Liverpool arrest a 'misunderstanding'

By Paulina Vidal

One of the seven men from Victoria arrested on Thursday has told reporters he was in Sydney on holidays and it was all a "misunderstanding".

NSW Police said the arrest came after reports a "violent act was possibly being planned".

Speaking after his release from Liverpool Police Station today, the man said the group had been en route to Manly for a swim when the incident happened.

He said he was "confused" about why they were on police's radar, and was not angry with officers.

"No, no, no, they have their job to do, I don't blame them for nothing, it was a misunderstanding."

He said he didn't know when they would be returning to Melbourne.

What! So 2 people in inner Sydney own 600 guns between them! Who would register this? Unless it's an organisation like security or police.

Yes, it could be two security companies and the journo is seeing the nominated person's name for each company as the owners of the guns, as it seems that the nominated persons are the gun license holders.

When applying for a NSW firearms licence, a business, club or government agency must nominate a licence holder or, if the business is a corporation, a 'nominated person'.

The nominated licence holder or person must complete the application on behalf of the business, club or government agency.

Bondi attack live updates: NSW Police issue strong warning against weekend protests

NSW Police are bracing for “unauthorised” weekend protests and mass gatherings that are being promoted on social media in the wake of the Bondi attack.

“We strongly encourage those planning or attending these events to reconsider. There will be a significant policing response to any large-scale public gatherings, and this is not a time for large gatherings that may heighten tension or create further risk to the safety of the community,” a statement released on Friday afternoon read.

“Anyone considering violence, retribution or vigilante behaviour, should know that police will respond swiftly and decisively.”

“While the NSW Police Force recognises people may want to protest due to recent events both here and overseas, we are asking the community to choose other ways to come together peacefully.”

The police officer vilified online for allegedly ‘freezing’ during Bondi’s terror attack had in fact charged into gunfire and sustained injuries fighting the gunmen.

December 20, 2025 - 5:00AM

Paraphrased:

The police officer ( asked not to be named ) had just dropped of her colleague Constable Scott Dyson & was returning to the station when to collect her partner when she heard of the shooting over police radio an officer had been shot

She immediately drove back towards the gun fight. Her car was struck with 4 bullets as she pulled up, piercing the windscreen

She escaped the vehicle & took cover with bullets just missing her head. She received a burst ear drum, she kept going, another bullet hit her body armor, she kept going.

After the first round of shots, she asked a member of the public to check & see if she had been shot, she hadn't.

She was able to take fire at one of the gunman, which allowed Detective Senior Constable Cesar Barraza to flank to shooters & take his shots

Sajid Akram was shot seconds later , fatally wounded, his son Naveed was also shot & wounded

The female officer was hit with a shot gun pellet believed to be fired by Sajid. One pellet went through her Kevlar vest, and exited near her neck.

The injury initially was believed to be from the shot but it was later established the pellet heated up as it travelled through the Kevlar and burnt her skin.

The photo of her arms in the air directing people away from the bridge was taken after the above

This photo has been spread widely on SM as the officer "freezing" or being "frozen"

The female officer was also at the Bondi stabbing massacre in April 2024 where she gave CPR to one of the victims, who later died.

OMG, this poor officer. My thoughts are with her. :(

Mr Bitton was formally identified after his father flew in from Israel and recognised him as the man wearing a red shirt in widely shared footage showing someone running in to assist Ahmed al Ahmed as he disarmed one of two mass shooters.

Alleged Bondi beach gunman visited firearms shop during Philippines visit, local police say

Investigation centres on pair’s movements outside the GV hotel, where they stayed throughout their time in the country

The pair’s movements outside the GV hotel, where they holed up throughout their time in the country, have become the centre of the investigation.

Rosete said police were also investigating the mobile numbers they used during their stay, and the pair’s contacts.

“We are also determining their activities, their support networks. We are investigating and gathering intelligence information,” Rosete said.

“The father has shown interest in firearms. He entered a firearms shop,” Rosete said, adding that the store was located in the city.

He also referred to CCTV footage of the two in a “jog walk” that lasted about an hour around the vicinity of the hotel. Rosete said this appeared to be “physical conditioning” exercises.

‘We did nothing wrong’: seven men released from custody in Sydney deny Islamist links

After being held for 24 hours, the men say they had been driving to a holiday rental when they were detained by police

Speaking after their release from custody at Liverpool police station, the men said they did not have links to any extremist views and they were driving to their Airbnb while on holiday in Sydney.

“We didn’t do nothing wrong, there was nothing found on us,” one of the men told reporters after being released.

The group believed they had been targeted due to their appearance and religion.

“My head got smashed, I was bleeding all over my head. They were like ‘bloody terrorists’,” said another man who walked out of the station with his head heavily taped.

Their lawyer in Sydney, Ahmed Dib, said the men were considering legal action.

But a magistrate approved a special warrant under counter-terrorism laws, allowing the seven men to be held until Friday night without charge.

The men were believed to have arrived from Victoria on Wednesday, and all were known to Victorian police, Lanyon said. No firearms were found in the cars, but one knife was seized.
