"She ended up becoming an editor for Studs Terkel, as well. Of course he had his radio show at WFMT, and he had an assistant there, Sydney Lewis. But he had me editing his published interviews, and hed often invite me along when he was going to see someone interesting. One day, Terkel off-handedly said that he thought she should consider the unusual University of Chicago PhD program that goes by the name Committee on Social Thought. In particular, Terkel said she should study with Saul Bellow. She demurred, saying that it sounded intimidating. Just go talk to him, Terkel said. Dutifully, she went. When Bellow appeared, he asked her why she was there. She said it was because Terkel had sent her. Well, then, Bellow said, if he sent you, I guess we should take you on. Thus began ten years of study with Bellow. It was an extraordinary time. We studied the books Bellow wanted to study, which included authors Joyce, Fitzgerald, Dickens, and Balzac. Of course I also read all of his own books, but we never discussed them. In Hyde Park she Photograph by Robert McCamant met and married the musician James Mack.
He had a big house in Oak Park where hed lived with his previous wife, so it just seemed sensible to move there. Among a variety of musical activities, Mack was director of music at Rockefeller Chapel at the U of C. At age 43, she had her daughter."

He seems like a nice kid. What happened?!
?? I must have missed something..........
Heather Mack was laughing and joking as she was led from one room to another the police lockup on Thursday, smiling and saying "Britney Spears" at one point, and later, "Oh my God" as she laughed, apparently at the media attention.

On Tuesday morning - the day of the death - police say the group had publicly argued over who would pay the hotel bill. Mrs Mack was heard saying she had paid for Mr Schaeffer’s flights to Bali, so the couple should pay for the hotel.

See, this is what I mean about me being curious.
On his fb, he put her name with <333 after it.
According to the Urban Dictionary, it could mean half evil, or half the anti-Christ, a semi-Christ,
or I love you. Which is it?
Who paid for his plane ticket to Bali? He knew he was going and getting his passport on August 6th.
I wish he didn't show up. I get the feeling the daughter dragged him into a bad situation pitting him against her Mother.
Mrs Mack paid for his plane ticket (see my post just above yours) :seeya:
They were booked to leave on Thursday, but asked to check out immediately ....
..... the couple then told reception staff that they would not pay the bill because Heather’s mother would pay when she checked out later. They also demanded that hotel staff open a safety deposit box at reception and give them the contents.
The staff refused both requests. Mr Djoko said Mrs Mack had left clear instructions that only she should be able to open the safe, which staff believed contained her jewellery.
They went directly to Ngurah Rai airport and the immigration counter, saying they had lost their passports and needed new ones to fly out. Mr Djoko speculated that their passports were also locked inside the safety deposit box at the hotel. But immigration staff told them they would need to report the loss to the US consulate.
"They will be questioned for deliberately causing someones death which, in Bali, carries a 15-year sentence.
They do not yet have a murder weapon, but suspect that broken glass in Mrs Macks room, number 616, suggests it was a heavy glass object.
.... Mr Djoko said hotel gardeners also found three suitcases full of the familys belongings hidden in the garden. When they opened the suitcases they found a number of blood-soaked hotel towels that had apparently been used to try to clean up the blood in the room."
