Grandmother named as latest Bondi victim

A grandmother killed in Sunday’s horrific Bondi Beach massacre has been identified, with family remembering her as an “amazing” woman in the wake of the terror attack.

Marika Pogany, 82, is the latest victim of the shooting to be identified.

Ms Pogany has been remembered for her charity work with the organisation Meals on Wheels, having delivered 12,000 kosher meals over her 23 years of service.

I’m not sure if it’s been discussed but I was wondering what the end game plan was here. Did they intend to get them selves arrested? Take their own lives? Or had they planned a getaway?

Mmmm … I did wonder that.

Bondi shooters visited Philippines weeks before beach massacre

Paywalled

Paraphrased:

They traveled in Nov 2025 to the Philippines. AFP investigating where they went & why.

The Islamic State of East Asia ( ISEA ) a branch of the terror group, has been a proscribed terrorist organisation by the Australian government since 2017.

They called the mother & told the story of Jervis Bay & than after that call CCTV ( video in link ) shows Sajid and then Naveed walking from 103 Brighton Avenue, Campsie, about 5.15pm on Sunday.

Naveed deessed in balck adjusts something in the back of the car before getting into the drivers seat & making the 40min drive to Bondi

Less than 90 minutes later the first shots are fired.

Naveed was an unemployed bricklayer, Sajid a fruiterer

Naveed is showing signs he will survive his injuries

Police recovered 4 weapons from the scene & 2 from the rented room in Campsie

Akram’s mother ( Verena) was unable to identify her son from a photo from the scene of the shooting, but said she didn’t believe he could be involved in any violent or extremist activities. She went on to say he doesn't have any firearms, doesn't go out, doesn't mix with friends, doesn't drink, doesn't smoke, doesn't go to bad places, goes to work & comes home , goes to exercise.

Akram was looking for work for abouut 2 months after being laid off from his bricklaying job when the company he worked for became insolvent

Akram went to school at Cabramatta High School

Mother doesn't think he spent much time online, says he loved fishing, swimming , scuba diving & exercising

Akram’s mother is a stay-at-home parent & cares for her elderly mother nearby.

Akram lived at the property with his parents and younger sister, 22, and brother, 20. The three-bedroom property was bought in 2024. The family previously lived in Cabramatta.

To die a Martyr is my guess. I don't think they expected to live.

IMO

We don’t know. There had homemade explosive devices (IEDs) hidden (on/under?) that footbridge and in their car. They may have intended to detonate those before being captured. Pure speculation on my part…

Israel’s ZAKA Search and Rescue team has been deployed to Sydney to assist authorities and the Jewish community in ensuring proper kavod hameit — dignity for the dead in accordance with Jewish law, faith and tradition.

ZAKA’s CEO, Dubi Weissenstern:

Our mission is simple and unwavering: ZAKA is there for every Jew, no matter where they are, in times of crisis.

We bring deep experience from terror scenes, working hand-in-hand with law enforcement to preserve critical forensic evidence, while also ensuring the dead are treated with the utmost dignity and can be buried as quickly as possible in accordance with Jewish law.
ZAKA officials said responders will provide both technical assistance and spiritual support to local communities grappling with the aftermath of the attack.

Sorry for being ignorant but can I ask can Jewish people's only recieve Jewish blood for transfusion.

I had read the bloodline is carried through the female so I was wondering how they feel about receiving blood from a non follower of the faith

I really don't mean any offence I'm just curious

I don't think there is any restrictions in Jewish faith from receiving blood.

No ignorance! We all know things in diverse areas.

A Jewish person is like anyone else…..to receive blood, the donor’s blood must be compatible with the receiver’s blood type.

The only thing I’ve ever heard is that some ultra-Orthodox Jews have refused any kind of surgery that would incorporate a part from a pig, such as a valve or something.

I think Muslims reject that as well.

There have been questions, that the response time by LE could have been faster ?
If there are improvements that could come out of this tragedy -- I'm all for it.
I'm not from Australia so maybe the police were following protocol.

