I read an article, I think it was a few years back, which said that of rewards that were paid, most went to police officers. It wasn't just speculation; somebody had researched it, might have been in Victoria.
How is it possible that reward money could be issued to police officers.. aren't rewards given for 'tips' or information leading to arrest/conviction? And if so, wouldn't such information sharing be part and parcel of a police officer's job, as opposed to something else which should be rewarded? If the government, corporations, citizens, are adding to a reward pot, wouldn't that leave a bad taste in their mouths if that money ended up being issued to police officers? Just wondering?

I think that was the point of the article. Normally, the public doesn't know who, if anyone, receives a reward. I wish I'd tried to track down the research the article was referring to at the time. I don't think the article itself gave any examples to explain in what circumstances police officers were able to claim rewards. When the subject of how seldom rewards were paid came up here after the William reward offer, I remembered the article and tried to find it again, but I couldn't.

its hard to understand why you wouldnt give info for a huge reward like this, especially if you were just someone on the outside who knew the truth, you could remain anonymous and just quietly move away with the money? surely more than just the perp knows what happened to william?

In 1995 ICAC refererred a matter to the Woods Royal Commission regarding possible collusion between organised paedophile networks and members of the legal profession, senior ranking police, politics AND media. Google Colin Fisk for more info.

History repeats...or more likely....never actually went away.

Or maybe a person's 'significant other' knows what likely happened to William .. or can establish that an alibi is false?

I was going to post the pics that are getting around on Facebook, but don't know whether that's ok or not.
I do agree that the ears look different though ... but still I can understand why people see the similarity. I guess I'm hoping for a miracle.

Thanks for posting this concealed-pic update, bearbear. :seeya:

This FB poster's initial behaviour is just not on imo. Where was the protection for this little boy? People should really not being posting pictures of other people's children, without their parents/carers consent.
Reporting to police is as far as this should have gone. Let them deal with it.
I am glad the pic was removed. It should be removed everywhere that it may have travelled.

New post from the official where is William Tyrrell facebook page. Hope it is ok to post sincere apologies if not.

"Detective Inspector Gary Jubelin leading Strike Force Rosann has been directly informed about the photograph of the little boy that some are suggesting may be William which has been circulating via social media. The Where’s William? Campaign would like to thank you for your support and for bringing this to our attention and to the attention of Police. However, as William’s abduction is a Police matter, please resist from reporting this photograph again. The Task Force has a great deal of work to do in their investigation and the more this is reported unnecessarily, the more of their precious time dedicated to finding William is wasted. If anyone suspects a child is William or has any information about William’s abduction, rather than circulate these sorts of images on social media, please contact Crime Stoppers or Police immediately on 1800 333 000. Thank you for your ongoing support. It means a great deal to all those who love William."

I feel bad for the little boy's family. The person who posted the photo should be punished. That it's not him is a perfect example of why vigilante justice is dangerous. Mistaken identity can have terrible consequences.

Yes it can have terrible consequences. There are pedos that thrive on internet pics of children. There are people who don't want others to know their location due to domestic abuse or child abuse issues. There are a small myriad of reasons why you just don't do this.

If a parent/carer decides to post pics of their kids on their private page, that is their business, but all children deserve more protection than this kind of posting among people who do not personally know each other. It is very irresponsible, and I am disappointed that some people do not use more common sense.

also, if william was ever sighted, the public posting could endanger his life and or force him back into hiding, so better to just contact police
