I thought Laidlaw was the manager of the Coronial police investigation unit (as well as head of the cold case unit).
He was when the Coronial Unit was first set up, some years ago….. but I thought he had moved on from that role, to in charge of Cold Case …. But JMO as I don’t have a reference .

In 2007, he led the Coronial Investigation Team which developed closer working relationships between police and the NSW State Coroner’s Office.

He is a member of the SIDS Advisory Committee with the State Coroner’s Office and NSW Health, advising on children who die from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

He was one of the presenters in a webinar in March this year about "Death Certificates and coronial processes - engaging with coronial pathway partners".

The intro makes it sound as if he was still involved with the Coronial team in March 2023.
Maybe something has happened since March, and he is no longer part of that team.

Detective Chief Inspector David Laidlaw APM

Investigation Coordinator, Coronial Liaison and Review Team, Unsolved Homicide Team, Homicide Squad, State Crime Command, NSW Police

DCI Laidlaw joined NSW Police in 1977 and has worked in Major Crime Squads (primarily Homicide Squad) since 1995. Becoming Manager of the Coronial Investigation Team in 2007, DCI Laidlaw acts as liaison between NSW Police, the Coroner and NSW Health Pathology.

Thanks for that info SA … I hadn’t read that before ..(or maybe I had forgotten as the RACGP is ringing a bell ….. )

We know there is ”no love lost” between GJ and Craddock (from Jube’s Book) … I am starting to wonder if there is “no love lost” between Craddock and all Police????

Just a thought ….

But agree that Craddock was definitely making a point today!

IMO

I think that Craddock just likes to run his own race, with no interference? IMO

Maybe.

I am expecting the Coroner to be quite critical of the NSW Police in her report.

Was just reading Craddock's CV (there is a link to it within this link).
He has been a prosecutor for both the State DPP and the Commonwealth DPP.

Just thought that was interesting, with Craddock distancing the Coronial team from the police submission to the DPP.

Do you think her “recommendations“ will go as far as a Public Enquiry?

Maybe.

I am expecting the Coroner to be quite critical of the NSW Police in her report.

She did say that there would be a time to discuss the police handling ( or words to that effect ) and that the inquest was not the time - Said when Mr O'Brien tried to bring it up a few times.

I think there will be some sort of mention in her findings, I mean how could she not say anything about the Police and the initial bungling of the search. IMO

I love that Laidlaw is saying that the truth will come out in this jurisdiction or another.

He doesn’t look like he is giving up IMO.

Trying to save face more likely IMO

Thanks for the reminder Doc…. .
I agree there will be definite recommendations … and it is usual for Government Departments to implement those recommendations ….

William Tyrrell inquest to be advised on foster mother’s potential charges

The Director of Public Prosecutions will give advice by January next year on the viability of laying charges against William Tyrrell’s foster mother, a court has been told, after police submitted a brief of evidence suggesting the woman could be charged with concealing the toddler’s accidental death.

IMO that’s false & misleading headline.

as stated in that same article, Craddock stressed that the Inquest will not be notified: ‘ That advice won’t come to us, because it’s not a request for advice by this court or anyone associated with this court,” he said.

(Perhaps the reporter is hiding behind the fact that every media outlet would be reporting on any charges, so it would be strange if Craddock’s team failed to become aware ! )

Seems to me that the Coroner didn't support the action taken by NSWPF IMO

We’re certainly all entitled to our interpretation, however I didn’t draw the same conclusion as you Dr.

The thing that immediately struck me earlier today when I heard Craddock’s comments was that there was an attempt to put to bed any of the ‘theories’ that have been thrown around / any hint of any association with the news of this Inquest Hearing and any charges or potential charges against the former foster carers.

Sounds to me that you have the same interpretation. Just drsleuth took it one step further.

The Coronial team distanced themselves from the brief sent to the DPP. To dispel any theories that they might promote or agree with such an action.

I thought perhaps FFC's lawyer had been applying to the coroners court (among other places) for information about the police case against her. So the court was answering that they don't know and won't know.

And they had to tell that to the whole inquest? I doubt it.

If the lawyer applied for such information, the application would be rejected or approved. Just like they reject or approve the release of Coronial documents. It is not done by announcement in the public court.
