It is entirely possible, based on the people she knows (other druggie parents other druggie family members(?) and their home life, etc.) she honestly doesn't think she's that bad, if she's comparing herself to some of the worst of the worst she's seen or knows. I know it sounds unthinkable to parents who'd never endanger their kids the way she clearly did, but if that's all she is familiar with, that's all she's got to compare herself to.

While I would never defend TG in a million years, I honestly do think she loved her kids. In whatever way she knew how. I think the drugs and the lifestyle that came with it just swallowed her up, the same way it does to anyone who chooses to use, then becomes an addict.

MOO & all that good stuff.

I agree. It's hard to break out of a bad situation when you don't know that it's bad. I also think TG and other druggies lack insight into their lives and compartmentalize their behavior.

You can see it in their social media. Mothers facing trial for murdering their children post comments condemning other mothers for their actions. Mothers starving their kids post recipes on FB. Call them a liar and they turn vicious – even though they really are lying.

Apart from the drugs though, I think TG saw her place in the community as being an important, tough person that no one messes with and that persona was exciting to her. Witness her drama and her comments in msm – she enjoyed being the center of attention. Why give that up for the boring life of a mom?

And there was at least one positive role model (SW) in her life who tried to help and one relative who repeatedly got on her case regarding her home life with the girls. If TG had decided to turn herself around she would have had the support of these people.

TG had an opportunity each time her kids were removed from her, each time she was arrested - heck, even each time Ralphy was arrested – to think long and hard about the dead end street she was traveling on.

Instead her focus was running a drug operation. I get the difficulties of overcoming drugs (and probably an awful upbringing) but if losing her child due to that lifestyle didn't wake TG up then sadly, it's unlikely anything ever will.

For that reason all we can hope for is that she's removed from society so she can no longer contribute to the destruction of other lives.

So I was thinking about the neighbor who got tangled up in this. Seeing as he was arrested, it seems he appeared to be willingly harboring RF. So it got me to thinking....is that where all the goods went between the Wal-Mart run and calling 911?

hmm good point wonder if his house was searched at the time.

Reminder:

October 24: TG and RF hearing
October 28: JR hearing

And a correction - Gabe Gaeta goes to court on the 31st, not the 28th.

Of course, all the dates are subject to change... ;)

Oh, and a little local interest:

Bullhead City participated in "Red Ribbon Week" which is a national drug prevention awareness campaign. I don't know how effective these types of campaigns are - remember The War on Drugs? - but I suppose it's a way for the community to get together and support each other. There was no mention of Bella but I bet she was on the minds of many of the 800 people who participated. I hope so anyway.

Extensive write up was posted a few hours ago, as court approaches for give of the "adults" who were living their lives during Bella's last days on this earth:

Drug suspects expected in court today - Mohave Daily News: News

(snip)

The arrests stem from a search warrant executed on Oct. 15 for both sides of the duplex on Lakeside Drive. Grogan, Folster and Freddie Nicholson, Folster’s mother, resided in the north residence, and Jaime Medrano lived on the south side. This is the same home from which Grogan-Cannella was reported missing Sept. 2.

Her partially clothed body was found in a shallow grave about half a mile from there the next afternoon.

(snip)
It has not been determined if prosecutors will seek the death penalty.

Prosecutors have 60 days to decided whether to seek the death penalty. That time frame began with Rector’s arraignment Sept. 19.

Thanks! The link has lots of info.

According to court documents, items seized from the property included glass and foil pipes, a plastic straw and a baggie — all with residue — a scale and a syringe. Many of the drug-related items were in plain sight, police records show.
Shells for a .22-caliber weapon and shell casings were located, as well, but no weapons were found. A spent shell was located beneath one of the beds in the home.

Plus, LE found the glass meth pipe in grandma's room on Sept. 4 during the first search when Bella went missing. Then they started getting reports about drug activity - from Rector? people in the community? - and used an informant to make several drug buys from TG and RF. LE also had information about weapons in the house, including a SKS semi-automatic rifle, but none were found in the search.

And the neighbor eventually admitted to having a "drug relationship" with them. Niki Fox reported that she told Ralphy not to give up to police without a fight!

Court is at 9 am.

Oh, and:

Paperwork completed by Grogan during the booking process indicates she is attempting to regain custody of her other daughter from Child Protective Services, and that she is pregnant.

"Tania Grogan, mother of 8-year-old Isabella Grogan-Cannella, is tentatively set to appear in Justice Court today at 9 a.m.
Ralph Folster, Grogan’s husband of three months and stepfather of the murdered child, also is scheduled to appear, as are Folster’s mother, girlfriend and next-door neighbor.
"Paperwork completed by Grogan during the booking process indicates she is attempting to regain custody of her other daughter from Child Protective Services, and that she is pregnant."

I haven't itemized all of the charges (felonies)--does she really think she should have custody of her daughter?

what a mess:
3 months married
murdered child
husband charged
Mother in law charged
husband's girlfriend charged
Neighbor who admits to drug relationship charged
pregnant

Today's hearings: Preliminary hearings are scheduled for TG, RF, FN, NF and the neighbor. NF and the neighbor are also scheduled for pre-trial hearings.

http://www.mohavecourts.com/Calendar/bhcjustice.pdf

After the preliminary hearing and before a criminal case goes to trial, the prosecutor and the defense team usually appear before a criminal court judge and make pre-trial motions -- arguments that certain evidence should be kept out of the trial, that certain persons must or cannot testify, or that the case should be dismissed altogether.

Hearing starts in one hour.

I wonder how the investigation into possible child endagerment charges is going?

Like Ontario Mom said, TG (and other drug-using moms) probably love their kids but aren't able to make the connection between a druggie lifestyle and the danger to children. Since they can't, it's up to the state to make the connection for them. They all need to learn that one of the consequences of choosing to use drugs is that they can lose their kids.

Addicts always love their drug of choice more.....it's just hard for them to admit it.
It would seem to me that the child endangerment charges should be a slam dunk vs TG with her on the losing end.
This outcome may even apply ''going forward'' with her yet to be born child removed from her custody as soon as possible after he/she is born given her current drug use/involvement. All moo

Oh my - I just realized the implication! I really, really hope Tania has the presence of mind to lay off the drugs while pregnant!

Hearing starts in a half hour...

The ONLY way I believe she could stay off drugs is if she remains in jail -- that may not be a bad thing everything considered. She has very poor prospects from what we have seen --

I can't find any coverage of the hearing. :( Hopefully we'll see reports on the Mohave Daily News site or local TV later today. No tweets either. Wah!
