social media.

His family said Mr Ahmed, from the Sutherland area of the city, remains in hospital where he has undergone surgery for bullet wounds to his arm and hand.

Thank you, Ahmed al Ahmed !!!

100% BS.

Jervis Bay is south of Sydney, a good couple of hours drive. I don't believe there's any evidence they were there at all, as their Airbnb is only half an hour from Bonnyrigg.

‘Anyone would wish to have a son like my son.. hes a good boy’

How tone deaf does she have to be to come out with a statement like that after what her son has done today?

Your son is a disgusting murderer who took away the lives of innocent people.
Well he's alive and being treated for wounds from the police who also took down the dad, so I think they have the right guy in custody.
Smh.
I get it, not wanting to believe it's your own flesh and blood --but he was captured on video by more than one source (drone footage and at least one bystander that I know of ?).
Sometimes it's better to remain silent.
Imo.

I honestly think she was just trying to process it. Like every neighbor of a serial killer says "he was such a nice guy"

"Dad praises woman

The parents of a three-year-old girl caught in the Bondi Beach terror attack
have spoken of the heroic stranger
who shielded their child as bullets rained around them.

Parents Wayne and Vanessa
spoke of the incredible moment they found their daughter, Gigi,
hidden under the body of a woman who had been shot in the attack."

My comment of "100% BS" was in regards to the mother allegedly saying "he's a good boy".

He's a vile murderer. Of men, women and children, young and old.

A man who survived the Bondi Beach attack has described the moment his best friend died a hero while trying to stop the alleged gunmen.

Reuven Morrison, who serves as an assistant at Bondi's Wellington Street synagogue, put himself in harm's way after meeting his friend Vladimir at the Hanukkah event at Bondi Beach on Sunday.

Rest in peace, Reuven !
May his memory be a blessing.

The death toll from the Bondi Beach massacre has risen to 16 overnight, and includes a child, marking one of the darkest days in the country's history.
Some had been there to celebrate Hanukkah, the
Jewish Festival of Light, which police believed was the intended target of the massacre that has been officially designated a terrorist attack.

NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon also confirmed at least 29 people had been injured.

Rbm.
A full-on terrorist attack.
I think the perp Ahmed grabbed the gun from was the dad; in the evil duo of alleged killers.
Omo.

ADMIN NOTE:

VERY MPORTANT

Effective with the arrest of an individual in Australia sub judice is in effect and will be until a trial has concluded. For anyone not familiar with the judicial principle of sub judice, please review the following.

WS is based in the USA but we do try to manage the various discussions to comply with laws of other countries.

As this case is in Australia, the case is under sub judice so please avoid anything that violates the following principles:

Basically anything that may prejudice the accused’s right to a fair trial
Any suggestion, opinion, or direct accusation that the accused is either guilty OR innocent
(i.e. the accused cannot be called "the killer"; use "the accused", "the alleged killer", or "the defendant")
A defendant’s previous history of any offences is off limits
Scandalizing the court (disparaging judges, lawyers, any officer of the Court) is off limits
Broadcasting anything about proceedings which happen in the jury's absence is off limits
Any non compliance with an Order of the court is off limits

Note in the event of an Appeal subsequent to verdict:
Appeals are usually heard by senior judges who are not likely to be influenced by the media, therefore responsible comment is usually considered acceptable once a trial has concluded, regardless of if there is going to be an appeal.

Posts that are determined to constitute a violation of sub judice will be removed. To avoid this, please review the following from the Victoria Law Reform Commission and post accordingly:
10. Sub judice contempt: restricting the publication of prejudicial information

Shooter held gun licence that entitled him to long-arm firearms

By Maddy Morwood

Gunman Sajid Akram "met the eligibility criteria for a firearms licence", NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon said.

He said the criteria met was for a recreational hunting licence.

"There are two types of hunting licences: the ability to hunt on a property or also as part of a hunting club, or gun club," he said.

The shooter was a member of a gun club and entitled under the Firearms Act to have a firearms licence issued, he said.

Mr Lanyon said the shooter held a Category AB licence, which entitled him to have the long-arm firearms that were used on Sunday.

Here's the latest from the NSW government

By Shiloh Payne

We just heard from NSW premier and police commissioner. Here's what they said:

  • Bondi Beach Public School remains closed due to its proximity to the crime scene.
  • Based on his condition, the 24-year-old shooter in hospital is likely to face criminal charges, Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon says.
  • The premier says 50-year-old gunman Sajid Arkram had a category AB licence that entitled him to own the long arms he did.
  • Gun laws will change in the wake of this tragedy, Chris Minns says.
  • The premier is not sure if security at the Hannukah event held firearms.
  • Off-duty police officers drove to Bondi in response to the attack.
  • The premier is considering recalling parliament to fast-track new gun legislation.
  • There are multiple investigations underway.
