Well explained Ausgirl. I've obviously been hiding under a rock.

"You've been a bad girl"....sort of foreplay to rough sex?

It can be,, but not, I firmly think, in this particular instance. For a start, his predatory/manipulative behaviour had been escalating since he turned the recording device on. He doesn't say it in those moments when he's succeeded in calming her -- he speaks it at the very highest point of her terror and vulnerability. It carries a great deal more mockery and snide power assertion, while also sounding like a line from a bad 🤬🤬🤬🤬 movie - like something he's rehearsed in his head, you know?

I'd honestly be less inclined to take that simple sentence so very seriously as I am, were not for his history of frightening women in car parks and stalking drunks girls... were it not for the obvious enjoyment he'd gotten from scaring girls on his balcony before, by picking them up... and the horrible manipulation I can witness in the transcript. Were it not for the fact that I truly believe he was recording his cruel, manipulative behaviour for future amusement and self-lubricated enjoyment. And the sheer nastiness of his words preceding, the anger I *do* see in those, the sheer rage -- and then this suddenly "playful" phrase pops out, out of nowhere, out of context with what's happening..

Nope, that's a rape script. I have to look it that way. Never mind the physical 'rape' part, that wasn't what got him off - it's all about his perception and enjoyment of control and power.

What I am not entirely clear on at this point is whether he truly intended her death. I can, however, fully see Tostee potentially losing control of his fantasies. Like he did, when he thought he was in a Hollywood car chase... And I think it was less a matter of 'whether' something like this would happen but of 'how soon', with him.

I wonder if there are other things that indicate whether Tostee (or his recording device) was inside or outside at various times. Like maybe music that was playing in the apartment, or road noises that could be heard from the balcony.

It sounds as if police have spent some time there, and maybe at that exact time of night on the same night of the week, to see what the inside and outside environment sounds like on their own recording, as well as sliding the door open, sliding it closed, locking and unlocking it - as a comparison.

Just a thought re the doors. I'm wondering if they're on a timer of some sort and automatically close after a set time.

I keep thinking of his misc post about the other balcony girl and his reference to her "lust-filled trance", and Ausgirl's words, about "but you've been a bad girl" being some sort of gateway to a role play.

(I will be staying in a Gold Coast high rise this coming Friday & Saturday nights by coincidence. I think I had better take some chrystals :freakedout:)

Those are both strange and awkward phrases, maybe favourite ones from his fantasies.

I'm not sure about the 'gateway to a roleplay' bit, with him... roleplay suggests there's a clear line between fanatasy and reality, under all the scripting. It also suggests a mutual, consensual understanding, that even if the 'play' is rough, it's a *mutually* fulfilling fantasy.

I moreso see it in Tostee's case as having little to do with anything 'mutual' - quite the opposite, he is supremely unconcerned with Warriena's enjoyment, by the end of that tape. I see these odd, off-kilter phrases as aspects of long-term fantasies (of control, not necessarily *sex* but certainly a sexual thrill, if that makes sense) bursting out in moments when reality is somewhere close to what's been going on in his head. Like when he has girls in a position where he's the one in control - physically, mentally, I'm not sure he minds which, even.

And "lust-filled TRANCE". Trance - think about that choice of word right there. The girl is in her 'trance', and therefore not in control of herself. He says it like being filled with 'lust' is a weakness, something that she can't control -- implying that he thinks he *does* have control, over his own lust, over hers. He "snaps her out" of it, this hypnotic state he's sneering at her for, by doing something she rightly perceives as utterly terrifying. She's so scared, she leaves... and I defy ANYone with half a brain to read that post and not see his glee in her terror, and his own sense of superiority.

I believe Tostee, like many addicts (his addiction being sex ofc), and also having some serious personality disorder stuff going on, was no longer satisfied with the thrill of mere sexual chase-and-conquest. He speaks of feeling empty... well, yes. He's an addict, and he has to up the ante to feel anything now. It's no longer sex that makes him feel 'alive'. It's control, power... the alpha fantasy.

A sadistic rapist in the making... maybe. It's not out of the question, at all, in my opinion.

Alleged Gold Coast balcony killer Gable Tostee was frightened in jail, documents claim

December 03, 2014 12:00AM

GOLD Coast playboy Gable Tostee complained of “struggling” in prison and was frightened when another prisoner snuck into protective custody to speak to him.

Tostee recounted the bizarre approach from another prisoner – which led to action from Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre’s general manager – in an affidavit filed in the Supreme Court.

“I am struggling in prison,” the Gold Coast carpet-layer wrote in an affidavit.

“I accept that the stress of my situation will exacerbate my symptoms but I am very concerned that as the months pass by, I am becoming more and more distressed and unwell. My memory, concentration and ability to prepare my defence are all deteriorating over time.”

^ Yah right. Like he had "autism" for the counterfeiting case.

  • #911
Oh .. <modsnip>. He was scared, and his condition (the OCD or the social anxiety??) could have got worse in jail, and someone snuck in and spoke to him!

Well, now I understand why he was let out on bail into the protective custody of his mummy and daddy.

Maybe Debra Mullins will now receive an influx of letters from all the other prisoners who are scared and have increased anxiety in jail. Will she let them all out on bail? :shakehead:

Well. At least she doesn't have to pay particular concern to his "autism" anymore.

Automatically closing balcony doors? I gotta get me some.

I so agree. Our wonderful police risk their lives to get these ***** behind bars and the judicial system lets them walk.
Do you think well see a "Gittany moment" and GT get put away again?
It sounds to me our boyz in blue have got a wonderful witness and still doing work in lowering a female cop over the balcony.

I'm angry too but patience is my friend.

Ohhh what a wonderful Letter of Remorse. Pitch perfect. Addresses most of the points raised here. Sad panda face; he's woken up to a nightmare of his own making. Curious. Mention of potentially causing harm through his use of a car as a deadly weapon. But no mention of causing actual death through his use of alcohol/physical strength/mental cruelty.

IMO this letter is a lawyer's strategy and who knows what more his team will do to rehab his image. Those of you who predict a new connection to God, are probably onto something. In my day, getting "reborn" was at least good for a lighter sentence. Thank goodness that particular hack is losing its usefulness. Damn atheists, eh?

I feel it in my bones that he out-and-out murdered this beautiful and kind, worthwhile young woman. If he swans around for another few weeks or months or even a couple of years, so be it. It sucks but so be it. IMO he is a very dangerous entity but Justice Mullins has determined that he be free to roam, within certain difficult-to-monitor parameters. And already he is straining against those conditions. IMO he is straining against those conditions because he is not truly contrite and the contrition presented in his Letter is false and misleading.
I only want to see Justice to be done.

This is new to me:

Warriena Wright was seeing and hearing things and claimed she would "jump off the balcony" about 40 minutes before plunging to her death, lawyers for Gable Tostee say.

The claims were contained within bail application documents made available to media last week, after being tendered by his lawyers in the Brisbane Supreme Court.
...
"...She appears to be seeing/hearing people who are talking to her...the deceased says she wants to look out the window. [Mr Tostee] says 'Don't jump off, or anything'...The deceased says 'No, I'm good'," the affidavit said.

...His lawyers claim Ms Wright then armed herself with a heavy object and Mr Tostee managed to restrain and lock her out on the 14th-floor balcony in self-defence...

And so it begins.....the denigration of Warriena.

Just as they do to countless other innocent victims!!
