also if ps returned from his walk at about 8.50am he may well have had the opportunity to hear as well as see WT on the back porch or around that area when returning from the walk, that is if he returned via the bush track has his return route been established?
Google Maps
in regards to gj's questioning ps about having william in his direct line of sight from the area he was last seen could well be incorrect. but there is a good chance that wt would have been in his direct line of sight when he was playing on the driveway with his bike at 9.30 am. ps claims he went inside some time between 9.30 and 9.45 and did not see the children at all. that is very bad luck as he could well have seen not only wt but the teal coloured car as well. just turn it 180 degrees.

JLZ posted earlier (see below) that Savage has told investigators that he returned from his walk up Benaroon Drive from the start of the road at the bottom of the slope.

I think Savage likely had multiple opportunities to observe William that morning, from different vantages. Climbing the tree, with FM's help. Running around the outside of the house playing chasey. Riding bike in the driveway.
Sounds as if the children were playing outside for a good chunk of the morning before William disappeared.

According to the article linked by Wex, Savage's walk took him up the fire trail, deep into the bush, and eventually brought him around to Batar Creek Road, so he returned home via the regular end of Benaroon Drive. And it seems to have taken about two and a half hours, including the time spent with caravan lady. I wondered whether he returned to Batar Creek Road via Cedar Loggers Lane. I don't know why--the walk is too early to have anything to do with William. Unless this is where he really went after 11, having briefly secured William somewhere before his wife went out, perhaps in one of his sheds or somewhere on the Millers' property.

Savage not appearing today as lawyer not available. We will only hear from one witness. Just tweeted by Lia , trying to link but having trouble
Then continue without him, or lawyer should have organised a stand in. This inquest has been organised for a long time. What a waste of taxpayers' money and making a joke of the process. IMO.

In the late afternoon of that day, Mr Savage also saw a vehicle he believed to be a Land Rover Freelander visit the home of William’s foster grandmother.

I understand the family arrived well after dark. It was pitch black when they stopped by the roadside shortly after the McDonalds visit. Probably a misrecollection--I trust it's not yet another car checking to see if the family had arrived yet.

Wonder where PS was when he saw that car. What was his direct line of sight?

I agree. If the lawyer was not available why weren't any of the others who are to be called for the Taree portion of the inquest brought forward.

Yes, this article. Details of ‘deeply troubling’ police grilling of Tyrrell person of interest And so far it's only Savage's word as to where he went.

The thing is, Spedding apparently had that vehicle on loan from his good buddy after the police took his vehicles to forensically test them.

So what is Savage doing? Describing a vehicle that he 'thinks' belongs to Spedding and that Spedding would have been driving when William disappeared?

I think I must have missed something. Did Savage loan Spedding a car when his were taken by police?

I wonder if Geoff Owen gets the timber for his patio work directly from the sawmill, seeing that he seems to operate his business from Logans Crossing.
I am wondering if the need for the search arose from some of the evidence that was heard in secret.

IIRC, someone did. They said when the boy in Spedding care won an award he looked over and saw BS give approving nod. I will look back and see what page in this thread it was posted.
Yes he did, but then he clarified and said he didn't know which day the assembly was on though, so there has thus far been no confirmation of BS being there. It was Mr Weigold giving his evidence.

You'd think that Angela would have noticed if they were clients of hers. IMO.

Edited to add: Sorry was catching up when I posted. Didn't realise this had already been clarified by other posters.

There was Gordon Wiegold the other day, he remembered he saw the Speddings the day of the Hallelujah singing and the child's award.
But then he said he couldn't remember which day the assembly had been on. So no definite confirmation.

Yes I agree but I recall speddings saying a friend was with them that day and there would be photos to verify ? Wonder where this person is or who for that matter
Exactly. And where are the photos?

Yeah, you'd think so!! Maybe same kids got rewards over and over though lol...like the good kids always trying so always get something at every assembly. Have known that to happen a lot. Who knows though!
Most primary schools have weekly awards at assemblies. It's a way of giving positive encouragement and something to strive for, from experience.

  • #1,973
School newsletters might have that info even if permanent records weren't kept of assembly awards?
The teachers would have the records and if the award was a certificate it would be dated.

I don't think there's any doubt that an awards ceremony was held that day; the doubt is whether BS was there. IMO.

I'd lay bets now that the Speddings were there, but as I said, for it to be completely confirmed we need to hear that the singing and the award uniquely identify the day. I also want confirmed the start time and duration of the assembly.

I believe there are more witnesses listed to appear in relation to the school assembly.
Then surely they could've been called today instead of wasting time, you'd think JLZ.

Or if they have spare time, for heaven's sake give Jubelin a go. He'd know about the assembly one way or another, you could bet your bottom $. IMO.

Sorry. Just ignore me. My brain seems to have gone on holiday. I get what you mean now.

At no point have I doubted the assembly itself took place. I mean school newsletters often list names of award winners. If we're wondering if BS's kid of interest was a winner that day.

Do they keep permanent records of weekly merit certificates though? I wouldn't necessarily think they would, outside of newsletters, social media posts, etc. Maybe they do when they have a system where smaller awards accumulate into bigger "principals awards" and the like. With the merits my kids got, I never got the impression it was the kind of thing the school would be keeping track of.

The hairdresser said she didn't even know if she saw Margaret that day either. And the other witness doesn't seem to have said anything about Margaret, going by the tweets.

Or perhaps just leave it for Laidlaw to say when he testifies. The police must have spoken with all of these witnesses already.
Perhaps police still don't believe that Spedding's alibi has been confirmed? (They surely would have checked to see if Hallelujah was sung at other assemblies.)
Otherwise I see absolutely no reason for the 'school' witnesses to have appeared at the inquest.

OFF TOPIC.... I know this goes against empowering women and reducing negative behaviours..... but.... Jubes has been looking mighty fine this week; calling it as I see it!

EDIT.. apologies in advance...

thankyou, could ps have mistaken the vehicle type, they look pretty similar?
Green & red? Don't think so bear, unless he turns out to be colour blind, as red/green is a known colour blind problem. I think he was possibly more trying to caste suspicion BS way, as he had a reddish wagon.
