FWIW, my reading is that "the bushland" is used loosely and includes the residential area. William (alive) was there; they seek to confirm that he/his body is no longer there or nearby. I don't take the inference that the body has been moved.This is also interesting ....

Maybe, along with forensics and circumstantial evidence, this will lead to a court case in time.
I don't think the police have any doubt that William was taken. But most of us here have moments . . . what if they missed him in the drain, what if he fell in a tank and the lid flipped back in place, what's behind that pile of earth etc. Even if we think otherwise most of the time. Police don't want to lose a case to a jury having a collective 'moment'.
