Australia - Russell Hill & Carol Clay Murdered While Camping - Wonnangatta Valley, 2020 #9

In his mind a necessary job that had to be done...

I'm sure he gives himself credit that he was able to do what was "needed" to maintain his lifestyle.
I just don't get how anyone could do that. Driving with bodies in the back. And thinking he got away with it. What was he thinking all the time before his arrest??? 'How smart am I?'

I found Haddrick's book so much better than Robin Bowles personally.
A lot of stuff in there we didn't know about. ie being stung by his bee's &, than not being able to fly for 6 months etc, allowing the cops to continue "listening" to GL

Fascinating read.
I found the same .. Haddrick's book had a lot more info that Robin Bowles. I've read a few of her books and have thoroughly enjoyed them but for some reason, this book just didn't have the oomf that Haddrick's did.

One bit that stood out to me was the timing of the 'vehicle doing a 30 point turn' at 2am and not midnight as I had
previously read in numerous articles.

Quoting myself

Or so he thought :) His favoured lifestyle, exclusive gun clubs etc has gone poof...

He failed in the cover up, not half as smart as he thought he was. Pretty dumb actually.

Just be aware that much of the juicy stuff in Greg Haddrick's book could be fiction. Really detailed conversations, that clearly cannot have been recorded for his purposes, and he admits that he has 'imagined' some of the dialogue. There is also at least one item presented as fact that is absolutely incorrect, so take it with a grain of salt and enjoy it as entertainment, not as gospel.
What is the 'one item presented as fact that is absolutely incorrect' ???

Libraries Aust. have it catalogued under the 364.1523 Dewey designation, as non fiction. That's good enough for me, far better than some anon poster with no details at all!

Haddick claims in the postscript, that all of what he reports Lynn said in his interviews, he said... fair enough, I'll take that as correct, since VICPOL makes no objection.

I have no problem with somebody claiming ' one item presented as fact is absolutely incorrect' but it needs to supported by details of what it is they are claiming is absolutely incorrect.

You'd think it would be the one thing the poster would have been more detailed about...~~!!

The part where it quotes the fictional story Lynn told the Police perhaps? ;)

Just (officially) received my copy of 'The Dead Of Night' and have all but finished the book I am currently reading too. Timing!

Merry Christmas to all.

Hope I can say that here without getting Grinched.

Dear Websleuths Members and Guests,
It is truly hard to fathom the gut wrenching pain people feel who don't know what happened to their missing loved ones. Especially this time of year. What's so frustrating is there are hundreds if not thousands of unidentified bodies/remains all over the country waiting to be tested but because of budget issues no testing is taking place. Their families are suffering waiting to find out what happened to their loved ones. You can help those families get the answers they deserve and, at the same time, make sure those obnoxious ads stay off of Websleuths.com. Become a monthly subscriber to DNA Solves.com. The amazing people at DNA Solves work night and day to identify the missing.

Ok I read the Haddrick book, an interesting read, and it did fill in some gaps.

Read in one go, I had to stop myself from turning into a pedant, when I found the first grammatical error.
And I thought maybe they could have employed me to proofread :D

For us who have been following here, and others following closely it may have seemed there was not much we didn't already know, but for many who only followed through tv news or online news it may have seemed very enlightening.

I am still part way through the book, just got it last night and have been reading as time allows. It raises a few (maybe irrelevant) points for me.

One I can think of, off the top of my head, is when Lynn is having a hissy fit in the car and saying to the radio that 'they just won't leave it alone, I put a 2nd trigger lock on the gun' (or words to that effect).
What was that about? His gun couldn't have been involved, it had two trigger locks?

Another thing was, near the start of the book, the detectives were also wondering about Lynn's possible involvement with the other people who have gone missing in the High Country.

And Button Man wasn't such a vagabond. He said 'of course I have a phone, I am not a Neanderthal'. :D

Pretty good reading so far. Especially about the officer from Perth who was going to help.

Given the circumstances, it would surprise me if that didn't occur to them.

I believe it refers to this:

Driving alone on May 4 2021, after a radio story about the couple’s disappearance, Mr Lynn said to himself; “They’re sitting on a beach in f--king Queensland. Nudist beach. Butt naked. Playing on his f--king drone.

“Running up and down the beach. Taking pictures of the young people. Who’s got the biggest d**k?”

Another story about the couple had played on the radio earlier that day as he was driving. The court had heard Mr Lynn then turned up the volume on his radio and said: “I put a f***ing trigger lock on it. You’ve gotta get a second set of trigger lock f***ing keys and stick them in there. ... They’ve just got to keep pushing all the time, don’t they?”

Note the reference to Hill's drone.

I don't get what he's on about with the trigger lock and second set of keys.

Wow, he's such a charming gentleman, isn't he? Still, he's probably in good company in his present accommodation.

Note the reference to Hill's drone.

An interesting thing about the drone ... Russell would see (live) what the drone was seeing when looking at his phone.

It was mentioned in the book how everyone turns their phones off in the valley - no reception, saves on battery drain. Including Carol and Lynn.
But not Russell (when he had his drone) because he would be watching what the drone was seeing, on his phone's screen. Others had seen him doing this the previous week when he was there.
So his phone was fortunately still on when Lynn drove away with it (and Russell and Carol and the drone).

Unluckily for Greg Lynn :D
And I bet he went over his to do list a few times before he left.

I think I'll be going down to the library to borrow the book tomorrow as I can see there is a copy available. :)

I've wondered how far investigators went with looking into the other missing people in the high country. The type of car he was driving would have needed to be filled up fairly regularly. Given what we know now, just having his car at a petrol station within 100km of where the others went missing would be sus!

Add the fact his vehicle had gone from white to blue to beige. Sus is an understatement.
