Baez Wants Casey Present at Depositions of Jail Inmates and Personnel

I think her vanity gets the best of her. She doesn't have access to nice hair care products, a blow dryer/styling brush, decent makeup, etc. The clothes, need I say more, definitely not something she would wear after seeing pictures of her before she went to jail.

She strutted into Jose's office in short shorts and a tight top carrying a binder labeled 'Media Reports' or something like that. Kind of gives you an idea of where her priorities were at the time. She couldn't even wear a missing Caylee T-shirt without tying it in a knot to show off her skin tight jeans. Even one of the reporters asked why she was strutting around like that. It was so over the top and inappropriate considering the circumstances.

I believe it's as simple as that, she doesn't want to be seen (especially on camera) not looking her best. It's probably difficult to strut with the leg shackles too.

If she had all of the above and a nice hair cut, I think she'd be posing for the camera every chance she got.

IMO - unless they hold the depos at the jail, there is no chance in hades she will be granted "special inmate status" and allowed to go on a field trip.

You know, I'm still not getting why CM and JB have to fly to NY when it would be far cheaper for Ms. Baden to fly south, unless they are meeting with someone else who is unable to fly down to Florida at the moment.

I do believe they will also do a depo with TonyL...IIRC, he did say this at the last status hearing and he now lives in NY..JMHO

I'd love to look him up (TonyL)...just for the heck of it...LMAO

for some reason this just really irked me....they don't mind traveling all the way to NY to visit with LKB & possibly do the depo (yet again) on TonE but moan and groan about going to Miami for Amy??????????? Shameful on both their parts...they should be eating and sleeping this case --- after all they are trying to "save their clients life"--isn't that the bs they feed on every arguement????? :banghead::furious:

I agree - the Defense is probably going to do a depo with Tony in NY, where he lives now. If they can squeeze in Tony's depo ... then the JAC pays for their expenses on their trip to NY, right? But, Judge P. wants them to use the Skype or Cisco system for out of state witness depositions.
But, the State whispered that JB is trying to do a depo with Tony "past the deadline" (of October 31, 2010). JB said he was flying to NY "next week" - first week of October.

JB said at the Status Hearing on Monday that he has a date set aside for Tony's depo, and will talk to his attorney to see if that date is mutually acceptable, if not, then there are other days. The audio of the Hearing was not working at the very beginning of the Hearing, so we cannot hear what DAY JB said was for Tony's depo??? Maybe somebody could email Kathi B. and ask her if she heard the day?

The Defense has not filed an official "Notice of Taking Deposition" on Tony ... unless it is the "Amended Notice" they just filed yesterday?
They previously had Tony set for depo on August 13, 2010 - they obviously have to "amend" that date.

If you are referring to Baez's request to have Casey present during the depos of the jail personnel, then that IS within the Court's jurisdiction. HHJP can rule on that and everyone will have to adhere to his ruling. I do not believe he is going to grant that request. There are many other ways Casey could reconcile the names & faces other than attending the depos. :innocent:

As far as Baez suggesting the depos be conducted at the jail - I actually can understand that. I don't think the location is a big deal. However, he might have been more apt to suggest that since he is filing a motion to have Casey present 'cause she ain't leaving the jail to go to another location to attend a freakin' depo where she isn't needed in the first place. IMO

In my opinion, the only reason Baez is making this request is the intimidation factor. Casey has probably developed some relationships with the guards and other personnel. They would likely be less candid in her presence and their testimony may (unintentionally) lean more favorably to the defense. heh, Baez doesn't have much....I guess he figures it is worth a shot.

I didn't think so at first...but after he was told repeatedly in court by the Judge about the boundaries of the Judicial and Executive Branches..IMO Baez is just pushing to see if it will work one day.

Kinda like ALyon pushing the boundaries between the judicial and legislative branches....unfortunately (and unconstitutionally), these requests are often successful throughout our country these days...Thank goodness Judge Strickland was not a caveman, he had no interest in reinventing the wheel....

I do not have a problem with Casey being shown photos of the guards to identify who is who or even briefly being on Skype to identify them in the very very beginning of their interviews, other than that she will get exactly what any other defendant in that county gets, nothing more, nothing less. This judge is not about limiting her rights to a fair trial, indeed he is ALL about protecting the record and guarding against appeal issues. Mr. Baez can ask for anything he likes. The record is replete with resounding answers to the vast majority of his fanciful requests.

Listening to this staff member, I sure wish she had not said to the interviewer, Jose told Casey what he thought and what had happened, it is a clear implication she was indeed able to hear what they were saying .....which is not good. It reminds me of the Andrea arguments to Judge Strickland that indeed she often heard the intercom switch turn on and off and on and off again during her attorney client visits. I do not imagine jail personnel are well trained in answer a yes or no question with only yes or no and do not expand on your answers. That is a whole other chapter. Back to the topic, do not worry about this, there is a remedy for all things Baez and his name is Judge Belvin Perry. He's got this!!!!!

What is interesting to me is on the day she was arrested for MURDER, clearly that meant the state believed the her child was no longer alive. She was effectively singing Zippidy Do Da to the detectives, but on the day they found the skeleton is when she freaks the hell out. I hope the jury gets the opportunity to compare and contrast the two. I am all for Casey having the opportunity to identify the jail guards. It wont take away from what they reported if she mistook Kim for Pam.

This traveling to NY, when LBK could fly down to FL at half the cost is ridiculous - whatever it is, I'm sure JB has not shared his real reason for traveling out of FL - we know ICA never left the state, never even left Orange County...

Maybe we will hear about an up coming visit with Geraldo or GMA - which will likely mean their travel fees and accommodations will be covered by the highest bidder.

On the other hand we have TonE living in NY - if they depo him at his convenience, maybe we'll next be hearing about meeting up with Amy at one of the tourist stops in the Caribbean, for her convenience of course...

Then there is also the apt. building - alive Caylee is supposed to be staying in, in Queens or something - too many possibilities!

Thanks for the update! I assume this came out of today's status hearing? I didn't get to see it. I wonder if it's common practice for inmates to be present at the depos? It doesn't seem right.

I think your theory might be spot on, about why KC wants them there, and about JB being worried.

Gotta catch up on this thread, but my hinky meter went through the roof. IMHO JB wants ICA there as a threat of some sort. Knowing she's in the room perhaps the inmate(s) won't be as forthcoming. I have no idea what goes on behind bars, so that's just my opinion.

If this is the case, why wasn't ICA present at all depos?

I'm in shock too. He was a bumbling IDIOT! I'm fearful the case could be dismissed due to his ignorance. I was embarrased for him. What more would he have to do to get thrown off the case? I can't believe it hasn't happened already. I know that ICA can choose her own Attorney, but this is ridiculous. Baez was on JVM and quickly dismissed talking about ICA and went on to discuss some Prostitute he's defending. Nothing like spreading himself a little thin. Although maybe the Prostitute is a paying customer and he needs the money. Baez was so unorganized during the hearing it wasn't even funny. I'm sure it took all JP could do to not blow a gasket.

BBM. Once convicted, the first filing will be for inadequate counsel I absolutely believe this will be the case. One can only wonder, is JB doing all of this on purpose in hope for a dismissal?

Defense attorneys finally got the chance to grill a former Orange County corrections officer under oath.

Sylvia Hernandez was fired after she was accused of passing letters back and forth between Casey and another jail inmate.

Besides her lawyers, Casey Anthony probably had more interaction with Hernandez than anyone else.
