I hadn't seen this before. Below is the police interview of Melani the day after the shooting. I'd say it's very damning to her because she lies throughout it, and exhibits lots of consciousness of guilt.
In the interview, she at first started talking about her marriage problems, it sounds like LE didn't tell her exactly why they wanted to talk to her, they only told her of the shooting later in the interview, and then she acted like she didn't know about it.
She says Brandon had called her several times the night before but she never mentioned the calls earlier in the day he made while with Pillar. She wanted to pretend she's only been ignoring calls since last night. This could be Pillar questioning her so he would know she's lying here.
When asked does she have any friends or family to talk to for support, she says her grandma Janis and some friends. She didn't mention Lori, the closest person to her.
She also spends a lot of time saying that Brandon is gay, has lots of gay corn, and that he has shady business dealings.
LE asked her if she talked to or texted anybody the day before and again all she mentions is her grandmother. But as we just found out, she had a 35 minutes call with Lori while the shooting occurred. She didn't mention it.
When they do talk about the shooting, and LE asks who would want to hurt Brandon, she brings up some "bad business" with an uncle, meaning Charles. And then she does finally mention Lori and tells the story of the Charles shooting, giving Lori's version about the baseball bat.
She said there were some concerns prior because Brandon had been talking to Charles and that Charles had been cheating on Lori for quite a while. Everything she says sounds like it's coming out of Lori's mouth. She said that when Brandon found out about Charles's death, that he tried to "turn it around" and say Alex was crazy and that he murdered Charles (aka the truth), and that he tried to drive a wedge between her and her aunt. Melani is Lori's talking puppet.
She does admit Lori has been sweet and supportive to her. But again distances herself, and says that Lori has been doing her own thing and Melani has been doing their own thing. Pants on fire lie. She had just flown to Rexburg the weekend before the shooting.
She brings up the life insurance, and how she did not get any money from Charles's life insurance because he gave it to somebody else, to "who knows who because they don't let you know because of privacy laws." She's complaining about where Charles's money went to. What business is that of hers? Lori's puppet.
She is asked where Lori is living now and says she doesn’t know, even though she had just flown to Rexburg.
She talks about how Brandon was sinisterly in cahoots with Adam and Zack and Charles. And when asked again who would want to kill Brandon, she brings up Adam, because he has a gun she says. Because he has a gun???
When asked why would Adam want to hurt Brandon, she says the only thing she could think of is the life insurance because nobody knows where it went to, because maybe he has it I guess she means. She was as obsessed as Lori with finding out where that money went.
I would love to see a trial where this is played.