Here's a link to the type of weapons used :

Firearms expert Jonathan Ferguson said the younger attacker was firing a Beretta BRX-1 "straight-pull" hunting rifle, while the older man was using a Stoeger M3000 12 gauge semi-automatic shotgun.
The two gunmen fire more than 30 additional shots
toward the playground in the 90 seconds after they separate, according to audio from the video

Rbm.

"...toward the playground...." 🤬

Evil. Vile. Aimed at children, and probably parents who were crouching over them to protect them with their own lives.
Not enough words to describe the terrorist attackers.

I'm looking back for it but I think in one of the Daily Mail videos, a witness says they heard up to 100 shots before the police showed up ?

A witness report published in the Daily Mail described hearing a high number of shots during the recent Bondi Beach shooting.
A forensic audio expert later analyzed video and audio from the scene and counted approximately 106 audible gunshots in total, fired by both the gunmen and the police.

What was the worst part was when they both were on that footpath/bridge, a clear target for cops to deal with both of them.
As in, do something now, quickly before they kill yet another innocent.
Again the cops need to be careful at all times not to hit an innocent, so there's that ?

No one deserves to be slaughtered while they are innocently enjoying a day at the beach or just going about their business.

This carnage is totally on the two perps, just to be clear.
Imo.

When we donate blood in Australia, they do not record any details of that person’s religion.
As long as the blood type matches (e.g. O-negative), the blood could come from someone of any race or faith

In the podcast I linked earlier today they talk about the police response time etc from about 9 mins.

Here it is

In this video that captures the whole thing, you can hear police sirens already at the very start of the video, probably in transit ( so I assume shots had been fired by the perps before this video starts )

From about the 4:19 mark , I think the police start shooting as the alleged offenders start ducking & trying to take cover ( after the father has returned to the bridge & got another gun ) & you can hear gun shots when you can see that the duo are not shooting at about 4:19, 4:21, 4:39- 4:41 3 shots ( father shot ) , than between 4:45 & 5:57 there are multiple shots exchanged between police & the son, until he goes down at about 5:57.

I don't know where the police were that shot the perps ( looks to me like one was on the side where the father was disarmed & another on the opposite side of the bridge ) , but their aim was pretty good IMO & they neutralised the father within about 20 seconds of starting to shoot?

Thanks my take of the video anyway & all IMO

What do others think?

Warning the video in the link is horrific!

@drsleuth ; Thanks for the link. 😢

Yes, I'd imagine the witnesses will prob. vary from one to another and we may hear or see more video released in the following days ?

Again, the onus of this horror is on the despicable father and son, and no I do not care what their 'cause' was; unless someone else as evil will decide to 'take up' their banner ?
In which case I'd tell LE to do whatever it takes to prevent it from happening again.
Whatever it takes.

Australian singer John Williamson will perform his fabled song “True Blue” before play on Day 1 of the Adelaide Ashes Test tomorrow as a tribute to the victims of the Bondi shootings.

The performance will take place as the cricket world comes together to mourn the victims of this tragedy, support their families, friends and the Jewish community, and to express its unity.

Todd Greenberg, Cricket Australia CEO said:

This is a tragic time for all Australians and the thoughts of everyone in the cricket world are with the victims of this terrible event, their families, friends and the Jewish community.

While sport can seem insignificant at times like this, we have the unusual opportunity to bring millions of people together to pay tribute, to console and to contemplate what we want our nation to be.

As John said recently, ‘I believe in a multicultural society, one where all Australians come together in unity to celebrate our unique multicultural nature and freedoms’.”

We will continue to look at ways cricket can support and honour those who have been affected by the Bondi shootings and thank those who provided assistance during and since this tragedy.

For our overseas mates 🇦🇺

Security to be increased for third Ashes test match, police chief says

South Australia Police Commissioner Grant Stevens tells ABC News that there will be increased police presence at the start of the third Ashes test at Adelaide Oval on Wednesday.

This is for "community reassurance" and there's no intelligence" to indicate an elevated level of threat, he says.

He adds that the officers deployed will carry rifles and be "fully visible", despite no indication that "there are any people in South Australia connected to the Bondi event".
