It is sad but it’s the way of the world; there is usually a nasty motive. It sounds like this man wanted to recreate a childhood playmate. Still sinister, but I wish all kidnappings ended like this one did.

Yeah. Feels like this guy needs some hardcore psychiatric care more than a prison cell to be honest.

The real question is whether or not his victim will ever feel safe, knowing her kidnapper will be set free in 13 years. Did he only get 13 years because he didn't kill her? Like a "reward"?
13 years seems so minimal.

That's assuming there aren't still secret charges for victims privacy

Yeah. Feels like this guy needs some hardcore psychiatric care more than a prison cell to be honest.
He needs both like most people in prison

Although in the article about his appeal it says he's been diagnosed with a personality disorder, doesn't say which

If that is accurate and depending which one, the fact is some personality disorders currently have no effective treatments

I'm so glad to hear that Cleo is doing well but I really do wish the parents would stop putting her in the spotlight. Perhaps it is a condition of the Nine News payout of $2 million the parents received for the exclusive interview. She is of the age now she can access all the media coverage of her horrific ordeal. Hopefully Cleo has received ongoing psychological health checks.

Maybe her parents just want to be normal and celebrate their child’s milestones and achievements - not dissimilar to many proud parents around Australia.

I love that they’re not shying away from her name or who she is, and why should they have to hide for the rest of Cleo’s life?

They’ve done nothing wrong, and I love her parents’ approach to parenting after this adverse life event.

IMO

I appreciate your point of view @Ellery84 and certainly didn't mean to infer that her family shouldn't celebrate Cleo's achievements and milestones as any proud parent would. I also understand the public's interest to see how she is flourishing. My concern is only for the child forever being linked to and reminded of her ordeal with Terence Kelly.

No, I know and I wasn’t having a go at you.

I’m sure her parents also would want to never be reminded of any links to that criminal kidnapper. He’s abhorrent.

It’s neat to see that C is doing so well, and I noticed in that gymnastics award photo that’s been published that she’s been able to grow her hair out. That in itself is a great victory, considering that 🤬🤬🤬 cut it off when he kidnapped her.

Wishing C and her family all the best for a bright future.

It really is a wonder to share such sweetness, when we all were soooo worried and distressed as we lived this case......

Hi @nhmemorymaker -
I agree, (imo) it's a sheer delight to see C beaming with health, pride, joy & more than anything *victorious* - not the wan, pale, *brave* & terrified little face, as she's spirited away from the evilness that had been her unwanted life for 18days & not some equally disturbing bratz doll image - we (the public) in our worst nightmares & uninformed imaginations had manifest.

In years to come, it may help C, to have these publications - who knows how she will process the trauma - as she grows, it's not even up to us (the public) to judge - I cannot imagine her suffering & parent's suffering for the duration of those long days, locked in a room, even now it sickens me to contemplate her anguish, fear, feeling of aloneness.

& IF in the future C decides to do cartwheels, down the main street of Perth dressed in a dolphin suit OR anything else - whatever she does, I say we support her & her parents, in my book, C is an Aussie *hero*.
MOO
Edited - reformatted, quote/reply - strikes again, sigh

“Cleo Smith’s kidnapper Terence Kelly has learned his fate after lawyers appealed the length of his sentence.

Judges Robert Mazza and Stephen Hall agreed the 13 and half year sentence imposed by Judge Wager reflected the seriousness of Kelly’s crime.”
